Chapter 3: Moving Day

That’s the last box." My dad said as he closed the moving trucks door shut, and dusted off his hands.

My mother and I stared at the house we once called home.

Today was moving day. Its been months since I had gotten an abortion and between the rumors and gossip that filled my high school, and the memories my house brought my parents decided that It was time to move.

The memories of my childhood began to flash back and forth. The good and bad moments, but a lot of them included Uncle Leon, the good and bad.

I exhaled deeply as my dad came behind me and placed his hands on my shoulders, rubbing them up and down in a steady motion.

"It’s going to be alright." He whispered into my ear.

I looked up at him as I began to nod my head up and down.

I picked up my Tommy Hilfiger bag as I threw it over my shoulder. I began to make my way towards my mother’s minivan.

"You ready?" My mother questioned as she pushed her key into the ignition.

I nodded my head as I looked out the passenger window.

"Everything’s going to be alright." My mother reassured me as she placed her hand onto my thigh, giving it a warm pat.

My mother began to take off as she seen my fathers moving truck began to make a move on, taking his lead my mother began to drive behind him as we took a long drive to Chicago.

**

We finally made a stop them we pulled up to a two garage door house. The house was decent and carried a home presence. Very safe and comforting. This was what Id be calling home.

After setting up my room, I laid down onto my bed, exhausted.

I thought about how I would adjust to living in Chicago. Tomorrow was my first day and I was definitely nervous. Not just about what I was going to wear but also about how I would be looked at and what they would think about me.

I rose up, getting up from my bed and walked over towards my mirror.

I eyed myself into the clear glass mirror.

I was not an ugly girl.

I had nice full pink lips, my teeth were straight. My eyes were kind of big, but I could deal. My hair reached my shoulders. My mother refused to perm my hair, in fear It would get damaged.

I sighed as I stood up and flicked my light off. I made my way over towards my bed and new state, new house but same routine.

I covered my face with my pillow and let out my tears. It amazed me that after all this time, these tears fell harder and harder.

That night, I cried myself to sleep just like the other nights I have.

I woke up to the sound of my door opening.

"Morning hunny." My mother greeted.

"Morning."

I rubbed the crust out of my eyes before stretching out my two arms above my head.

"I left some food for you on the table."

"Ok Mom thanks." I nodded my head as I stood up.

"Yea just tell me when you're ready."

I nodded as I walked over towards my closet.

I decided to wear something simple. I pulled out a ruby red shirt and a pair of blue washed out high waisted jeans.

I carried my clothes into the bathroom, placing them onto the counter and began running the hot water.

I waited a couple of seconds before I decided to hop in.

After showering, I wrapped my pink towel around my body, drying my body.

I pulled out my Shea butter cream and began motioning my body from head to toe. I sprayed my Bath & Body Works Vanilla mist and began to brush my teeth and wash my face.

I slid on my jeans and tucked my shirt inside my pants.

I began to part my hair in the middle and gelled my hair, brushing it into a bun.

I put some lip-gloss onto my lips and I was out the room.

**

My mother pulled to the curb as she parked in the drop off center at my new school.

"You sure you can handle it?" She asked, looking into my eyes.

"Y-Yeah." I said as I clenched onto my all black Jansport backpack.

"Alright baby, have a good day."

I nodded as I opened up the passenger side door, letting me hop out.

"You too." I fake smiled as I shut the door, reassuring her that everything was going to be okay.

I looked up to see BROOKMOUNT HIGH in big bold letters that sat on the schools wall.

Boy, this was going to be fun.

**

The second bell rung indicating that it was now Lunch.

While everyone jumped out of their seats, I took my time. I looked onto my time table to locate my locker.

"145, 146,147,148!" I said as I searched from locker 148.

I opened up my empty locker as I stuck my binder inside.

"You new here?" A tall, lightskin girl questioned as she opened her locker, which happened to be next to mine.

She spun her dial before looking up at me, awaiting my answers. "Y-Yeah." I answered nervously as her 6 foot frame towered over me.

"Alicia" She stated.

I nodded my head as I shut my locker closed, locking it. "Beverly."

"See you around Beverly." Alicia said closing her locker, walking away.

I nodded as she began to walk into the crowd.

"Wait!" I shouted.

She stopped and turned towards me. I smiled lightly before running over to her in my all black converses.

Catching my breath. "

"Yeah, wassup?" She questioned as she lowered her head.

"Yea um...could you tell me where the cafeteria is?"

"Yea come on, I was just heading there."  I nodded as she began walking.

Following  her Nikes, I followed behind her.

We walked into a hallway that was very dense, I was very imtimated. When I looked up I saw Alicia opening double decker doors that led into the cafeteria.

The cafeteria was very big and roomy.

"You good right?" Alicia asked.

"Y-Yeah, thanks Alicia." I lied, my ass wasnt good. I had no one to eat with.

"Alright good." She smiled before walking over to her table.

I looked around looking like a lost ass puppy before sitting down at an empty table I spotted.

Pulling my backpack onto the lunch table, I pulled out my chicken sandwich I prepared earlier.

I was about to bite into it when I was interupted.

"Aye Bev,  you dont mind If I call you that right?" Alicia asked.

I shook my head NO as I lowered my sandwich.

"Iight coo' , but uh you wanna eat with us? Instead of by yourself? You looked lonely."

Alicia pointed over to her table. "Were eating over there."

I looked over to see a bunch of sexy ass nigga's, groupies and a few chicks having a conversation, but shoot! Thats better than me sitting her by myself.

"Yea, thanks." I smiled.

I zipped my backpack closed , picking it up and carrying it onto my back and carried my sandwich in my other hand as I followed Alicia, yet again.

When we finally got there, I felt eyes staring.

"Aye guys, this my new girl Bev, she new here. She eatin' with us." Most of the niggas nodded except two. One was licking his lips eyeing me down, while the other one had his mouth open, speechless as one of the groupies who had happened to be also sitting on his lap, spoke to him.

"Romeo! ROW-ME-YO!!!!!" She said as she shook him, knocking him out of his concious.

"Chill yo." He said as he looked away from me.

I walked over towards Alicia and her two friends she sat with. " Come on girl, you can sit right here." Alicia patted the seat beside her.

Her two friends smiled as I sat down on the bench.

"Im Keyarii " One of them said. "-And Im Sherita!" The other girl said.

Keyarii had a milk chocolate complexion that showed her clear skin and complimented her smile. Sherita was a little brownskin and looked very colourful. Very happy and joyful.

"Beverly." I smiled.

"So what you doing here? Like why you come here?"

I gulped hard. "Um.. I had to move with my family because my dad got a job offer." I lied.

"Ohh girl thats cool." Keyari said.

I nodded my head.

"BUT WHAT I WANNA KNOW IS..." Sherita paused. "Where you get them jeans from? Ive been lookin' for them EVERYWHERE and I aint' seen them no where."

I laughed. " I got them fro-"

"Aye ma, can I holla at you?" I turned around to see Romeo behind me, standing up.

Before I could say anything, Alicia cut in. "BOY, I KNOW YOU SEE US TALKING." Alicia said kissing her teeth.

"Alicia calm down yo'. "

Alicia rolled his eyes.

I looked back and forth between Romeo and Alicia.

"Girl gon', we know you want to." The girls laughed.

I blushed, embarrassed.

I stood up slowly, unzipping my bag putting my sandwich in my bag.

I walked closer over to Romeo. "Come' on lets go on a walk." He said as he began walking towards the double decker doors.
