Nine.

Ramon sat on a chair beside the bed where the unconscious melanin beauty laid. She must not be older that her teens he presumed as he watched her clutch at the sheets while her breathing increased.

She had been unconscious for four days now and if not for her rapid breathing and small words every now and then, he would have thought get dead.

The doctor which he has immediately called after placing her on the couch on the living room, arrived after the storm had quietened down, told him she was in a kind of state due to shock but other than that she was alive but there was a catch.

If she didn't wake up any time soon, she was liable to die of hunger. He stood from where he sat and made his way to the kitchen.

After preparing the soup in a can he has prepared, he took the soup in a bowl on a tray to her room.

After placing the soup on the bedside table, he went to the door to check if Lily was back from her morning walk. He couldn't join her today because he couldn't risk leaving the unknown guest alone.

Just as he was about turning to go back inside, he saw Lily. She had something in her mouth. A small backpack. She dropped it at his feet before walking inside.

He picked it up and walked inside. After giving Lily a snack for her services, he opened the bag carefully. An empty water bottle, some empty wraps for granola bars and two unopened bars were the contents of the bag.

He turned the bag over, shaking the bag vigorously. Nothing else was in the bag but amongst the wraps of granola bars, he noticed a small name tag depicting one name ... Kamara.

I could hear voices or a voice. I didn't know. It sounded like one person but the echo made it impossible for me to tell where the voice was coming from. I could hear a dog growl but I didn't know where it came from.

The voice was gradually narrowing down to become one man's voice. I tried to open my eyes but I couldn't.

Just when I thought the voice would become clear, the noise only got worse.

I was wondering where my bed was because the surface which I laid upon was not very comfortable.

The man was still talking but I didn't know where it was coming from but I knew it was a man talking. I attempted opening my eyes once more but failed.

The noise subsided momentarily but there was still a faint noise in the background. Then I heard my name.

The unknown man said my name once more and I responded by trying to move my hands and I succeeded but I still didn't know where I was.

I frowned as I heard the dog bark louder.

"Kamara" I managed to make out my name this time.

I felt something wet on my cheeks which made me open eyes no matter how much pain it caused.

"Lily, no" the man I assumed I had heard call my name earlier carried the huge dog away from me.

"Are you okay?" He asked as I took in his appearance.

He was wearing a sweatshirt and faded denim jeans. His blonde hair was almost white. When I finally took in the situation, I knew that it was either this man was up to no good or he actually wanted to help me seeing my disheveled state.

"Kamara, can you hear me?", he asked softly while making no attempt to move closer which I was grateful for.

" how do you know my name?" I answered with a question of my own while still holding onto the sheets for dear life and pushing myself against the headboard.

The man didn't answer me. He stood, and that was when I noticed he was very tall. Almost like a giant but I won't let that sway me.

He walked out of the room. I took this opportunity to examine my surroundings. The floor was made of hardwood which I could tell from the sound I heard whenever the man took a step.

The walls were a soft cream color while the room was blessed with paintings by famous artists I was sure.

Everything in this room screamed money. Glad to know he can afford all the luxury. The man came back inside with something in his large hands.

"Lily found this and I'm positive it's yours?" It came out like a question.

"What on earth were you doing out there?" He asked as he handed my now ragged, dirty and battered backpack.

I didn't bother opening it as I still stared at the stranger which must make me look like a weirdo but I didn't care.

After a while, he finally accepted that he couldn't get me to answer and introduced himself.

"Call me Ramon" he said while standing to leave.

"Ramon" I said slowly while testing the name on my tongue.

"Yes" he answered in confirmation.

"Who changed me?" the question had been in the back of my mind for a while now after I discovered I was no longer in my faded ripped jeans and oversized dirty tee shirt but in a big sweater and oversized seat pants.

He hesitated before giving me an answer

"I did" he said looking away. I didn't even know how to say but quickly made up my mind before responding.

"Thank you" I said quietly.

"Is there anything you would like to eat or drink?"

"Water" I responded without hesitation.

He left the room without making much noise which made me wonder how a man of his build could move with so much stealth.

He came back into the room after a while and handed me a glass of water which I accepted and downed in one go. Wow. I didn't even realize how thirsty I was until I was done.

"Thank you Ramon" I said while handing him the cup. He took it and placed it on the bedside table.

"Do you know anyone you would like to call?" Ramon asked as he remained standing.

I couldn't see his eyes clearly for the lighting in the room was low. The only source of light was the lamp by the bed which emitted a faint glow enough for me to only see Ramon but not too bright.

"Yes"

He stood up wordlessly and left the room again. A big dog with brown fur came running into the room and hopped in the bed with me.

It gave me doggy kisses while I scratched it's back making it lie on it's back asking to be scratched there. 'Spoilt dog' I thought as I scratched it's stomach.

"Sorry Lily had always been a little bit spoilt, that was partly my fault though" Ramon came back with a small cell phone in his hands.

"No, it's okay, I like her" I replied with a small smile as I stopped my previous scratching making Lily whine in disagreement.

Ramon only shaked his head while trying to reprimand her but we both knew she was already a lost cause.

After handing me the small cell phone, Ramon quietly left the room once more leaving Lily behind where she sat on front of me placing her head on my laps.

My hand started shaking as I dialed my father's number.

"Hello"

"Kamara?" I missed his voice but it was now laced with worry and concern and possibly fear.

"Yes dad it's me"

"Oh bun, where are you?"
"Hope you're okay"
"Where did you run off t-"

"Dad I'm fine. I just need you to listen closely while I tell you my location" I said calmly surprising myself as I told him the cabin's address.

"Hold on tight bun" he said "we'll be there okay?"

"Okay dad" I replied while stroking Lily's fur.

"Lily, looks like I'm going for a while but I promise I'll come visit you. Thank you for finding me" I was sure she didn't understand a word of what I said but her ears perked up at the mention of her name.
