Chapter 10

During Fiona's labor she had lost a large amount of blood. It was enough to make her so weak that she couldn't even get out of bed. Fiona was so sick. While her mother cared for her child Fiona stayed in her room. She was wrapped up in her comforter. She had the chills and a white complexion. Eileen was worried for her daughter but knew it would pass. Eileen didn't say anything to Fiona but she knew exactly what was going on. Fiona's daughter was slowly but surely taking Fiona's Powers for her own. If Eileen were to say a word to Fiona about why she was so sick, she knew it wouldn't be good. If there was one thing Fiona held very dear to her heart it was her powers.

Ever since the baby was brought back to this world Fiona never held her again. She let Eileen take over. The baby cried endlessly for her mother, but Fiona wanted nothing to do with her. She didn't know how to take care of a child. Eileen knew everything. Eileen promised Fiona she'd care for the child. That was the deal.

It was a few days after brith and Fiona had been sleeping. It was late at night. Eileen was resting in the spare room with the baby's bassinet by her bedside. Eileen was startled by the piercing screams. She jumped up from the bed and immediately went to comfort the baby.

"Shhh, hush now." Eileen says softly as she rocks the baby back and forth.

"... you just ate my love. You want your mother, don't you?" She whispers

The baby's cry grows louder and louder to the point were Eileen's ear drums rang.

She made the bold choice to disrupt Fiona.

Eileen carried the screaming baby in her arms and slowly opened the door to the master bedroom. She saw Fiona sitting up in the bed. She was also woken up by the baby.

"Why are you bringing her in here?" Fiona snaps as Eileen walks closer to her.

"She needs her mother. There comes a time when the mother's touch is all a baby needs." Eileen slowly brings the baby to Fiona but she moves her arms away.

"She doesn't need me. She needs you."

"Fiona... please."

Fiona looks at her screaming child and gives in. She trusted her mother that she may be the only way for the baby to calm down.

She opens her arms and Eileen lowers the baby into her arms.

Fiona closes her eyes attempting to stay relaxed while she just wanted to scream.

As the baby was held in Fiona's arms she slowly began to calm down. She looked into Fiona's eyes and blinked numerously. Even the baby was confused.

"See, I told you." Eileen says

"Why did she stop? What did I do?" Fiona says nervously

Eileen chuckles "She just wanted her mother." Eileen fixes the baby's blanket and smiles.

Fiona loosens up a bit and let's out a deep breath now that her baby was calm.

"She needs a name." Fiona says unexpectedly

"That's up to you." Eileen says as her eyes are locked on the now peaceful baby.

"Cordelia."

"That's a beautiful name. King Lear's favorite daughter from Shakespeare." Eileen says softly. Shakespeare was always Fiona's favorite.

Fiona nods and a small smile appears on her face when she catches her daughter in a stare.

"She loves you, Fiona."

"Why? She has nothing to love. I am nothing." Fiona whispers

"That's not true."

"It is. I don't have a motherly bone in my body. What do I do when you leave? I can't take care of her."

Eileen was silent for a moment and she went into deep thought.

"Fiona, I told you I'd take care of her. I will keep my word. If you do not think you can be a mother to this child, I will. I think it is only best for her."

Fiona had forgotten about the deal with her mother. She didn't expect her mother to offer taking care of Cordelia but she did. Over the last few days Fiona was able to catch a few glimpses of how well her mother cared for Cordelia. Fiona could never be like her mother. That's why what she was about to say was so easy.

"I love her, but I can't be a proper mother to her. I love her enough that I will do anything to make sure she has the best life. I think it's only right if she is in your hands, not mine. I am not mother material."

Eileen didn't mind raising Cordelia. She knew Fiona inside and out. She was selfish and not mature enough to be a mother. Fiona was about the glamour life and she knows she could never stay put. She wanted a stable home for Cordelia. She wanted to raise bring her up right. There will one day come a time when her powers will blossom. Eileen wants to be the one who disciplines her correctly on how to use them. There was so much more to the decision of Eileen raising Cordelia.

"As you know my life is back home in New Orleans. I don't plan to stay here long. There will come a time when I will leave. When I do I want you to know that I will take her with me."

Fiona was a bit broken hearing this but she kept it all in.

"You will always be her mother. Until you can be the mother she needs you to be she will stay in my hands. You'll always be able to see her, I promise I will never take her away."
