Chapter 2-Caught

My feet slowly crept on the floor, trying to be quiet as I could be. I hoped the voice of the monitor saying my name and code wasn't too loud. To be honest, I wasn't really supposed to be out without League permission, especially if it's a mission. I suppose I didn't really care.

Ever since Bart...left, the team wasn't the same. Though they were already broken from the other speedster dying. His name was Wally I think. After that happened, it took months to rebuild the cave, more of it underground now then an actual mountain. Just as I made my way towards my room, I opened it to find Artemis standing there with her arms crossed.

"Where were you?" Her voice sounded harsh, but I did deserve it. I set my bag down and try to find an excuse.

"I was uh," Quick think of something, anything. "Star. Gazing." Nice going idiot. Artemis' eyebrows rose in question.

"Really? Is that the lie you want to tell me now, or go ahead and tell me instead of the entire League?" She said. I sighed. I hated when she did that.

"I was out near Gotham. Bunch of drug dealers that the cops couldn't bust." My shoulders shrugged. "I took care of it."

"No kidding. 2 had cuts and bad bruises. One of them had a broken arm along with a minor concussion." Artemis glared. "That's not what I call handling it." I responded with a growl.

"They're no longer out selling drugs and buying them.  3 less crooks on the streets is how I see it." My voice rose in anger and stubbornness.

"As your supervisor and trainer, it's my job to make sure you don't sneak out and injure more people. That's not how we do it."

"Ya well, your not my mom so quite acting like it. I'm sorry trying to help cities is a crime, because if it is then lock me up with those dealers and murders while you're at it." I spat. I was not in the mood for a lecture. Artemis glowered and walked over to me. My body tensed afraid of what she'd do. Instead, she walked past me, pausing at the doorway.

"I know you miss him too, trust me I know how you feel, but don't do this in spite of him. He wouldn't want you hurting yourself in the process." With that final word, she walked out. I could faintly hear the zeta-tube say her code as she left. She probably wouldn't tell the League, but I knew I had to be careful not to get caught again.

I shut the door and jumped onto my bed laying on my back. I stared at the ceiling with tired eyes. She was wrong. This wasn't about Bart. This was about me.
