My expression changed upon realizing the connection between them. "Oh." I quietly said, turning away. "Maureen is your sister," I whispered, turning back to Ashby, who nodded. "Most of the people I'm around don't get the connections that fast, and normally I get it in like a heartbeat," I told Ashby, turning back to him. For a moment, neither spoke. Then he looked at her. "You seem troubled," he quietly said, and I gave a light shrug back. "People have died since we came here, innocent people," I said with a light shrug, and again the feeling of tears building up in the corner of my eyes. "I heard," he said, reaching over to touch my arm softly. "Everybody is looking for answers, and I understand that Jax and Clay want to find the kid at the same time." I quietly said, wiping my face. "You think they'll find answers?" he asked, and I shrugged. "I hope so. I know who did this in the back, but I also know who triggered the explosion," I said, slightly pausing. "Somebody who was supposed to be a friend, but greed made him change sides," I added, letting out a light sigh. "From the first moment I arrived here, I knew something was wrong with him. I told Chibs and confronted him," I said, feeling anger boiling inside of me. "Liam went down a path nobody expected, any of us." Father Ashby said softly, which made me look up. "You know about this?" I asked, and he nodded. "I heard about your confrontation," he simply said. I nodded, turning back to the front, just staring at the altar for a while. "Sometimes instinct notices what reason hasn't yet explained," he said, and I glanced over at him. "That's exactly what Chibs told me," I replied, turning back to the front. "Your husband?" Ashby asked, and I felt my hand with the ring slightly hidden under the sleeve, but I knew he saw it. "Yeah." I quietly replied. "He seems to trust your instincts," Ashby mumbled when I felt a slight cough behind us. When I turned, I saw the guard quietly cough. I turned back to the front. "He does," I answered Ashby. I looked down at the sleeves my hands were hiding in. "That's why it bothers me that I'm sitting here while he's out there," I said, speaking out loud what I was most concerned about. "Perhaps he wants you safe," Ashby replied. I nodded. "I know he does." I let out a sigh. "I just hate not being able to do anything," I added. Ashby was quiet for a moment. Then he said gently, "Sometimes doing nothing is the same as doing nothing." I turned my head to look at him. "Sometimes it is choosing not to make a dangerous situation worse," he continued, and for a moment I considered it. "...You sound like my husband," I told him, which made Ashby chuckle. "Then perhaps your husband has good advice," he said, and I smiled at him faintly. "Don't tell him I said that," I replied. "I won't," he answered, and I felt the silence return. But this time it wasn't uncomfortable. I looked toward the altar again. For the first time since I left the clubhouse and came here, I felt my shoulders relax, taken off the pressure of expectation. I felt a hand on my shoulder, and when I looked up, I saw Father Ashby on his feet and about to walk out. "I'll leave you to your thoughts," he softly said. I nodded, and I could feel a smile on my face, just slightly. "Thank you," I said quietly. "You're welcome," he almost whispered, taking his hand off my shoulder and walking away a few steps while I watched until he, all of a sudden, stopped and turned around. "Riley?" he said. "Yeah?" I asked back. "Be careful who you trust," he simply said, and I felt my expression change on my face. "Why?" I asked, worried I told him too much and he was trying to warn me of something. But Ashby just gave me a quiet look. "Because Ireland has a way of making secrets difficult to keep," he simply said, and I just watched him walk out of the church while I stayed behind. I remained seated for a few minutes after Father Ashby disappeared. His words kept circling through my mind. Be careful who you trust. I wasn't sure what to make of him. Before I could think about it any longer, the church doors opened. Riley looked up. Jax walked inside. He stopped when he saw her. "Riley," he said quietly, and I got up from where I was sitting, walking up to him while he did the same. "Jax." I said. When we met somewhere in the middle, he seemed good slight worried expression on his face. "Is Chibs?" I asked, but I couldn't finish the question. Jax reached out his hands, putting them on my arms. "He's okay; he's at the clubhouse, more worried about you than anybody else," he softly said, and I felt a stone in my chest dissolve. "Where is Ashby?" Jax asked, and I nodded to the door where he disappeared. "I need to talk to him," he said, and I understood. Jax hugged me tight. "He's fine, Riley. You don't have to worry; I got an eye on him," he whispered into my ear, and I just nodded softly. "Im gonna go and see where Gemma and Fiona are." I quietly said, stepping away from Jax, who nodded, and I gave him a nod. "Jax?" I said before leaving the church. "Yeah?" he asked. "Be careful." I quietly said. I felt Jax's expression change before he gave me a nod. "We will." I quietly replied. I gave him a nod back before walking out of the church past the guard, who quickly turned and followed me back to the apartment, where I saw Gemma and Fiona sat stopping at the door, not walking inside with me.
