Chapter 4: The Date
For some fucking reason, everything went black for a few seconds then I could see again, I was now standing in front of a wooden house with large windows and Papyrus was smiling wide at me but Sans was nowhere to be found. He peered really close at me and his eye sockets were gleaming again. Wait, did anyone see what happened in the last chapter? What was it? Time Skip?
"ARE YOU READY FOR OUR DATE, HUMAN??" He yelled again.
"Wait, you were serious??"
"OF COURSE!! THE GREAT PAPYRUS IS ALWAYS SERIOUS!" He placed his hands on his hip bones and popped his hip to the side like a diva, he may have been trying to be serious but he sure didn't look like it.
"So, you wouldn't mind going out with a guy?"
"OF COURSE NOT! WHY WOULD I? I DON'T SEE ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT."
"It's just. . ." wait, if he doesn't know then maybe things are different down here, "never mind."
"IS SOMETHING TROUBLING YOU, HUMAN?" He said with a tad concern.
"No! No. . .lets just get this date started huh?" I smiled awkwardly.
He didn't seem to mind my eagerness, in fact, his was worse than mine, he tugged my hand, tucked it in the crook of what would be his arm and walked off with me in tow. It was futile to struggle since he was a lot stronger than me even if he was a pile of bones, so I just let him tag me along, we passed a building that said 'Librarby', the guy who made the sign had one job. . .
We continued walking, well more like him pulling and me barely keeping up until we stopped at a place named 'Grillby's', it was a wooden building and you could feel the heat radiating from it, at least we were going someplace warm.
"HERE WE ARE, HUMAN!" He stopped suddenly and I bumped into his side, "I DON'T NORMALLY COME IN HERE BECAUSE OF ALL THE GREASE BUT I HEARD THE 'KING CLONE' SAY IT WOULD BE IDEAL TO TAKE YOU SOMEPLACE WARM AND FRIENDLY! SO I HOPE YOU DON'T MIND!" He gleamed again.
'King clone'? I wonder who that is.
"I don't mind." I shrugged.
He squealed and moved suddenly again, yanking me inside, the immediate warmth of the place contrasted with the cold of outside drastically, there weren't many people inside but it was still a bit rowdy. I looked around and saw a sad bunny with his/her head on the table at a booth on the right, a yellow plant thing sitting in the booth behind them with a frown, on the center-left there was a poker table with four dogs playing cards, a relatively big one was wearing big dark silver armour with a goofy grin on his face, one looked like he was a gambit and kept moving his head from side to side and the last two were wearing long black cloaks that covered their faces but they kept bumping snouts lovingly at each other.
At the back of the diner were a drunk duck with purple bags under his/her eyes and a fish man with blue bags under his eyes, both looked thoroughly drunk though and were sitting at the bar. He pulled me to an empty booth on the left side and let me sit down first before he sat on the opposite side, his smile seemed to be bigger and his cheeriness was getting brighter but I was the opposite. I kept my hood on my head and kept hiding my face and making myself small, I never liked crowds.
"IS SOMETHING WRONG, HUMAN??" He said, his concern returning. For someone I met a few minutes ago he seemed really worried about me, was this how he always is?
"I'm fine, really."
"DO YOU NOT LIKE GRILLBY'S? IS IT THE DATE? OR MAYBE YOU REALLY DIDN'T WANT TO GO OUT WITH ME. . ." He sulked slightly at the last part and his smile started to frown, if that was even possible, his eyes looked like they were about to trickle.
"No no no no no no! It's not you! and it's not the date or the place, it's. . ." me, "I just. . . I've never. . ."
"OR COULD IT BE THAT YOU ARE INTIMIDATED BY THE PRESENCE OF THE GREAT PAPYRUS!" His attitude became bubbly again and his smile returned, "MY GREAT STATURE AND HANDSOME FACE MUST BE TOO MUCH FOR YOU TO HANDLE THAT YOU MUST THINK YOU WOULD DISAPPOINT ME!" He grabbed my hands and stared into my eyes, "WELL DON'T WORRY HUMAN. FOR YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE NERVOUS AROUND THE GREAT PAPYRUS, EVEN THOUGH I HAVE HIGH STANDARDS, I WILL TRY TO MAKE YOU FEEL AS WELCOMED AS POSSIBLE!!" By now he was standing with one foot on the table and his hand on his chest, scarf flapping again. I thought he would cause a scene but no one paid any real attention to him, like he does this so often its normal.
"Okay okay," I giggled, "sit down will ya?" He smiled wider and sat down starry eyed again. Man, this guy is cute.
"May I have your order?" A deep sultry toned voice said.
I looked at the man and I went wide eyed, he was a man after all but his existence looked like something out of a book or a game...wait.

He was literally made of fire although he was in the shape of a man, his 'hair' was spiky and had faint yellow highlights, he wore a bartender's uniform and had thick glasses on his face(?) but he had no eyes, well that I can see. He also had a notebook and pen in his hands, how is he not burning the paper though? Fuck, how are his clothes not burning??
I didn't hear what Papyrus said but all I heard was the word 'Grillby' so I guessed that was the fire man's name, Grillby nodded and looked to me, "and you?"
I shook out of my stare that I didn't realize I held on him and ordered whatever Papyrus was having, he said he didn't like grease so what he wanted can't be that bad, Grillby nodded again and went towards the back of the door to a green door that said 'FIRE EXIT', his hair bobbing slightly above him like when a lit candle is moved. Wow, the fire man exited through the fire exit, holy shit. It was only then that I realized there was another dog in silver armour, only smaller, and playing poker by himself. He appeared to be losing. . .
Something about Grillby seemed familiar but I just couldn't put my finger on it, like we've met before or something.
I looked back to Papyrus and he was staring at me with those elongated sockets of his, he didn't have any pupils but his gaze was warm unlike his brother's own, and his smile seemed more genuine. Grillby came back a little while later with two pink milkshakes on a metal tray in one hand, he placed them both in front of us in a slightly hurried manner although he still looked calm. The cold from the glasses must've been bothering him.
"Bone-appetite." He monotoned and walked behind the counter to attend to the duck girl and fish man still there.
Papyrus gave a small glare at the man and pouted slightly, I tilted my head at him slightly as he turned back to me, it was only then that I realized Grillby said a bone pun and he didn't even seem realize it.
"HONESTLY, I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW PEOPLE CAN PUT UP WITH THOSE HORRIBLE PUNS."
"What? I thought they're punny."
I almost snorted my milkshake as Papyrus' mouth opened in disbelief and his eyes widened in shock.
"HUMAN!! DO NOT FALL UNDER MY BROTHERS BAD PUNSHIP!! IT'S DISTASTEFUL AND JUST PLAIN ANNOYING!" I couldn't help but laugh at him, even though he was trying to be serious he still somehow looked cute and goofy.
"Aw come on, Papyrus, where's your-"
"DON'T YOU DARE SAY IT!!"
"Funny bone." I snickered hard as Papyrus groaned loudly, he held his head and moaned in disbelief as I just laughed harder, eventually he giggled along with me and looked like he was enjoying himself.
I can't remember the last time I laughed so hard.
"You have a pretty laugh." I heard him say in a more serious tone.
"I-I do?" I could feel my cheeks grow hotter as my eyes widened, he liked my laugh?
His face turned deep orange as he realized what he said and waved his hands in front of him defensively, "I-I DIDN'T MEAN TO UPSET YOU, HUMAN! I JUST HAVEN'T HEARD YOU LAUGH SINCE YOU CAME HERE AND IT KIND OF CAUGHT ME BY SURPRISE," he panicked a little and sounded a little hurt, "BUT I DO LIKE YOUR LAUGH THOUGH...AND I HOPE TO HEAR IT MORE..." he looked to the side awkwardly and his blush became a bit darker as he fidgeted with his milkshake cup.
"No, no. You didn't upset me, it's just that no one really notices me so you jumped me," I laughed awkwardly, "and thanks, I guess."
Why was he making me feel this way? Why was he acting like that?
He smiled wide again and his blush disappeared, he was happy and cheerful again and giggled slightly as he drank his milkshake, I chuckled too and continued with my own.
Time Skip!
(Another one???)
The bar was quiet now as everyone left hours ago, leaving me, Papyrus and Grillby who was cleaning the last of the glasses used. We talked and laughed with each other, just enjoying each other's company. He told me about him wanting to join the royal guard when humans were thought to be bad but now he's just enjoying his time with his new friends and this human called Frisk.
It was about midnight now and Grillby was practically shooing us out the diner, we honestly didn't want to leave but I also didn't want to see an angry fire man vent on us so I pulled the resistant Papyrus outside with me. Papyrus pouted but didn't protest further as he took my hand in his arm again and trekked home with me in tow, we didn't talk this time, the only conversation heard was between the howling winter wind and the crunching snow under our feet. But we were smiling though, especially me, I always go through hell when I meet people, whether it be from the bastardy foster parents, the idiotic agents, whoever thought they were big and bad enough to pick a fight on with an 'unsuspecting victim'(the only thing unsuspecting was whether or not they could leave on two feet) or sacrificing my own happiness to help out the kids I'm with. Don't get me wrong, I love helping them but sometimes I just wonder if it's worth it since they have to deal with those assholes as their biological family while I can just get in trouble and be swapped with another family.
"I HOPE YOU ENJOYED OUR DATE, HUMAN!" He said breaking the silence.
"Yeah, it was really nice. Thanks, Papyrus."
"ANYTHING FOR YOU, HUMAN." He sputtered slightly at the end, stiffening slightly as he walked a little faster. I blushed slightly too but not as bad as him, man, this guy is getting under my skin.
We got to his place and he opened the door for me, walking inside I noticed a table on the right with a rock covered in sprinkles, a small sign under it saying 'Sans' pet rock'. The hell? To the left was a TV and a green couch and further left was a staircase leading upstairs to what I assumed to be two bedrooms. When I looked at the couch again I saw Sans sitting on the couch like a parent who was about to scold his kid for being out late.
"And what're you two doing out so late?" I soooo called.
"SANS!!!" Papyrus squealed as he ran past me to his brother, "THE HUMAN AND I HAVE JUST HAD A WONDERFUL DATE AT GRILLBY'S!!!! ALTHOUGH YOUR BAD PUN MAKING HAD RUBBED OFF ON THEM IT WAS GREAT NONETHELESS!"
Sans stared wide eyed for a moment then smiled wider, "oh really? Glad you enjoyed yerself Pap."
"I'M GLAD TOO!!" He turned to me and clasped his hands, "AND I HOPE TO HAVE ANOTHER ONE WITH HIM IF HE DOESN'T MIND."
"S-sure."
I yawned covering my mouth and Papyrus looked like he just realized something.
"AHH! OUR DATE'S AWESOMENESS MUST'VE DRAINED THE HUMAN'S ENERGY THAT THEY ARE TIRED, YOU MUST GET PLENTY OF REST IF YOU ARE TO HANDLE MORE OF OUR DATES," he grabbed my hand again, ignoring his brother, and pulled me up the stairs, "YOU SHALL SLEEP IN MY BED TONIGHT UNTIL WE CAN FIND AN ADEQUATE SLEEPING PLACE FOR YOU, HUMAN!"
"You don't have to do that, I don't mind sleeping on the couch-"
"NONSENSE!! NO DATE OF MINE WILL SLEEP ON THE COUCH AFTER HAVING A GLORIOUS TIME WITH THE GREAT PAPYRUS!" I could hear Sans chuckling downstairs as Papyrus opened his door and yanked me inside. There was a box of bones right by the door on the right side, a table with a desktop computer by a window, a race car bed to the left (omg I haven't seen those in years!), another table but with lots of action figures on it and a pixelated crossbones flag nailed to wall. It looks kind of like my shirt.
He caught me staring at the flag and practically skipped to it, "YOU LIKE MY FLAG, HUMAN?!?" He said feeling a little smug that I was staring at it.
"Yeah, it looks really cool," I set down my bag and unzipped my hoodie showing my crossbones shirt, "looks kinda like mine."
"OH, MY GOD. HUMAN!!" He gasped, "YOU HAVE THE SAME TASTES I DO!! THAT IS REALLY RARE CONSIDERING MY TASTES ARE RATHER UNIQUE!" He came closer to me and knelt in front of me, placing his weirdly warm hands on my belly, "AND SEEING YOU HAVE MY TASTE MEANS YOU WERE MEANT TO MEET ME!!"
I couldn't help but giggle as my cheeks grew hot again, yeah I was ticklish but this guy was bringing out that side of me I had to push down a long time ago.
"SOMETHING WRONG, HUMAN?" He looked up to me and he had the cutest worry look in his eyes.
"Nah, I'm fine, just tired." I yawned again.
"AHH, WELL I'M NOT GOING TO INTRUDE ON WHATEVER YOU HUMANS DO BEFORE GOING TO BED SO I WILL LEAVE YOU NOW!" He stood up and headed toward the door.
"Wait! Where're you going to sleep?"
"I SHALL BE SLEEPING WITH MY BROTHER SANS, HE OWES ME A BEDTIME STORY AFTER ALL AND I PLAN ON GETTING IT SO DON'T YOU FRET HUMAN!" He headed to the door while walking backward, "GOOD NIGHT, HUMAN!!"
"Good night, Papyrus." I smiled.
He closed the door behind him and the room fell oddly silent although it was screaming with the vibrant colors of his room and the clash of the different knick knacks, I sighed and took this opportunity to take a bath before heading to bed. After the bath I changed into more comfortable clothes and practically threw myself on the red race car bed, hearing it squeak softly under my added weight, I stared at the ceiling for a while having the sudden feeling that I was forgetting something. I sat up and searched through my bag, instantly remembering what I had to do when my fingers brushed against my phone.
Contact Charlie.
It was already after midnight so he may not be awake now so I'll just send him a text. I turned my phone on and flipped through my contacts, although there weren't much, and pulled up Charlie's number, getting a WiFi connection from God knows where and sending him the text below.
Me: Hey Chuck :) how're you? I don't know when you're gonna get this but I'm sorry I haven't said anything for a while. Hope the two goats aren't giving too much trouble from my disappearance, if they care that is, I'm not sure if it would be wise to tell you where I am but just know that I'm safe and not getting into trouble c; anyway, I have to go so I'll ttyl. Bai :)
I sent the message and tucked my phone under the pillow, going under the sheets and settling nicely on the soft mattress, my eyes became heavy as I soon fell asleep to the sound of muffled voices from downstairs and the soft patter of the snow hitting the window.
