36| LEARNING TO USE THE FORCE + AN IMPORTANT FORCE CONNECTION

[ Chapter Thirty-Six ]

Nightmares didn't plague Adelina that night but she wasn't sure if it was because she had Poe by her side or if they'd simply ceased for good. She woke up feeling refreshed for the first time since her father had died and she wasn't going to waste the energy.

Though, when she found out Poe wasn't in bed beside her when she woke up, she panicked. She climbed out of bed shouting for her boyfriend who happened to just be in the sitting room working on his tablet.

"Lina, why are you shouting?" Poe looked at her funny.

"I thought you left or were kidnapped or something." Adelina sighed with relief.

Poe laughed, "Sorry darling, I didn't want to wake you."

"Are you working?" Adelina raised an eyebrow at him, "It's seven in the morning."

Poe laughed and set down his tablet before walking over to Adelina and grabbing her hands, "No nightmares last night, I take it."

Adelina sighed and nodded, "Yeah but I don't know what it means. I mean, are they gone for good or are they just going to come back even worse? Maybe Ben didn't want to contact me and that's why they stopped-"

Poe interrupted her, "Hey, hey." He let go of one of her hands to brush her hair back from her face, "I know you're scared, Lina. Hell, I'm scared for you but we can fight this together. I'm here for you."

"Poe." Adelina sighed, "I know you are but I'm not strong enough to fight this. I can't block nightmares, Poe. Even if they are some sort of Force visions, I can't block those either. I'm not a Jedi. I'm just a girl who is already sick of fighting her own brother."

Adelina fell to her knees, forcing Poe's hands back from her face. She tried to stop tears from flowing and clouding her vision but she felt helpless. She knew Poe wanted to help her and she wanted to believe that she could fight this but she didnt think she could. What kind of person was supposed to fight their own brother? How was she supposed to have the strength to push her enemies from her mind? The mind that they had entered without permission.

Wait. They'd entered without her permission.

Poe was kneeling beside her trying to console her when Adelina suddenly raised her head, tears staining her cheeks but no longer falling from her eyes.

She smirked at her boyfriend, "You're right. I can do this. I am going to force those First Order bastards to communicate my way. No more entering into my mind uninvited."

Poe's eyes conveyed his shock at his girlfriend's sudden mood change but he gave her a small smile, "Sounds like a plan."

Once Adelina had come up with the determination to learn how to force her brother to stop entering her thoughts and dreams without her permission, she couldn't be stopped. She spent the next few days building up her physical strength with Poe, Jessika and Nara and then her mental strength on her own but with a little help from Poe.

It turned out that Poe had a little bit of Force sensitivity, though it was very untapped so he wasn't too much help. However, his presence alone made Adelina feel like she was unstoppable.

Adelina wasn't able to use any mind tricks on her friends, probably because they weren't weak minded so she had Jessika and Nara pick out a couple of other rebels for Adelina to practice on, though they just thought she wanted to spar and hang out.

When Adelina finally got one of them to go fill out her reports just by using her mind, she was ecstatic. After she discovered that she was able to perform those types of mind tricks, she made sure to tell the rebels that she practiced on, what she'd been doing and apologized for not asking their consent. Luckily, they weren't too offended or upset and they agreed to help her practice as long as neither reported the other to General Leia.

Adelina didn't want to tell her mother about what she'd been practicing even though Poe thought she could help her daughter. Adelina was determined to get practice on her own without endangering her mother or having Leia watch her daughter like a hawk. She knew her mom and she knew that Leia would want to keep an eye on her at all times and would forbid Adelina from going through with any of her plans. And Adelina was getting closer with every passing day.

Adelina also hadn't experienced any nightmares recently and she wasn't sure if her mind was getting stronger and pushing her enemies out or if Poe was some sort of protective shield for her and giving her more confidence.

On the fifth day of her practices, Adelina was able to summon objects to her just like she'd done in the snow in her battle with her brother. Only this time, she was able to summon objects a lot faster and right out of other's hands.

Adelina was thrilled with her progress though she wished she could train with a lightsaber though she didn't have any idea how she would ever get one or learn to build one without a Jedi Master's help. And so far the only Jedi Master she knew, was her uncle whom she hoped was currently helping Rey.

However, her progress was still amazing considering how little anyone near her knew about the Jedis. Some people still thought they were a myth even though they had evidence with Luke Skywalker's whereabouts.

By the eighth day of her practicing non-stop from dawn until dusk, Adelina was sure that her brother would no longer be able to enter her mind, however, she was dead wrong.

This particular nightmare shouldn't have been classified as a nightmare for it occurred during the day but it shook Adelina to her very core. It was as if something or someone was purposefully connecting her to her brother or as if he wanted her to know something important.

She was in her quarters when she was suddenly overwhelmed by a powerful force that nearly sent her to her knees. Adelina gripped the side of a table for balance as pain rippled through her head.

"Ben?" Adelina whispered, for fear of being overheard even though she was the only one in her quarters.

Ben Solo's face appeared in her line of vision. He looked horrible. A very visible scar was running down his face and he looked like he hadn't slept well in days which was similar to how Adelina had looked a couple of days ago. He was standing in a room that Adelina hadn't seen before but there was no one else with him. When Adelina looked to the side of her brother she noticed that there was a bed and she immediately realized that her brother was in his quarters. Adelina had assumed that his quarters would have been a little bit more grand for the great Kylo Ren but they seemed smaller than her own.

By this time, Adelina realized that she'd been staring and her brother hadn't said a word. She tilted her head, trying to ignore the pain that was pushing against her temples. She whispered her brother's name again, "Ben, is that you?"

This time he answered though his stare gave her an icy feeling, "Adelina. You've gotten stronger."

Adelina gave him a dry smile, "Thanks to you, I can do things I wouldn't have ever dreamed I'd be capable of."

"That would explain the fact that you're able to hold this connection." Ben smirked slightly.

"Did you contact me to be smug or is there a purpose to this because my head is killing me?" Adelina grimaced at her older brother.

Ben squinted at her, "How come I can't see your surroundings? Can you see mine?"

Adelina sighed, "Sort of. It's a little blurry but that's probably because I haven't ever done this before. In fact, I honestly have no idea what this even is. So, if you were hoping to figure out our base's location then you underestimated me."

Ben almost smiled at that but he just said, "You really need a teacher."

"Yeah, well there aren't really any options around here." Adelina shot back.

"I could teach you." Ben offered.

Adelina rolled her eyes at him, "I'm not joining the First Order just so my brother can pretend he still cares about me. I don't want to be like you."

"Suit yourself." Ben responded and then pressed a finger to his lips, "I need to partially sever this connection."

"Why?" Adelina looked around frantically, "What's going on?"

"Nothing. You just can't be seen." Ben told her.

Adelina swallowed. She wanted to believe her brother was doing this for her but she didn't trust him. However, what other options did she have. He clearly wanted her to hear something and she felt like he was trying to protect her by shutting off most of their connection. But she couldn't know that for sure. Adelina gulped in a breath of air and nodded to her brother, indicating that he could now do whatever needed to be done so she could snoop in on his conversations.

The connection faltered and Adelina could no longer see her brother's surroundings and she watched as someone knocked on his door and Ben got up and left the room. Her view of her brother then went extremely fuzzy and she could barely see him however, she could still hear everything.

A man's voice sounded, "Sir, I believe we've located the rebel's base."

Adelina's eyes widened in shock.

"Thank you commander." Adelina heard Ben speak, "Have everyone prepare stations."

"Yes sir." The commander said, "We'll be there in about a day."

"No. No no no." Adelina whispered, trying to figure out what was going on and why her brother wanted her to witness the First Order finding their base.

Adelina squeezed her eyes shut with all her might to try and sever the connection before her brother could see how distraught she was. She forced her mind to go blank and the connection seemed to dissipate as soon as she did that.

She opened her eyes and looked around to make sure that it was really over and as soon as she confirmed it, she grabbed her tablet and ran to find Poe.

Hey guys!! This is a rather heavy chapter with a lot of information and important scenes though I might rewrite it cause it's not my favorite.
