Chapter 30 | Shadows
"Now you know what my power is."
She glared into Colt's pale white eyes.
"You tried to scare me on purpose! You could have shown me when I first got here rather than sneak around and scare me. What kind of faery are you?" she asked. She chewed out her next words, "You shouldn't have tried to scare me."
Elaine thought he probably thought it would be funny to scare her, but the thing was, he wasn't laughing. Perhaps, he just wanted to get a reaction out of her for amusement. Colt seemed like the type of person to laugh more on the inside Elaine thought.
"I wasn't trying to scare you, but, most fae are afraid of me."
"You don't intimidate me."
"Really?" Colt asked flatly.
Her spine flinched and she gasped when her wings released behind her. She straightened her posture, and then blinked, imagining them disappearing. When she opened her eyes, her wings disappeared.
He crossed his arms tightly with a sleepy smug look on his face.
"Listen, your boyfriend might show up in the morning. Then, what?"
"Boyfriend? I don't know what you mean."
"Look, I shouldn't have startled you earlier. I don't think there was a better way to show you what I am, though. It is easier to show you what I am than explain."
"Yeah, it's alright. I'm starting to get used to that kind of thing, actually."
"No doubt you have been through much I'm sure."
He thought her quite aloof and it reminded him of someone.
"Yes, I guess I have. Let me tell you, there are some freaky things out in those woods," Elaine replied while resting her hands on her hips.
"You don't have to tell me, I already know. These weapons aren't just for getting rid of the guards, you know. If you want to know what kind of fae you are, it is best to find out as soon as possible. You should know that," he warned her. "The man you are waiting on didn't come and get you. Doesn't that bother you?"
"Whatever he is doing is part of his plan. I trust him."
"You aren't listening to what I'm saying. Open your eyes. He's a fae and so was that girl. Put two and two together," he grumbled while squinting his eyes and stifling a yawn. "Mate or not, he's done a lousy job of keeping tabs on you."
He was enjoying his bantering with the girl and wanted to know how long it would be until this mate of hers showed up.
"What's your point?" Elaine huffed.
"He may not be coming back. He my have abandoned you for something more interesting."
