CHAPTER TEN

More time passed as the investigation of Alice Blair's homicide continued. Ryan had received a letter from an anonymous person at the police station, having no idea who even got into the department in the first place. But he had no doubt in his mind that it was the monster who did the deed, it confused him how the culprit knew who he was as well.

Was it someone who knew him personally? Was it a stalker? Or was someone who knew of his reputation? Either way, he needed to find out who did it, he needed to give this family closure. This may not be able to bring Alice back, but it'd at least let her rest in peace.

Meanwhile Michelle was writing up reports at her desk, she looked at Ryan who was typing on his computer, he held a serious and focused expression. But then again, that was his normal expression, she sometimes wondered if he was a robot. "Hey did you end up interviewing Walter Gibbons?" She asked.

Ryan scoffed, "No, he refused, and said he was exercising his 'first amendment rights',  though, I don't see how refusing to help an investigation stops you from acting on your rights."

"I mean he's a grumpy middle age black man, reminds me of my grandpa. But I don't know. What'd you tell him?"

Ryan looked at Michelle, "I told him I was coming back with a search warrant, which is what I'm printing out, and we're going to interview him." He scooted back in his swivel chair, grabbing the warrant from the printer.

Michelle nodded and got up from her desk, grabbing her coat and handing Ryan his, as they then set out to the farmhouse of Walter Gibbons, Ryan knew Michelle was in for a ride.

Once the detective and officer arrived at Walter's home, with a search warrant in hand, they knocked on the door and Mr. Gibbons answered the door. He of course saw Ryan and Michelle, Ryan held up the warrant, he really wanted to laugh but refrained himself.

"Hello Mr. Gibbons, remember me? I told you I was coming back. This is Officer Collins." Ryan said, showing off the warrant he promised to bring. Walter rolled his eyes, while Ryan and Michelle entered his home, they looked around and began to ask him questions.

"So Mr. Gibbons, where were you on the night of September 15th around one in the morning?" Michelle asked the irritated man.

"I was asleep, in bed with my wife. I had to get up at five in the morning to go to work outside of town, it'd take me an hour and a half to get there." Walter replied.

"Where do you work sir?" Michelle said, as she was looking at photos of him, his wife and their son. Who looked like he was freshly out of high school. Ryan looked around, he walked out the back door towards a small shed only a few feet away from the giant barn house.

He opened the shed doors and turned on the lights, as he was inspecting everything, he noticed there was dust not only was it everywhere, but it looked like there was a weapon placed and removed from the work bench.

He couldn't tell if it was a knife or a gun, as some of the dust was smeared, he did see a rifle hanging on the wall. Ryan could definitely tell it had been touched recently. He took note of that, and nodded, that's when he saw Walter and Michelle walking to where he was.

"You have no right to come in here! It's my property!" Walter exclaimed.

"Actually, this says I can." Ryan said holding up the folded warrant once again, reminding the older man, who knew he should've cooperated since the very beginning.

"As a detective if I see anything suspicious, or encounter strange activity with anyone I'm allowed and required to investigate it, as it is quite literally a part of my job. Mr. Gibbons, if you had answered my questions the other day, instead of enforcing your "first amendment rights''. We wouldn't be here. And if you're not suspicious why do you seem nervous and jumpy?" Ryan interrogated.

"That's none of your darn business, detective!" Ryan rolled his eyes, it was gonna be one of those days huh? He thought.

"Cuff him Michelle." The officer nodded her head and handcuffed Mr. Gibbons. She read him his rights and he held a scowl, most likely aimed at Ryan. This guy was being taken to the station, he needed to see if he knew more than he was letting on. And if so, Ryan was surely gonna get to the bottom of it.

Meanwhile Tyler left Scott and started to head to Art Class, Scott guessed today would not be kind to him. A boy came up from behind Scott and pushed his books down to the floor. Scott grunted in pain, you've got to be kidding me. He thought.

Scott knew who it was, he looked up to see his tormentor, his bully Austin Quinn. He had been picking on Scott for years, Scott kneeled down and picked up his things putting them in his backpack.

He didn't want to risk Austin repeating what he did, after got up he kept his back towards Austin. "Would you get off my back for once Austin?" Scott asked.

"Yeah, no, it's kind of pathetic how your sister's the talk of the town. I heard she willingly went with the guy who murdered her, she sealed her own fate."

"Take it back." Scott said, he began to walk away, but stopped right in his tracks. What did Austin just say? He thought.

"Let me think about it, ummm... no."

Scott tightened his fist, he kept his eyes trained on the floor. His patience was overblown, "Take. It. Back."

Austin chuckled and shook his head, a crowd around them formed. "What are you gonna do about it Blair? Summon your deceased sister?"

"That's it." Scott mumbled, he was so quiet the other boy didn't even hear him. Austin kept laughing, until... BAM! Scott had swung his fist decking Austin across the face and knocking him to the floor. "Mr. Blair!" A teacher appeared, grabbing Austin who had blood coming from his nose.

"To the principal's office now!" He shouted. The crowd that was once formed dispersed, the teacher took Austin to the nurse's office and came to the principal's office where Scott waited.

He sat across from the principal and the teacher that had seen him punch Austin, he wanted to feel bad about punching the other student, but he felt no remorse. That kid made fun of his sister, and wouldn't stop. If anything he deserved what he got in Scott's eyes.

A few minutes later Micheal and Laura came into the room, seeing their son sat down avoiding their gaze. "What happened? Scott are you alright?" Micheal asked.

"He's fine Mr. Blair, however the other student isn't. Scott had an altercation with a boy by the name of Austin Quinn." The principal said.

"What kind of altercation?" Laura asked.

"He punched Mr. Quinn in the face, and hasn't spoken a word since coming into my office. He will be having detention tomorrow."

"We can take it from here." Micheal said, the Blair family left the office and their entire car ride was silent, Micheal & Laura didn't understand their son's behavior.

Once they walked through their door and Scott started walking up the staircase, wanting to get upstairs to his room as quickly as possible. "Scott, what has gotten into you? You've never been the type of kid to punch someone without warning." Laura said.

Scott turned towards his parents, "It wasn't just because I felt like it mom, Austin was making fun of Alice!"

Micheal sighed, "That doesn't mean you should've punched him Scott."

"Oh, so you'd rather him get away with making fun of my sister, than get in trouble?!" Scott shouted.

"No, that's not what I'm saying Scott! You should've just told a teacher!" Micheal yelled.

"Don't you think I've already tried that? Y'know what, once you know the feeling of losing your sibling, and your parents completely detaching themselves from you, then come talk to me! Otherwise leave me alone!" Scott yelled.

He angrily stomped up the stairs getting to his room slamming the door. God did hate his parents in that moment, he knew he wasn't wrong, therefore he wouldn't be apologizing any time soon.
