Chapter 26

I somehow managed to get some sleep that night, although I still woke up at 11 am. Not bad considering it was probably 5 am when I finally nodded off. Although I needed to stop getting up so late, it made it hard when I was expected to get up at 6 am for uni come Monday morning.

I listened to the radio as I went through my morning routine of shower and getting ready for the day. I was worried that they were now searching for the culprits of last nights massacre.

Not surprisingly the story came on the radio not long after I switched it on.

'There was an accident at the construction site of the new Balstone mall last night.' The reporter read, surprising me at the use of the word accident. 'A gang was reportedly using the area as a hangout when one of the structures collapsed, killing eleven of them. The police are currently advising the public to steer clear of the site of the incident as they further investigate.'

Wow, I'm guessing it was Alex's parents that have covered up both his involvement in this and the loss of so many drones whom people assume are innocent victims in all of this. Royal vampires sure can be scary.

But it also meant that the cops won't be knocking on our door any time soon. All we had to worry about was the Royals trying to recover their son. If they cared enough to do so, they are Royals after all.

I went downstairs to find Leah and Rose talking quietly, but excitedly between themselves over a stack of mouth watering pancakes.

I greeted them as I entered the room and headed for the pancakes. Rose and Leah stopped talking as I got close but I was too hungry to care.

"I have a favor to ask." Leah said as I got started into my breakfast that I'd smothered in maple syrup.

"What's that?" I replied, although it probably came out more like "Wattt's phaat?" as I was speaking with my mouth full.

"I want you to bite Rose." Leah calmly said.

I stopped my chewing to look at her before rapidly finishing my mouthful to talk properly.

"Are you fucking kidding me? No way am I turning my own sister into an Ethereal child and putting her through this hell!" It was a statement, leaving no room for debate.

"I think you heard what I said wrong." Leah replied still calm. "I asked you to bite her, not inject your blood into her and turn her into one of your children. Although I wonder what would happen if I did that as one of your children?"

I looked bewilderedly at Leah, like she'd lost her mind. Before turning to Rose.

"Why in your right mind would you want me to put my fangs into you?" I asked of my sister. "You know that you will never be a food source to me and it'd probably be less painful to stab yourself twice with a screwdriver. So why?"

"Because I believe in this theory Leah has about your fangs." Rose said. I knew that Leah discovered a virus living on my fangs that could heal, but I failed to see what that had to do with Rose.

"Basically, we want to see if the virus will heal the wounds of people that are not your children like they do for Jamie, Audrey and myself." Leah explained.

"So you want to use my sister as a guinea pig?" I was getting angry now.

"No Violet," It was Rose that answered this time. "I offered of my own free will. It only has to be a small bite somewhere people won't notice in case the healing effects don't kick in, but if they do then it means we're one step closer to helping all those people trapped in slavery as drones. Don't you think that's something worth risking having to bear a puncture wound forever for?

Ok, my sister did have a point. I slumped down in my chair defeated. "Fine, when are you planning on doing this? Also please note, while I'll try to make it hurt as little as possible, but I can't do a whole lot about the pain. So please don't hate me afterwards."

Rose laughed a little. "I was born sick, remember silly." Rose was speaking to me gently. "This will be a walk in the park compared to what I've already been through."

"It's Rhys's day off and he should be up soon. I'm not letting anyone bite me without him there, he deserves to be present." Rose said, I couldn't help agreeing with her. Although truth be told I still didn't want to bite my sister at all. But she'd somehow managed to convinced me otherwise.

"How's Gabe doing?" I asked to change the topic while we waited for the sleepyhead known as Rhys to wake up.

"We had a very long chat last night and I think she's calmed down a little bit." Rose replied. "Well at least she's calm enough that she's managed to pass out. I think she wants to talk to you about all of this but with what's happened with Alex over the years, it's making her much too scared to even be near a vampire. I'm sorry Violet, but you'll just have to give her time."

I nodded, appreciating my sister all over again.

Rhys eventually walked into the dining room to now cold pancakes. Leah filled Rhys in on what was going to happen while Rose reheated them. Funnily enough, Rhys had the same reservations I did. A point I made known, earning me glares from Leah as she was trying to explain.

Rhys ate his pancakes in silence, obviously as unhappy at the idea as I was. But he respected his wife's opinion enough to watch her go through with this experiment.

After breakfast we all retired to Rhys and Rose's room. "Where would you like it?" I asked my sister, referring to where she wanted to be bitten.

She replied by pointing to the soft underside of her forearm.

"I'm really sorry, this is going to hurt." I told Rose as I reluctantly pushed my fangs out of their protective sacs and as gently as I could, sunk them into the soft flesh of my sister.

The taste was different from when I fed from one of my Ethereal children. On a level of satisfying my hunger, Rose's blood did almost nothing, but strangely it tasted like home. If that even made any sense.

I retracted my fangs almost as soon as I sunk them into Rose. Rose herself looked flushed, but hadn't made a sound.

We all look at the two puncture wounds on her arm, hoping that this was going to work.

We all sighed in relief when a few seconds later the wounds closed over like they did when I fed from my children.

"Are you ok?" I asked my sister, worried. She just nodded her head, her face still flushed, before burying her face in Rhys's chest.

She emerged a minute or two later. "That was intense." She admitted. I was going to start on a speech of apologies before Rose put her hand up to stop me.

"It didn't hurt at all." She said. "It was more like the moment your fangs broke my skin, my sense of touch went into overdrive. Everything felt 1000x times more intense. Did you know that your cheek light brushed my arm as you withdrew your fangs? It was the tiniest touch yet I felt it so powerfully."

"It wasn't an increase of sexual sensitivity." Rose told a disappointment Rhys. "Just an amplification of all senses of touch. It's faded now though." Sure enough Roses face had returned to its natural non red color and there was no sign of the bite marks that were there a minute ago."

"Well," Leah said, speaking for the first time since we all came into the room. "We now know that Violet's virus works with everyone. I honestly hope she can use it to free drones. But I'll do a little more research on it first. If not then maybe something in her blood can be separated to combat the Royals blood without turning them into Ethereal children."

I was just glad I didn't have to bite anyone else currently, despite being a vampire it's not something that I enjoy doing.

I left Leah and Rose to examine and talk about the result of their experiment. Leah in particular seemed really excited about the outcome.

It was now 1 pm and I hadn't seen Gabe yet so I went and reheated the last of the pancakes for her. After presenting them on a silver tray with all the possible sauces and topping she might want, I carried the tray upstairs and gently put it down before I knocked lightly at her door.

"Hey it's me Violet, I've bought you some food. May I come in?" I asked gently through the door.

I heard movement inside Gabe's room but no response came.

After a couple of minutes of waiting I knocked gently again before saying. "I've bought you some breakfast, I'm just going to leave it outside your door for you. I'm also going to retire to my room for the day to do my uni projects so feel free to roam around the house without fear of running into me."

I adjusted the tray so it wouldn't be knocked over by Gabe's door opening and proceeded to do exactly what I promised and went to my own room to study.

With so much on my mind I didn't really get very far with my study but at least I had something to hand in to the teacher's come Monday.

I texted Audrey and asked her to bring some dinner to my room when my stomach told me it was time to eat again. I hated asking my friends to wait on me, but I'd promised not to leave my room today.

Audrey did bring me dinner and also informed me that Alex was yet to wake up, but not before making it clear that I now owed her a favor. I groaned after she was gone, I hated owing favors.

After I'd eaten I did the only thing left to a girl who'd locked herself in her room for most of the day. Which was watch TV until I was tired enough to go to sleep.

In all honesty, it didn't take long to fall asleep. The previous night had been a big one and I still hadn't slept it off.

...

A noise woke me up in the middle of the night, my clock told me it was 3 am.

I looked around to find Gabe in my room wearing pajama shorts and a loose sleeping top. In the clothes that revealed far more than what she usually wore, I saw the many bite marks all over her body. I was going to make Alex suffer further for what he'd done.

"Please just take what you need so I don't have to live in fear of being attacked for a while." Gabe said, turning her head to the side and exposing her neck.

"Huh?" Was all I managed to think.
