Chapter 5

Jungkook leaned back after taking a large sip of the beer as he let his friends' laughter go in and out his ears.

"You sure you can do that?" Jimin asked. "I mean, it's literally less than two weeks for your birthday."

How hard could it be to find someone who'd be willing to marry him in less than two weeks? He was certain that it wouldn't be too hard. It might sound like a brag if he said it out loud, but it was for a fact that if he'd just put up his face out there and announce that he was looking for a spouse, undoubtedly, in one day, he could have at least one long line of people willing to give it a shot.

The problem now was, Jungkook was picky. He didn't think he'd be able to choose one perfect candidate out of all those people in one day. Though he'd convinced himself that this whole thing would be just on paper just so he could avoid having his name dropped out of the will, Jungkook knew that chemistry was needed so they could pretend in front of their families.

Yet, despite his inner concern, he just shrugged his shoulders and acted that it didn't bother him.

"Why don't you just give the girl you had a blind date with a call?" Taehyung asked. "I mean, you have less than two weeks before your family disowns you."

"You mean the girl who was supposed to be your date?" Jungkook pushed his tongue against his cheek. "Were you even listening to me? Why are you even here?"

Taehyung raised a brow as he turned to Jimin and the latter laughed.

"It's the same girl his parents want him to marry," Jimin explained.

"Oh... okay? And?" Taehyung questioned with a tilt of his head.

"And they can't stand each other's guts."

"Come up with some agreement then," Taehyung suggested.

Jungkook sighed out loud, his mind reeling back to weeks ago, the night where he tried to make a deal with her. They didn't even know each other that much, met only once before that and she had tried to make him agree with having equal shares of what he'd inherit. While her argument seemed pretty valid to request such a thing, Jungkook still thought that it was too much. If that simple agreement that they tried to make had already failed, he was convinced that they would never agree on anything.

And as far as he'd witnessed from his own parents, though they did not exactly have a loving relationship anymore, they had mutual understandings and they could easily come up with an agreement. That was how a relationship should work. But with Park Chaeyoung, where even the tiniest thing could be a disagreement, Jungkook doubted that any type of relationship would work. Be it a business relationship or one that would involve feelings.

Feelings? Why was he thinking of a relationship that would involve feelings? If a relationship had to be formed between them, there was no way feelings would even exist. She seemed to hate him every time he breathed. And he couldn't stand her attitude.

Jungkook groaned out loud, shutting his eyes close as he counted the days to his birthday and tried to come up with a solid plan on how to secure the wealth without involving Park Chaeyoung.

Chaeyoung was on her way to her car when she received a call from her mother, asking her to come over because she wanted to discuss something. With a big sigh, Chaeyoung stared into the space before pulling out of the parking space. She knew that the discussion was going to be about their conversation a day after the dinner with Jungkook and his family.

"You left so early last night," her father stated. "Everything okay?"

Chaeyoung inhaled softly, the food on the plate suddenly reminded her of her dinner with Jungkook. She gripped the fork and stabbed the food with gritted teeth as she recalled last night. Was everything okay? No, nothing was okay at all.

"I can't marry him," she confessed.

The silence was so loud that she could hear the sound of her heart beating, the tick of the clock. If she stopped breathing for a second, she was sure that even the sound of ants moving or dust falling down to the floor would be so clear to her ears.

"Why?" her mother asked.

"We don't match. At all."

Chaeyoung's mother watched her for a moment, putting the spoon and fork carefully on the plate. Chaeyoung breathed softly as she watched her mother pushing aside her plate before clasping her hands together on the table. "How do you even know that? You just met him once."

Her mouth was itching to tell her parents that it wasn't her first time meeting him. She had had dinner with him in the past, though it was to replace her friend. The first time was enough to irritate her, and the second time of meeting him got her more frustrated. Two times were more than enough to know that a lifetime with him would be a wrong choice, a choice that she would regret for life.

"I don't think I need to see him often to know how unmatched we are, mom. I could feel it and you always told me to trust my instincts. So here I am, doing exactly that." When her mother opened her mouth to say something, Chaeyoung beat her to it. "Also, he doesn't like me. He doesn't want this either and he'd rather find someone else instead of me. Isn't that a good enough reason?"

"Chaeyoung, it's still too early to decide. I'm sure you'll like him once you get to know him better."

At this point, Chaeyoung was certain that she made the wrong choice in her life for even letting her parents choose a partner for her. If she had just gone out with every man Jennie had tried to match her with, maybe it would work with at least one of them. Maybe she wasn't going to be unlucky in love if she had pushed herself in that direction. Her words to Jungkook that night came back, slapping her across her face.

'You don't strike me as someone hardworking.'

She almost laughed at herself. Those words were more suitable for her instead.

Everyone was silent after her father interrupted the conversation, saying that it was a topic that they should talk about later.

She wanted to tell him that she didn't want to talk about it anymore. She made her decision. But the mood was already sour and God knows what would happen if her father lost his cool, so she kept her mouth shut.

When Chaeyoung arrived, she went straight to the kitchen where she could hear her mother laughing. As soon as she stood at the threshold, she froze before her brows furrowed deeply as her eyes settled on the person holding her favorite mug in hand, laughing with her mother.

"What are you doing here?" she asked, her eyes flitting back and forth between Jungkook and her mother. "What is he doing here?"

"Oh..." her mother's laughter slowly ceased but a smile still decorated her face. "He's here to see you."

Chaeyoung's frown grew heavier when Jungkook smiled warmly at her mother and gave her a bow just right before the older woman excused herself. As soon as the sound of her mother's footsteps grew quieter, Chaeyoung slowly stepped toward Jungkook, her glare holding him in place.

"Hi," he finally said to her before taking a sip of whatever drink her mother gave him.

Without another word to respond to him, Chaeyoung snatched the mug from his hand, causing some drink to spill on his white dress shirt. She almost smirked seeing the now red-stained shirt as Jungkook stood frozen, his hand lingering in the air as his eyes dropped to his shirt. She watched as he slowly closed his mouth, jaw locked before he inhaled deeply.

"That's very polite of you, Ms Park."

"Thank you," she gave an insincere smile. "I've been told that at least a thousand times."

Jungkook sighed heavily as he tried to reach a napkin but Chaeyoung snatched it away too before he did.

"Where do you think you are, Mr. Jeon?" she asked with crossed arms, the napkin clutched tightly in her hand.

Jungkook briefly glanced around before his eyes came back to her. "Well, obviously in my in-law's house."

Her jaw dropped at his poor attempt at a joke. "Well, you must be an intruder because obviously, you got the wrong house."

"Alright, maybe it's still too early to call it my in-law's house," he said, trying to go to the sink to wash off the stain but Chaeyoung stepped forward and blocked him from using the sink, causing him to press his lips into a thin line as he stared down at her. "But this will soon be my in-law's house anyway."

Chaeyoung's eyes widened slightly when she noticed how his hand had tried to move toward her and she immediately slapped his hand away.

This time, a huge frown was displayed on his face as he locked his eyes with hers. Then, realization fell onto his countenance and a slow smirk tugged his lips. "Ms Park, I'm trying to turn the tap on. I'm not trying to do anything to you."

Her brows knitted as she felt the temperature rising on her cheeks. She prayed so hard it wouldn't turn out to be as red as tomatoes because that'd be so embarrassing. She calmed herself before responding. "Who said anything about you trying to do anything to me?" she raised a brow. "Why don't you just leave? Pretty sure you have your own sink at home."

Jungkook scoffed, only shaking his head for a moment and nothing else. Then, as he pushed his hands into the pockets of his pants, he said, "I'm here to make an agreement with you."

She looked at him like he'd just said the most ridiculous thing ever. "Well, I already disagree."

"Stop being stubborn."

"Who are you? You're no one in my life, what makes you think you can order me around?" she scoffed and walked past him. "The door is this way, Mr. Jeon." When she didn't hear or sense that he was following her out, Chaeyoung held back her groan, gritted her teeth as she turned her body and began to repeat herself, "The door is this—"

"We'll go with what you want."

She was confused for a moment before the debate about equality the other night came rolling into her head. It didn't matter now, did it? If he had agreed that night, then all would be settled. But he chose to humiliate her and refused to relent even when he was already desperate and she seemed to be his last chance of getting his stupid name to stay on that will.

"Good," she said. "What I want now is for you to leave my parents' house. So, the door is this way, Mr. Jeon."

"Ms. Park."

"Mr. Jeon, while I'm being nice, leave."

Jungkook took a deep breath and they stared into each other's eyes for long moments. Chaeyoung refused to even blink, feeling like she'd lose to him if she did. It was Jungkook who looked away first and Chaeyoung didn't miss the way he briefly rolled his eyes in annoyance and all she wanted to do was to throw her fist in the air to celebrate her little petty win against him as he began to walk away from where he was.

"I'm curious about one thing." He stopped beside her, turning his head slightly toward her and spoke in a low voice, almost like a whisper. "What happens to me if you're not being nice?"

Chaeyoung scrunched her face in disgust when she realized the smirk hanging off his face. "Can't you just leave?"

His smirk was stuck on his face, she had to remind herself that her mother was in the house with them though not anywhere in sight. If they were both alone, she would have smacked the stupid smirk off his face that he would never find the courage to even pull a little smile.

When he didn't budge from his spot as he continued to smirk at her, Chaeyoung looked away and pushed him roughly by his arm, forcing him to move and his only response was to laugh it off.

When they reached the main door, Chaeyoung's gasp left her mouth when Jungkook grabbed her hand tightly and pulled her to his car. Everything was happening so quickly that Chaeyoung's scream didn't even manage to escape through her mouth, only loud in her head as she froze in the car seat, blinking her eyes confusedly.

She could escape while Jungkook rounded the car to go to the driver's seat, but she remained seated. Only when Jungkook had closed the car door did she begin to move an inch, turning to him.

As Jungkook released a soft sigh, Chaeyoung screamed, causing him to jump and pressed a hand over her mouth.

"What the fuck are you doing?!" he hissed and yelped when she bit his palm.

"What the fuck are you doing trying to kidnap me from my house?!"

"I wanted to discuss—"

"Then be normal and talk like a normal human being!"

"That's exactly what I wanted to do but you wouldn't stop asking me to leave!"

Chaeyoung crossed her arms and huffed, throwing her glance outside and for some reason, she was worried that her mother would run out the house and witness this, admittedly, childish quarrel they were having. But the worry in her mind vanished the moment her eyes landed on the unlocked door.

"Don't even think of—"

Chaeyoung didn't let him finish when her hand flew to the door handle and tried to open but just when she thought she succeeded, a hand wrapped around hers and pulled the door to a close. An exasperated grunt escaped her as she turned, attempting to yell at him but her breath stuck in her throat when she realized how close he was with his chest pressing against her shoulder.

"Can't you be normal and have a decent conversation once?" Jungkook looked deeply into her eyes. "Hm?"

Chaeyoung didn't miss the way his eyes briefly glanced downward and she swallowed nervously. "Get away from me."

Jungkook narrowed his eyes on her. "You will run out the car if I do that."

"That's the most logical thing to do when you're in the hands of a kidnapper."

"Jesus, I'm not trying to kidnap you." Jungkook looked defeated for a moment. "I just want to discuss with you about us but since you won't cooperate, we'll stay like this until the end of our discussion."

"Do you want me to scream?"

"I know multiple ways to shut you up," he said with a low voice.

His eyes darkened briefly as, once again, they dropped down and Chaeyoung cursed the way her own eyes looked down at his lips and noticed how pink and shiny they looked. Her face heated and immediately used her other hand to push his hand off her.

"Chaeyoung," he groaned. "Do you want me to tie you up?"

She instantly stopped moving, her mind went blank momentarily right after he called her by her first name. And did he mention tie? Shaking herself mentally, Chaeyoung sighed heavily and took her hands off him. "Fine. Discuss. Be quick."

Jungkook didn't budge, still being so close to her, and without the need to look at him, she knew that his eyes were still fixed on her, obviously trying to see if she had other things in mind to escape him. It lasted longer than she expected before he slowly moved back to his seat and exhaled long.

"Are you always this difficult?" he muttered.

"Is that what you want to discuss?" she scoffed. "Because if it is, that doesn't sound that important for you to kidnap me—"

"No one's trying to kidnap you, please." Jungkook reached to the backseat and Chaeyoung held her breath when his chest briefly brushed against her shoulder. Jungkook swiped his finger against the iPad and passed her the device.

"What's this?" she questioned, glancing blankly at the words displayed on the screen.

"Don't you know how to read?" He raised a brow at her and she wanted to use the iPad to slap him.

She skimmed the whole document presented to her, twice, before she frowned at him.

"I told you, I agree to go with what you want. Half of the inheritance will be yours," he said, staring ahead before he turned to her. "So marry me."
