Chapter Five: Interventions

"Do you think he'll ever realize who he is?" A woman with a small tiara perched on her head said.
"I think it's better if he didn't. If he doesn't know who he is, then they won't know who he is," A man with an illuminating crown on his head said.
Both the woman and man had bright golden hair. The woman having emerald green eyes that seemed to glow. The man had bright blue eyes and a large nose. He also had a bit of a beard and mustache.
"Are you sure we're doing the right thing?" The woman asked, her accent becoming thick.
"Yes. Geoff promised to take good care of him. And he'll be out of danger then. You have to trust me on this," The man told her.
The woman and man picked up the tiny child in the crib and the woman cradled him gently. The child was wrapped in an assortment of fine silk blankets. He had the showings of golden hair and bright emerald eyes. A rather large nose even began to show on the child's petite face.
But he wore a necklace. A necklace with a creepers face on it. Which didn't make much sense. Creepers were feared by everyone and even the bravest knights didn't dare mess with one.
"My poor son, if only you could stay, you could be the ruler of our noble kingdom. Alas, that is impossible, now that we are under attack. But you will live with a former king, and he will teach you everything you need to know to survive. We'll never forget you, our son. Take care," The man said before pressing his lips upon the child's forehead. The woman did the same, having tears stream down her face.
A man walked in, flanked by two guards. The crying woman handed him the child.
"Take good care of him. He already shows the signs of an incredible prince. Please, make sure he stays out of harms way," The woman begged the man. The man nodded solemnly before leaving with the small child wrapped protectively in his arms.

I awoke with a jolt. What a strange dream. If I didn't know any better I would've thought that I was the prince. Of course, that would never happen. Geoff used to always tell me the story of how I was born. He told me it was quite an interesting birth, one during a thunderstorm.
I shook the dream from my mind for now. I heard the door to my cell open and four knights and King Michael walked in.
"It's time for your execution," Michael breathed. Did I hear regret in his voice?
I just looked up and nodded. They unlocked my cell and let me walk out. They stood there, without grabbing me for a moment. I knew what they were doing. They were trying to get me to make a scene. To be dramatic and stuff. They always did that before executions because the villagers loved it. To he honest, I sort of did too. It was entertaining to watch the prisoners beg for mercy and act crazy in there final moments. As twisted as it sounds, it was quite a show.
But now that I was in those peoples place, I decided I would go out with dignity. I didn't want to be remembered with all the other psychopaths that were sentenced to execution. I wanted to remembered in my own unique way.
I stood there solemnly and when they realized I wasn't gonna do anything, they simply took my arms and led me out the door. I saw Michael give me a look of approval, even if it was faint.
We walked and walked and I realized each step brought me closer to death. My heart pounded and made me feel sick. This was it. I was about to die.
But even as I walked out to the stage, where I'd be executed, I couldn't help but remember my strange dream from last night.
The man and woman looked so much like me. And so familiar. And there accents sounded identical to mine. My dreams usually had meaning to them if they were that clear.
But as Michael lined his sword with my neck, another thought flashed through my mind.
What if Geoff actually did adopt me? What if those people were my actual parents? What if they were real and I was actually there son?
What if I was a prince?
As the first shot of the bow was heard, I immediately crouched down. Oh Ray, how he always comes in the nick of time.
The guards shielded Michael from more potential arrows and they stupidly released me. I quickly jumped off the stage and ran towards Ray and Geoff, who were both on horseback, waiting for me.
I jumped onto Geoff's horse and off we went, galloping faster than ever before. I held onto Geoff tightly as arrows shot after us, trying to kill us.
I heard the battle cry of Mogar and I instantly knew Michael was no longer Michael. He was now the tyrant that he had been forced to be by his father. I heard him scream for his knights to go after us, but we were long gone by now. They'd never find us.
Geoff wrapped a steady arm around me and kissed my head gently.
"Never do that again. I thought you were dead," Geoff scolded me.
"Shouldn't this be a weekly thing by now?" I joked. Geoff gave me a pointed look and I knew I should shut up.
When we arrived back at the house, Geoff and Ray quickly ushered me inside and looked me over. Once they were sure I was okay, they started blockading the doors and windows out of fear that Mogar and his troops would find us.
"Thank heaven you're okay," Geoff announced as he stumbled over to me and hugged me tightly. I smiled and hugged him back.
"Yep, I'm fine," I purred.
Suddenly, I felt my dream resurface and I had half a mind to bring it up. Geoff noticed something was wrong and he pulled back, looking at me.
"What's wrong?" Geoff asked me.
"I-I had a weird dream while I was locked up," I started. Geoff prompted me to go on.
"It was about these two people, a King and Queen. They were talking about protecting this baby from these things. You were in it, too. You took the baby," I told him.
Geoff eyes widened and a look of fear flashed in his eyes before he lowered his eyes from my view.
"Gavin, I wasn't supposed to tell you this until you were older but now seems to be a good time to tell you. I'm not your real father. Your parents were from another kingdom and they were the King and Queen. After you were born the kingdom was under attack and your parents gave you to me so I could protect you. They asked me to raise you as my own, so I did," Geoff told me. I felt my heart begin to pound.
"Are they... Alive?" I asked.
"I don't know. If they were I'd think they would come back for there son," Geoff told me.
I nodded slowly, understanding. I guess it made sense really. I looked nothing like Geoff. I didn't even have the accent he had. It also explains why I have no mother. I couldn't believe I didn't make that assumption sooner.
But that didn't hit me as hard as the fact that my dream was probably true. Which led me to my next question. What were the things they were trying to keep away from me?
"You okay?" Geoff asked slowly.
"What were they trying to protect me from?" I asked him.
"I think it's better if you didn't know," Geoff answered me.
"Why?" I asked, getting slightly angry. I had a right to know why I was separated from my birth parents.
"Because if you know... They know. And they'll find you," Geoff answered me.
I looked at him in confusion but he just shook his head and got up to begin making dinner. Ray smiled at me and began asking me questions. He acted so childish, asking what it was like and if people hurt me. I rolled my eyes and tried to make it as interesting as possible.
But as I was talking with Ray, I couldn't help but think of my parents. Call me crazy, but I had a feeling they were still alive. I could feel it in my stomach. But, if they were still alive, why didn't they bother to come back for me?
As I laid down for bed that night, I had a million thoughts race through my mind. Mostly about my parents.
But a couple made me stop and think for a moment.
King Michael...
Why do I feel so ashamed about escaping? It was either I left and survived, or I stayed and died. But the look Michael gave me before he was to kill me... It made me wonder if he thought of me differently. The idea made me giddy with excitement.
As I tried to escape these thoughts, I was instantly brought back to my parents. Thoughts of what they acted like, what they wore, what they sounded like, what they smelled like.
But one thought stuck in my head more than anything.
I want to meet them.
