Lean In

"Of course you're still the team captain. You got your grades up just like Coach told you to, right?" Stiles said as he, Scott, and Will walked towards the lacrosse field; Will and Stiles on either side of Scott as he panicked about being team captain.

"Yeah, but he never told me I was back on the team. He just told me to show up at tryouts today." Scott said and Will sighed, shaking his head slightly. "We got bigger things to deal with anyway. Did you tell Argent yet?"

Scott winced slightly, turning to Will. "I texted him but he didn't get back to me." Stiles' jaw dropped at Scott's words, rubbing his eyes before looking at Scott with a 'really?' look. "You told him his sister came back from the dead over a text?"

"I didn't have the money to call France. You could've done it." Scott yelled defensively, turning to Will at his last sentence, making the Saticoy straighten up at the blame being put on him. "What?" Will yelled and Stiles moved to the other side of Scott to put a hand to Will's chest, pushing him back slightly as he pointed at Scott. "Don't blame Will. Plus, you think you got money problems? Try paying for an MRI and a visit to Eichen House."

Will sighed at Stiles' words, turning to him with a saddened expression. "Another notice?" Stiles sighed, turning to Will and nodding. "Yeah, this one said, 'Final.' Now, what the hell are we even doing here anyway? We got like a 117 million problems and worrying about our status on the lacrosse team is not one of them."

Scott sighed, turning to the field, his eyes instantly going wide. "It is now." He whispered. Will and Stiles turned to the field to see what Scott was walking about, their eyes falling on a boy in the goal, catching almost every ball.

"Who the hell is that?" Will whisper yelled as the boy took off his helmet, revealing a freshman the three had never seen before.

"Nice, Liam. You might just be our first ever freshman captain." A voice yelled from the field, making their eyes go wide. Stiles gulped, nodding his head. "Okay, maybe we should just practice a little bit."

Scott and Will instantly nodded. "You're right." Scott whispered. "Go. Go. Go!" Will whisper yelled, pushing Stiles and Scott towards the field to practise.

...

After practicing for about half an hour, everyone on the field headed back to the locker rooms to get cleaned up before class started. Once they were done, Will, Scott and Stiles circled Liam who still stood at his own locker. "Hey, Liam. You want to explain what that was out there?" Stiles asked from beside Will as Scott stood on the other side of Liam.

"What do you mean?" The boy asked and Stiles' nose scrunched slightly. "That little display. Your little circus act." Liam squinted, looking at Stiles confused. "What circus act?"

Will rolled his eyes, leaning it o the lockers beside him. "You caught every shot." Liam turned to Will, more confused then before. "I was in goal. Aren't you the teams goalie? You know what your job is, right?"

"Yeah, but nothing, not a single shot got past you." Scott said as Will leaned towards Stiles slightly. "I'm not liking this kids attitude too much." He whispered, making Stiles snicker slightly before turning back to Liam. "You're a freshman, right?"

Liams lips pursed slightly as he nodded. "Yeah."

"But you weren't here last semester." Stiles asked and Liam shrugged. "I transferred from Devenford Prep." Will looked passed Liam to Scott who was shaking his head slightly, making Will turn back to Liam to get more questions out of him. "You transferred?"

Liam turned to Will, nodding. "Yeah." Once he answered the question, Will quickly looked at Scott who was shaking his head. "No, you got kicked out, didn't you?" Liam looked at Scott in shock before he let out a panicked laugh, shaking his head. "All right. Look! Kicked out or transferred, what do you guys care? I came here to play lacrosse. The team could use a few good players, right?"

"No, we don't need any more good players." Stiles said and Will winced slightly, shrugging. "Actually, we could sort of use a couple." Will said, his voice high pitched in a nervous tone.

Stiles turned to Will, sending him a glare that Will just defensively shrugged at. "What? Look, I mean this in the nicest way... but you kinda suck." Stiles glared at Will for a few more seconds before whipping his head back towards Liam.

"Okay, how'd you get this good?" Stiles asked, only confusing Liam more, making him continue. "Have you always been this good? Or did it suddenly happen just once over night? Have you ever been out in the middle of the woods during the night of a full-" "Stiles." Will warned, quickly shutting the boy up.

"Look, I learned from my stepfather, all right? He made team captain when he was a sophomore. Like you." Liam said to Scott before turning to Stiles with a smirk on his face, throwing his backpack over his shoulder. "And yeah... I guess I'm just that good." Liam snarked, walking away from the three.

"He wasn't lying that time." Scott said with a smirk, making Stiles roll his eyes and Will snicker.

...

"An axe murderer?" Will asked as he and Stiles walked out of History class and towards their next class. Stiles pulled his lips into a line, shaking his head. "A family murdering axe murderer."

"I already heard about it." Will shrugged out, making Stiles looked at him in shock, his mouth opening and closing. "Wait. What? You did? How?"

"My mom called me. She knew we'd see it on the news." Will said and Stiles smiled, nodding his head. "Perfect. Let's go." Stiles wrapped an arm around Will's shoulder, going to pull him out of the school but Will kept his feet planted, making Stiles bounce back into him. "Whoa, whoa. We've got Econ in five minutes." Will said.

Stiles rolled his eyes, facing Will completely as he put a hand on each of Will's shoulders. "All right. Did you forget the part about the family murdering axe murderer?"

Will nodded before he raised his eyebrows sarcastically. "Did you forget that your dad's the sheriff and mines a deputy? They want us to stay out of it." Will said, nodding his head, making Stiles scoff. "Are you guys kidding me? There's a family murdering axe murderer and we're not going to do anything about it?"

Will frowned slightly pointing at the classroom just a few doors down. "But... but Econ." Stiles sighed, removing his hands from Will's shoulders to hold his temples, his eyes shutting slightly in annoyance. "So you just want to stay here, school, go to class. Never heard anything so irresponsible in my life. You know what, fine. I'll just see you at tryouts." He grumbled, turning and walking away from Will without a goodbye.

The boy frowned slightly before the bell rang into the hall. Will looked up at the bell when an arm linked with his, tugging him down the hall. "Come on. We're gonna be late." Kira yelled over the chattering kids around them, pulling Will to class.

...

"Terrible."

"Horrifying."

"Pathetic."

"Unbelievably pathetic."

Coach yelled at every person trying out as they ran passed him. Will being one of the first ones done, was watching Stiles barely make his way towards the coach as he screamed at the team.

"I can go and call up Paris. Get Lahey and Steph out her and have them do circles around you guys! And Steph can't even run." Coach yelled before looking down at his stopwatch, sighing. "Is that everyone?"

Stiles finally made it to the finish line, barely keeping himself up as Coach rolled his eyes. "Yep, that's everyone."

Will watched as Stiles started to stand up straight before he grew dizzy, heading straight for the ground. Will instantly ran towards him, catching him under his arms. "I got ya." He whispered, making Stiles let out a relieved breath, resting his head back into Will's chest. "Who came in first?"

Will sighed, looking down at Liam doing nonstop push-ups. "Who do you think?" He asked as Scott walked towards them. Stiles looked at the freshman in shock, still tired from the running as he put more weight in Will. "He isn't human. What is he? Like a Were-Cheetah? Does it even exist? Is that a thing?"

Scott squinted at the kid, shaking his head before turning to Stiles. "I think he's just good." Stiles scoffed at Scott's theory before moving his head around to look up at Will. "I'm gonna puke, take me somewhere."

Will's eyes went wide at Stiles words, nodding his head as he dragged him off to the corner of the field. "Okay. Okay."

...

After everyone was down calming down after running, Coach made them get in a line, each one getting up and throwing a ball passed the goalie one by one. Will was the first to go, the ball passing the goalie and hitting the net.

Then was Stiles who threw the ball that landed into the goalie's stick.

Stiles childishly stomped to the back of the line where Will already was. The Saticoy boy gave Stiles a small pat on the back before Scott nudged both of them to see who was going next, making Will sigh.

"You know, maybe he's only good in goal. You know, just totally useless on the rest of the field." Will rambled as he, Scott and Stiles watched Liam walk forward, to shoot. He twirled the stick in his hand before launching the ball towards the goal. The ball whizzing passed the goalie and hitting the net.

The three boys frowned as the rest of the players cheered. Will sighed, watching as Liam high-fived everyone that he passed as he walked towards the back of the line. "Or maybe he's just perfect at everything." He mumbled as Stiles nodded angrily. "I hate this kid!"

"You don't have to hate him. The team needs new players." Scott said, sending the two boys reassuring smiles. Stiles raised his brows as if to say, 'oh really?' as he turned to Scott. "What about a new team captain?"

Scott gave Stiles a warning glare before he walked towards the pile of lacrosse sticks. He picked his up and stared at the goal. Scott let out a small breath before throwing the ball, totally missing the net.

Will let out a small groan of embarrassment for his friend as the whole group laughed. "Nice, McCall." A freshman, Garrett yelled, annoying Stiles. "Hey, Garrett... Shut up!" Stiles said, a fake laugh escaping his lips, making Garrett's smirk drop. Stiles rolled his eyes before noticing Scott coming towards them.

"Isn't the captain supposed to be one of the best players on the team? Or good?" Stiles asked as Scott walked over. Scott rolled his eyes, sighing slightly as he got in line behind Will. "I'm having a really off day." Will turned around in line to Scott, raising his brows sarcastically as he used his thumb to point at the field. "You call that an off day?"

"You were dying out there! I feel actual physical pain watching you." Stiles said, making Scott roll his eyes, turning to Stiles. "I didn't see you make any shots." Will turned to Stiles with furrowed brows, shaking his head as he turned to Scott, pointing at Stiles. "Yeah, but he sucks. Scott. You're an Alpha." Will said casually, making Stiles turn to him with a look of betrayal.

Will, feeling Stiles' eyes on him, turned to him and shrugged. "What? You know I'm right."

"Not on the field. I'm a human on the field." Scott defended, going back to the main conversation. Stiles continued to glare Will before he sighed in defeat, turning to Scott. "Well, human you is kind of sucking at the moment. So do you think there is any way you can use just like a little tiny bit of wolf power?"

"It's cheating." Scott said, making Will snicker. "So?" Stiles pointed at Will in agreement, making Scott tilt his head at them. Stiles rolled his eyes, sighing at the look on Scott's face. "It's just I hate seeing this little freshman come in and steal all your glory after you worked your tushie off. I hate it." Stiles said and Will's face scrunched at Stiles' words.

"He's not going to steal all the glory." Scott reassured as Will turned to Stiles with a confused look. "Tushie?" He whispered. Stiles slowly turned to Will, opening his mouth to say something before Coach blew his whistle, telling the next kid to go.

As more and more kids started to go, Will grew hotter and hotter in the sun, making him let out a tired breath.

"God, it's getting hot out here." Will mumbled under his breath, grabbing the collar of his shirt and shaking it slightly so air could get inside.

Stiles looked behind him to Will and smirk, scoffing out a laugh slightly. "Take it off." He mumbled as he turned back to face the front, not thinking Will would hear him but he did. Will's eyes went wide before a small smile grew on his face as he peeled off his shirt. Stiles, hearing commotion behind him, turned around, his eyes instantly going wide when he ended up face to face with a shirtless Will.

"Oh my God. I was kidding." Stiles whispered. Will looked at Stiles, shrugging as Coach blew his whistle. "McCall and Stilinski, grab the long sticks. You're covering goal for two-on-ones." Stiles turned to Will, tilting his head before grabbing a stick, running towards the goal, Scott right behind him.

"Let's go! Line it up!" Coach yelled to Will and the rest of the teens trying out. Will grabbed a lacrosse stick from the ground since he was at the front of the line. He let out a exhale, twirling the stick in his hand slightly, waiting for Coach to blow his whistle to let him go.

When Coach did blow his whistle, Will ran toward the goal. Scott got in front of Stiles and the goal and Will cursed under his breath, not thinking he'd be able to pass him. He started running towards Scott's right side, making Scott go more to the right so when Will got close enough, he bolted to the left, faking right.

Will spun around Scott, barely missing his hit to knock him down. Will let out a shocked laugh, not believing he passed Scott. As he was cheering to himself, he didn't realize Stiles was in front of him until his body rammed into Stiles'. Stiles let out a loud 'woah!', both him and Will falling to the ground, Will falling on top of Stiles.

Will let out a small groan, opening his eyes to see him over Stiles. Will swallowed the lump in his throat, keeping his eyes in the boy under him. "Hey." Will said, his eyes wide as he pushed himself up slightly, both his hands on either side of Stiles head as the rest of him laid on top of Stiles.

Stiles gulped at Will. He looked down at Will's abs before looking back up into Will's eyes, nodding. "H-Hey." Stiles stuttered out.

The two boys didn't move after that, just staring at each other until the loud sound of Coach's whistle broke their contact. "Saticoy! Stilinksi! Either get a room or get the hell up!" Coach yelled. Will's eyes went wide, hearing small snickers from the line and he quickly got off of Stiles and stood up, clearing his throat.

Will looked down at Stiles who still lied on the ground, he stuck his arm out to help the Stilinski boy up. Stiles looked at Will's hand before looking up at Will, taking his hand. Will pulled Stiles up, a little harsher than either of them expected, making Stiles ram into Will.

Will quickly grabbed Stiles' waist to keep them both from falling again as a small chuckle left his lips. "Sorry." Stiles shook his head eagerly, backing up slightly from Will's touch to get back into position. "No problem." Will slowly nodded, watching as Stiles turned his back to him to walk away before walking to the back of the line.

Will watched from the line as boy after boy tried to get passed Scott and Stiles, none of them doing it, making Coach yell in happiness. "That's my boys! Those two are like sons to me. That one too!" Coach yelled, pointing at Will during his last sentence, making the boy smile.

"That's how it's done!" Stiles screamed, running towards Scott to chest bump him, only to fly backwards when his chest met Scott's. Will let out a small snicker as Stiles scrambled to get up with the help of Scott, acting as if nothing happened.

Coach blew his whistle again and Will leaned off to the side to see who was next, his face dropping at Liam stepping up. "Oh no.." Will mumbled as Liam grabbed his lacrosse stick. When Coach blew his whistle, Liam ran towards Scott and Stiles, passing both boys, making Will's jaw drop. As soon as Liam passed Stiles, he threw the ball. Will watched almost as if it were in slo-mo as the ball hit the net.

The team roared with cheers for the freshman. Will sighed, looking at Scott and Stiles as the Stilinski boy turned to him. Will shrugged at Stiles, making him roll his eyes, wiping the corners of his mouth.

"That was luck!" Malia yelled, shooting out of her seat on the bench beside Kira, making Will's eyes go wide. "Oh God." He whispered under his breath as Malia continued to yell. "Do-over!" Coach let out a dry laugh, turning to Malia. "Sweetheart, there's no do-overs. This is a practice."

"Ten bucks on Scott and Stiles." Malia yelled, making the man instantly point at her, nodding. "I'll take that action." He turned back to the line of teens and pointed at Liam. "Hey! Get back in there, Liam."

Liam looked at Stiles and Scott before shrugging, picking up his stick again and running. Will watched as the freshman passed Stiles and just as he was about to pass Scott, the alpha bent down, making Liam flip over his shoulder and fall onto the ground, a loud crack sounding through the air, making everyone freeze.

"Shit." Will whispered, running towards Scott, Stiles and Liam as Coach blew his whistle. "Don't move! Don't touch him!" Coach yelled, sticking his arms out, stopping the players from touching the boy as Liam shook his head. "I'm okay, Coach. I'm all right."

Scott and Stiles pushed passed the group, each grabbing one of Liams arms to throw around their shoulders and lift him up. Liam screamed in pain once he was standing before letting out a tired breath as he slumped. "I think it's my leg."

"I think we better get him to the nurse." Will said, looking down at Liams leg with wide eyes as Scott, Stiles and Coach nodded in agreement.

"Yeah. Yeah. Okay." Coach mumbled and the three boys started leading the freshman to the nurses office as Coach turned to the rest of the kids trying out. "Run around... Start running around the field!"

...

After taking Liam to the nurse, the nurse suggested taking the boy to the hospital much to Scott, Stiles and Will's dismay.

"Ok. Ok." Will muttered as he walked into the hospital, making sure he didn't run into his mom, he quickly grabbed a wheelchair from the supply closet and wheeled it over to Scott, Liam and Stiles so the freshman boy can sit down.

"Alright. Now warning, I might move it right before you sit down." Will said jokingly. Stiles and Scott looked at Will with wide eyes as Liam let out a small groan of pain, not wanting to get injured anymore. Will clenched his jaw, looking between the three awkwardly. "No time for jokes? Got it. Liam, how about you sit down."

"You're not gonna move it?" Liam snarled under his breath, making Will let out an awkward chuckle at the boys attitude.

"Uh... Hi, Mom. Sabrina." Scott suddenly said, making Will's head shoot up. He sent his mom an innocent wave that Sabrina ignored as she and Melissa walked towards the boys to find out what happened.

After being filled in, Sabrina sighed, standing behind Liams chair as she reassuringly rubbed his shoulders. "Don't worry, Liam. We'll take good care of you." She said to him before rolling him away, Melissa right behind them.

Will watched the three walk away until he couldn't see the anymore, he looked down at his watch and sighed at the time. "I got to get going. I need to study."

Stiles nodded before his eyes went wide and he turned to him. "I'll help you." Will nodded and Scott gestured out of the hospital. "You guys go. I want to check on him anyway."

The boys nodded, going to walk towards the exit before they both froze, remembering Scott's face filled with guilt and turned back around to him.

"Hey, I don't need to say that wasn't your fault, right?" Stiles said and Scott sighed, shaking his head. "I don't know." Stiles sighed, turning to Will to get ready for the pep talk before turning back to Scott. "Scott, if you had used any wolf power that kid wouldn't be limping, he'd be crawling, back to the other half of his body."

Scott looked down in disappointment, shaking his head again. "If I hadn't been so worried about being captain he wouldn't be hurt either." Will's brows furrowed, putting a hand on the boys shoulders. "It's okay to want something for yourself once in a while. Team captain, Alpha werewolf. You're still a teenager."

...

"Dammit!" Will, who was laying on his stomach on Stiles' bed, cursed under his breath as he opened the notebook that sat in front of him. Stiles, who was lying down next to him, turned to him with a worried look. "What?"

Will sighed, shaking his head as he flipped through the notebook pages. "I must've grabbed Malia's notebook. I mean look at this." Will whispered in shock, flipping through the red highlighted pages. Stiles looked down at the book, his eyes instantly going wide, scooting closer to Will to get a better look. "Woah. I mean... this whole page is practically covered."

Will sighed, shaking his head as he shrugged. "Yeah... I taught her that thing. Green is for the things she understands. Yellow, is for she's getting there, and... Red means she has no clue. Like your board. As you can see she is mostly using red. Which also means, I'll have to buy her more." Will mumbled, flipping through the book to find anything he could read over the badly, bled-through highlighted pages.

A small smile grew on Stiles face as he turned to the board across the room from them, his eyes trailing over the red strings pinned to the wall. Stiles sighed, turning back to Will. The Saticoy boys tongue was sticking out of the corner of his mouth in concentration as he flipped through the pages before he finally got to one he could read and let out a small laugh.

Will, seeing Stiles looking at him out of the corner of his eyes, turned his head to face the boy with a confused look, yet still smiling. "What?" Will asked, a small chuckle passing through his lips, making his breath fan Stiles' face from their close proximity.

Stiles felt a small tug in his stomach, a ringing in his ears and a small voice in his head telling him the noises and the feeling he felt in that moment would go away if he just leaned in.

So he did.

His eyes started to fall closed as his face got closer and closer to Will's.

Will's eyes went wide at Stiles leaning in but he stayed frozen, not believing what was in front of him. He slowly felt his eyes close when their noses brushed, he could practically feel Stiles' lips hovering over his, almost as if Stiles was waiting to decide what he should do.

After growing impatient with the wait, Will was just about to move forward to have their lips meet when Stiles' phone rang from his desk.

Stiles jumped away from Will at the noise as the other boy sat frozen in his spot, his eyes slowly opening when the bed shifted at Stiles getting up to check his phone. Will blinked for a few seconds, trying to think of what he had just gone through really happened before he looked down at his notebook.

After about a minute, Stiles got off the phone. He tossed the phone back and forth between his hands as he watched Will mindlessly flip through his cousins notebook, trying not to look up and make eye contact with Stiles out of the sheer thought of embarrassment that crossed his mind.

Stiles licked his lips nervously before clearing his throat, making Will slowly look up at him, barely making eye contact. Stiles felt the pull in his stomach again but he shook it off, pointing out of his bedroom door. "Scott needs us."
