3. Her

She was spending time as usual, not having any idea what was going on around her. It was common for her, to be kept in dark. She was a woman after all, and she had no control over anything.

A guard called the maids as he told them, "Get the Princess ready. She is to appear for an important dinner meeting."

He was quick to leave after that. The maids were surprised, but they told the Princess, "Rajkumari Ji (princess), they asked us to get you ready. It's a dinner meeting."

Ra was confused. What meeting? She was never attending meetings. What could the meeting be about? Did she do something wrong? She winced as she remembered how she had to serve her father's friends alcohol while covering her face, just to remind her what was her position, even if she was a Princess.

She was a simple woman, someone who always followed orders. She winced. What will she do now? However, she had a good maid, Sushmita. Sushmita, seeing that face of hers, just went outside and started roaming the palace, especially near the guards since they knew everything.Once she was hearing bits and pieces, she collected the pieces together. Once she figured it out, she hurried to the Princess, where they were applying different pastes on her face to make her glow. As she reached the Princess, she told her, "Rajkumari Ji, I figured it out. You received a marriage proposal. Someone is coming to see you."

"What?" Princess Ra shot up from her chair as she heard that. The mask of sandalwood and turmeric on her face made her look funny. For keeping the hair away from her face, her braid was tied up into a bun. All in all, the scene made Sushmita chuckle.

Ra was so surprised when she got to know that someone wanted to come see her for marriage. Her? Princess of such a kingdom? It was surprising how they did not think she was a prostitute as well. She winced at the thought. With the reputation of the kingdom, she thought that their lineage was done for. She shivered, not liking the thought.

She frowned, before she asked Sushmita, "How do you know that? Are you sure?" Sushmita made a silly face, as she laughed nervously and said, "I camouflaged myself and went out there in the palace to collect this invaluable information, Princess."

Ra gave her a look that said she was sad but she laughed anyways and said, "You really can go to great lengths for me, huh? What would I have done if you were discovered?" Sushmita laughed nervously as Ra giggled and said, "If I ever do get married, I will take you with me."

Sushmita grinned as she said, "I will be honoured, Rajkumari Ji. I will miss you too." The two giggled and continued with the way they were doing things. As the time for dinner approached, Ra was dressed in beautiful black saree with silver zari (thread) work on it.

Her head and face were covered with the pallu (edge) of the saree. As the guard was informed about the Prince's arrival, he informed the King and was told to lead the Prince inside. Inside, in the living room, the King was standing there, with Princess Ra besides the man. Ra was feeling nervous, as she was looking down.
