5. Reunion
Adrien was back in Paris. In fact, everyone was back in Paris. She didn't realize it, but the years had spun by in a blur and now their high school reunion was upon them. She had completely forgotten about it until Chloé brought it up a few days ago. It was still a good week away, but most people had shown up early just in case.
Everyone had stayed in contact for the first couple years, but their calls and messages had slowly dwindled until they came to a stop. Of course, Alya still made time to call her sometime during her busy routine. She wondered how everyone else was doing. Marinette knew she would see them all next week, but it was still nice to imagine everything her old classmates had gotten up to the past decade.
A decade.
It was ridiculous how fast ten years had flown by. Somehow, Hawkmoth had stayed silent during that entire period. She didn't know why. Maybe their graduation year just dulled his motivation. She was thankful, but it was still a pain to constantly be on watch for any movement. She never knew when he'd spring back with a vengeance even greater than before. Hell, he was probably just scheming the entire time, waiting for Chat to appear again.
Chat, yet another person she has lost contact with. She had absolutely no idea where he was. He could've been dead for all she knew. Of course, there was that feeling in the back of her mind that told her it was a ridiculous thought. There was no way he was dead. Still, she couldn't help but wonder...
It was startling when someone dropped down beside her later that night. She was sitting on top of the Notre Dame when the figure appeared, and she was so surprised that she nearly fell off. Luckily, the mysterious person caught her before she could actually fall. Cursing, she balanced herself out before turning to whoever scared her with a scowl on her face. However, it faded away once she saw who was standing there.
"Chat..." she said softly. He was back, too, it seemed. She didn't know why she was so surprised, he was the only one who could've gotten to her. He was rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly, a small grin on his face.
"Long time no see, Ladybug. Sorry for scaring you. Didn't think you'd fall." He let his arm drop down beside him as he sat down next to her.
She sighed, rolling her eyes at him. "It's fine. My fault I let myself get distracted."
He hummed, lying down and crossing his arms behind his head. "Really? I guess Hawkmoth hasn't been on the move as of late, huh?"
"Nope." She shook her head. "He hasn't made one attack since you left. I'm fairly certain he was just waiting for you to show up again, though."
"Well, I guess that means I shouldn't show my face in public until we know for certain, eh?"
"Yeah... how long are you staying, though?"
Chat sat up at that, crossing his legs and staring down at his hands. He sat in silence for a few more minutes until he looked up and over the lit up City of Paris and shrugged. "I'm... not really sure. Could be a few days to a few months. Maybe a year, I don't really know."
"Huh..." she crossed one leg over the other and leaned forwards so she could get a better look at his face. "Then you should probably stay out of sight for a few months at least. Just until my life gets a little less hectic and I can actually afford to be fighting akumas."
He huffed a small laugh, giving her an amused glance as he poked her cheek. "That bad, huh? Or have you just gotten too comfortable with doing nothing except patrol that you've forgotten everything from ten years ago?"
"Shut up." She swatted his hand away and scoffed at the absurd thought. "No, I'm just working two jobs at the moment, and finishing up my final year of school so it's a little overwhelming. You ever run around in heels for ten hours straight? It's not fun, that's for sure."
He gave a low whistle, elbowing her in the ribs. "Geez, I feel bad for your feet."
Scowling, she jabbed him right back. "Me too."
He snorted, laying back down and just staring up at the night sky. Sighing, she laid down beside him and traced the stars with her eyes. She never really looked at them before. They were pretty. It was nice. Sitting on top of the Notre Dame with Chat was nice. This was... nice.
