I untangled myself from the silk blankets, stretching out into a starfish, my legs and arms reaching all four corners of the earth.
The sounds of rain pitter-pattering against the window played continuously in my head like a calm melody. The windows fogged from cold breeze blowing lightly against the glass.
As it came closer to October, you could tell autumn was nearby.
I crawled out of bed, dressing myself with my uniform, as well as my ironed robe. I adorned my neck and ears with rubies and silver. I parted my hair, pushing it back into a high ponytail, letting my curtain bangs fall out to frame my face.
I curled my eyelashes, and applied light cream blush Daphne had bought for me at Hogsmeade, on our first day.
Looking into the mirror, twirling around, I felt completed.

New day.

One of the lessons was Defence against the Dark Arts. Like this day could get any more miserable. Plus, we had a new professor teaching us today. Let's just hope she would let me come in late.
I trudged my way through the class doors as we all had to stand around the room to sort out our seating plans. Professor Umbridge. That's her name.
I shoved my way impatiently through the group and stood by Neville.
Umbridge's twitchy eyes stared cold at me, but soon turned into a fake, nauseating smile. Her face alone made me want to gag. She reminded me of a toad.

'Miss Peyton, could you kindly inform me on why you are 15 minutes late to our lesson?'

I apologised quickly,

'Sorry. I must've slept in.' Gosh, I was so tired I didn't even have the energy to speak normally.

She sighed a heavy breath out, and clapped her hands together, as if in delight.
'Well, since you could not attend class in time, you will be facing detention with me after school. Thank you.'

My jaw dropped off its hinges slightly. It was my first day, and she was already giving me a punishment?
I heard Draco behind me snort under his breath, and I turned around, rolling my eyes at him. He smirked at me in response.

Walking to my assigned seat next to Harry, I slumped down in a big, exhausted sigh.

'Hey, you alright?' Harry gave me a concerned look. I just nodded and gave a tired smile back.

It was a little while into the class, and my eyes were on the edge of shutting down. The ink seeped through the parchment as I slowly kept on writing, and writing.
Draco prodded on my shoulder behind me. I spun around to look at him. Up close, his eyes were so beautiful. I almost got lost in them, and I coughed a bit awkwardly, causing him and his friends to chuckle.

'Can you three just stop being little pricks and actually focus on the lesson.' I eyed them up and down.

'Sorry, are we offending you darling?' He sniggered, which made them hysterically laugh some more.

I just rolled my eyes in disgust and turned back round to my comprehension.

The day went by in a slow, torturous cycle, and it felt like the classes went on for years.
Finally, school had finished, but of course I had detention to add to my day.

As I entered Umbridge's office, I was hit by blinding amounts of pink. It was everywhere. Too much. My eyes took some time to adjust at the sudden change of colour, as I blinked it all in.

'Good evening, Miss Peyton.' her voice seethed through the room as I saw her sitting on her desk, hands pressed tightly together.

'Take a seat and we will begin your detention.'

I sat down cautiously, still eyeing the room in disgust.

'You will be writing on parchment, some lines, 'I must not be late.' You can begin.'

I took out my quill and was about to dip it into the ink pot when she stopped me, graciously handing out a black quill.

'Here. You will find it more useful if you used this instead.'

My brows burrowed in confusion, but I took it anyway without a second thought, beginning to write my lines.
After a while, the hand I was writing on began to itch, slowly but gradually picking up the pace. It felt so itchy, too itchy. Almost burning. No, it was burning. I paused for a second to scratch my hand, but Umbridge stopped me,

'No, do please continue writing.' her smile broadening.

I went on and forced myself to ignore it, but as I kept going, it felt as though my hand was on fire.
Suddenly, bloody words etched through the flesh, scratching and cutting through. My breath stopped in horror at the sight and I felt every inch of me trembling with pain as the words kept scratching its way into my hand.
Soon enough, I was holding my hand back and fighting the screams down which were bottling up at the back of my throat. It was when it was too painful, that I dropped to the floor on my knees and gasped for air uncontrollably, my back arching forward to control myself.

'That should be it today. Thank you.' Umbridge stepped out her office, the sound of her shoes clacking away.

My breathing panting slowly from my throat was the only thing I could hear.
Barely.
My body burned.
I felt the warm liquid weep through my skin, and it ached.

-

'Are you alright?'

I turned to the side, seeing Draco sit by me.
It was dinner, and I hadn't noticed I was poking at my food mindlessly, staring into absolute nothingness.

I grumbled inwardly,
'Leave me alone.'

He poked teasingly at my plate, making it shuffle sideways. I slammed my fork down, glaring threateningly at him.

He pouted dramatically,
'Why are you so harsh?'

I scoffed,
'Piss off.'

He leaned in closer, smiling into my pupils,
'I've missed you, you know.'

My heart pounded uncontrollably, and it was hard to speak. Why won't this boy leave alone?
