Chapter 2

Ratchet was working at the computer when he heard three engines. "Ahhhh scrap," he muttered as Bulkhead, Bumblebee, and Arcee drove into the base, the humans jumping off/out from their respective guardians. "Come on, Bulk! She deserves to be on Team Prime!" Miko exclaimed. Ratchet raised an optic ridge. What was she talking about? "Miko, just because she saved Raf from Vince and probably got him to stop bullying people doesn't mean she can keep a secret," Bulkhead replied. "What are you talking about?" Ratchet asked. "A friend of Jack's saved Raf from Vince, who was bullying him. She pushed through these two strong bullies and then she socked Vince right in the face! I think she broke his nose. But then she threatened him and he ran off, his bully friends in tow!" Miko exclaimed. Ratchet sighed, pinching the bridge of an imaginary nose. "Miko, just because she stood up to some bullies doesn't make her able to keep a secret," Ratchet sighed. "That's what I've been telling her!" Bulkhead exclaimed. "Come on!" Miko exclaimed. "What's going on?" Optimus asked as he walked into the room. "Optimus, tell Miko that just because a friend stood up to some bullies doesn't make her able to keep a secret," Ratchet said.

Optimus raised an optic ridge. "What are you talking about?" he asked. Miko explained what happened again. By the end of the story, Optimus was deep in thought. "Optimus, you can't seriously be thinking about letting this human know our secret!" Ratchet exclaimed, somehow reading his old friend's thoughts. "What is her name and what does she look like?" Optimus asked. "Her name is Zoey Woods. I don't know her middle name. She's seventeen, about 5'11" tall, a junior in high school, orange hair that goes to about just below her mid-back, lightly tanned skin, and bright blue eyes," Jack replied. "Wait, isn't this the girl you were talking about before? The one who writes the books?" Bulkhead asked. "Yeah, that's her!" Miko replied. "Can you read us your favorite passage from one of her books?" Smokescreen asked. "I don't think we need to hear that-" Ratchet cut off as Raf grabbed a book from his backpack. "Why do I even open my mouth if no one listens?" Ratchet muttered, going back to his work. "Oooh, I have the perfect passage!" Miko exclaimed, grabbing the book and flipping through the pages until she found one. The 'bots that decided to listen, AKA everyone but Ratchet, either sat or stood on the ground as Miko cleared her throat before reciting.

" 'I looked up, trying to make out the large thing standing before me. However, it was too dark, so it was shrouded in darkness. All I could see were its bright red eyes. "Well well well, look at what we have here. A little girl, all alone and defenseless," it said. Its teeth shined in the dark, its mouth twisting up into a smirk. It slowly reached down, its outstretched hand about to grab me. I tried to run, but I was frozen in place. It grabbed me, its fingers wrapping around my small body, lifting me up. The hand was cold and smooth, almost like it was made of metal. It brought me closer to its face until all I could see were its red eyes. "And I just so happen to know your parents. No doubt they'll give up everything to save their precious little girl," it sneered. I had been shivering in fear, but now I felt rage. If I could, I would shout to leave my parents alone. "My liege, the attackers are at our door!" a different thing cried. "Let them come. I have some leverage over them," the thing holding me replied. The thing holding me waited patiently as my heart pounded. The door to the room was taking lots of hits, as something or someone was trying to get inside. The thing holding me captive smirked at each echo from the door being pounded. Finally, the door broke, crashing to the ground. Dust flew up, making it impossible to see anything.' "

The 'bots were sitting at the edges of their seats. "Then?" Smokescreen asked. "That's it!" Miko replied. "What? Come on, that's just cruel," Wheeljack said. "I know. This is her newest book, but she has another on the way. Nobody knows if she'll make a sequel or not," Miko replied. As the 'bots and humans conversed, Optimus turned away from the group and walked over to Ratchet. Ratchet had secretly listened to the story, his digits tightening as he remembered something. "Optimus.... That story....." he whispered, sensing Optimus behind him. "I know," Optimus replied. "But, it can't be her, can it?" Ratchet whispered. "I do not know. Perhaps. The story perfectly matches what happened all those cycles ago," Optimus replied. "Then maybe it would be best if we did allow her to come. After all, she'll be better protected here," Ratchet muttered. "I know. Which is why I'm allowing the children to invite her here after school tomorrow," Optimus replied. "Wait! You're letting her join the team?!" Miko exclaimed, hearing what Optimus had just said. "But, Optimus, you're going off on a limb! We know nothing about her other than she writes stories, her name, and what she looks like!" Arcee protested.

A few others voiced their protests, but Optimus held up his servo to silence them. "I have my reasons for why I am inviting her to join our team, but that is to be saved for another day," Optimus said. The others accepted his orders, though some did grumble about it. "Alright, so what are we gonna do?" Miko asked. "Well, I think we should say that the rest of the club says she can join, then invite her on one of the 'bots," Raf said. "Which 'bot though? I think she should ride with me and Bulk!" Miko put in. "I think she should choose who she goes with. That way she can be more comfortable," Jack said. "I agree," Raf replied. "Ugh, fine," Miko agreed. The group then spent the rest of the day hanging out, waiting for a signal to pop up, but all was peaceful. The 'bots took their charges home for the night before returning, staying up a bit later before going to recharge.

The next morning was the same for Zoey. Get up, get dressed (though now she was dressed in a dark purple tank top, gray leggings, dark teal skirt that went to her mid-thigh, black leather jacket that had sleeves going down to her elbows, black knee-high boots, and a black rope choker necklace. Basically what you see on the cover), eat breakfast, get her backpack full of supplies, walk to school, and wait for school to start. School was the same, do homework, learn, eat lunch, learn some more, then the final bell rang. Everyone rushed to their lockers and got their things together before going home since it was Friday. Zoey walked out of the school and saw Jack, Raf, and Miko waiting there. Their vehicles were parked in the parking lot, however. "Hey, Zoey. So we talked to the club about letting you join, and they said yes," Jack said. "Sweet!" Zoey exclaimed. "So now you get to ride with one of us to the club!" Miko added. "Choose who you wanna go with," Raf said. The three walked over to their respective vehicles, Miko standing on the Hummer with the door open, Raf standing next to the passenger door to the Camero, and Jack leaning against the blue motorcycle like he was some bad boy.

Zoey looked over the vehicles as she thought about the safety of each. Raf would most likely have the Camero go at an easy pace, but still be fast. Miko would most likely have the Hummer go off-road, which would make Zoey thank whoever created seat belts. Jack would go fast, but still, make sure she'd be safe. Jack also had his drivers license, and she didn't know who was driving the other cars, meaning even though it was a motorcycle she'd be on, she trusted Jack more so than the others. She walked over to Jack and his motorcycle. "Awwww!" Miko complained but still hopped into the Hummer anyways. Raf hopped into the Camero. Jack handed Zoey a smaller white helmet while he put on his black helmet. Zoey put on the white helmet and hopped on the motorcycle behind Jack. "Hang on!" he said before he started the motorcycle, driving away down the road after Miko and Raf.

Eventually, they drove out of town. Only a short while later the town disappeared from view. They continued driving for a few more miles as a large plateau came into view. Jack turned the motorcycle right towards the giant rock, making Zoey start to tense. "Uhhh, Jack? You do realize you're headed right for the plateau?" Zoey asked. Jack didn't reply, but he continued to drive right for the plateau. "Jack?" Zoey asked. He kept driving. They were right at the plateau now. "JACK!!!" Zoey cried, closing her eyes tight. She expected to feel the impact, but she felt nothing. She hesitantly opened her eyes and gasped, finding herself in a tunnel in the plateau. "Whoa...." she whispered. Jack smiled at how Zoey was amazed by this. Well, wait until she saw what was coming up next! They arrived in the base where they stopped. Raf and Miko came in only a few moments later. Jack hopped off the motorcycle and took off his helmet before turning to Zoey. She took off her helmet before hopping off the motorcycle. Her gaze traveled around the base in awe but then she stopped and her jaw dropped when she saw something she expected to see only in movies.

Standing at some huge computers was a huge robot. It looked to be a man, with reddish-orange and white paint. She couldn't do or say anything as she gaped at the giant robot. For some reason, it looked strangely familiar. "J-Jack? What is that?" she whispered. The robot seemed to realize someone was staring at him and he turned around, looking at Zoey. Instantly she hid behind Jack, who was a good four inches taller than her. "Zoey, meet Ratchet. Ratchet, this is Zoey," Jack introduced the two. Ratchet walked forward a few steps before looking down at Zoey. She looked up, her eyes wide with shock. "Perhaps she'll be less annoying and quiet compared to the other humans," Ratchet muttered. "HEY!" Miko shouted. Ratchet shrugged before going back to his work at the computers. "That's not all. There's still six more people you need to meet," Jack said. As if on cue the three vehicles the kids took to base from school transformed into robots as well. The motorcycle Jack rode was the smallest, obviously a female, with her main color being blue while she had pink accents. The Camero turned into a 'bot just barely taller than Ratchet, a male, being yellow with black stripes. The Hummer turned into a 'bot taller than everyone else there, another male, with green as his main color with black accents.

Another 'bot walked in, being a bit smaller than the Hummer. Obviously another male, with his main color being white with red and green accents (like a giant, snow-covered Christmas tree!). There was a small cylinder on his right hip that had a seeming resemblance to a bomb. "That's Wheeljack, I'm Arcee, the yellow 'bot is Bumblebee, and the green one is Bulkhead," the motorcycle introduced. Another car came racing through the tunnel, almost running Miko over. "Whoa!" she exclaimed. The car looked like some racecar but transformed into another male 'bot. His main color was white with blue and red accents, and he was a little bit taller than Bumblebee. "Whoops. Sorry, Miko," the 'bot apologized to Miko. "It's fine!" Miko replied. The 'bot then saw Zoey. "And you must be Zoey," he said, kneeling down. "Yeah," Zoey replied. "I'm Smokescreen," he introduced himself. Zoey smiled at the 'bot's enthusiasm. "Wait, isn't there one more 'bot?" she asked. As if on cue, the head honcho himself walked into the room. He towered over Bulkhead, his red, blue, and silver paint gleaming (they're all in the picture above, just minus Cliffjumper ;(   ). His kind blue optics gazed down at Zoey. He took a few steps forward before kneeling down before her. Zoey's breath caught in her throat. Why did the 'bot look so familiar?

"Hello, Zoey. My name is Optimus Prime. I am the leader of a group of autotomized transforming 'bots. Or Autobots for short. We come from a planet named Cybertron, which was destroyed in the war with the Decepticons. Now the war continues on your planet. Our human allies, Jack, Miko, and Raf discovered our existence and now are protected by an Autobot on our team. Now that you know of us, you will have a guardian as well," Optimus explained. Zoey looked at the four 'bots that could be her guardian. Either Ratchet, Wheeljack, Smokescreen, or Optimus himself. Zoey didn't feel all the best with Ratchet, he seemed too grumpy and untalkative. Wheeljack would be cool, but if he had a personality as explosive as that bomb on his hip then she might rethink it. Smokescreen would also be cool, he seemed like such a ball of fun. Optimus seemed like he had more important things to do than be a guardian to a human, but would willingly take on both burdens if it came to it. Optimus thought about it for a moment before he knew which 'bot would be best as Zoey's guardian.
