Chapter 18: Blue Talks

Mettaton for last chapter above, phone screwing up so showing pics might be a bit iffy.

Grey walls and grey floors, everything's dull and bland, calm music plays in the background, not too hard not too soft. Papyrus is actually quiet for once, not that you don't want him to speak it just feels weird for him to actually be quiet. You guess you could say he speaks for both of you.

There's another elevator but that seems out of order too, maybe that was the one that connects with the one at the hotel so you had to take the long way. The music starts to get louder, you can see a city below, white lights on grey buildings, dots moving on the street floor. Papyrus says this is the Capital, where more prestigious monsters live, it seems boring, not as lively as the parts of the Underground you've been to. You continue walking until you meet a grey house named 'New Home', it looks like an exact replica of Toriel's house only stripped of color.

Papyrus knocks on the door, but no one came, he knocks again and shout to say you two are outside but no one came. He stares at the door with one of his puzzle solving faces trying to figure out why the owner hasn't opened the door yet, you roll your eyes and huff with a chuckle, walking past him and opening the door. To your surprise it's unlocked, Papyrus gasps loudly and starts to rant about how it's unmannerly to enter one's home without permission. You ignore his rant and look around, everything is like Toriel's house, EVERYTHING!! only dull of color.

Papyrus gets distracted by something shiny down the left corridor and runs off that way, you giggle at him and go to the right. You go to the door which would've been the bedroom you went into at Toriel's and find two white presents with red ribbons wrapped around them. There's a card in front of them, you kneel down in front of it at read it.

Help yourself. It says.

Help yourself to what?

You open both presents, one has a heart shaped friendship locket with the words 'Best Friends' inscribed on the inside on one side while the other side has a blurred picture in it, you could tell there are two people and they are wearing the same clothes but you can't tell who they were. The other has a worn dagger for gardening.

Mere fact that it's a blade is a big no no. You don't know where those memories keep coming from but you sure as hell don't want a repeat of them.

You take up the locket and place it around your neck, while putting it there you discover you had another necklace on, a small chestnut shell in the shape of a bear claw on black thread-like material. You have another memory and, for once, you aren't afraid to see this one.

"He's so cute."

An icelizard man held onto a baby boy wrapped in a bundle of blankets (he couldn't have been more than a few months old), swaying from side to side for him to fall asleep after a long day of playing.

"Of course he is, he's my kid!!"

A firecat woman jumped towards the two, cooing to the baby as he gurgled happily.

"Don't you mean 'our' kid?"

"Well yeah but all the looks came from me." She snorted smugly.

"Sure they did." He rolled his eyes, "did you get his birthday present?"

"Of course I did," she reached into her pocket and pulled out a bear claw necklace, "did you really think I'd forget?"

"Well you forgot this morning."

"Shut up!" She says playfully.

She put the necklace around the baby's neck which was extremely big for him, he giggled even harder gnawing on the necklace with a toothless mouth.

"D'aww!" They both said.

After a while he finally fell asleep, laying on his front in the crib, his smol cat ears twitching every now and then and his reptilian tail hanging loosely behind him. The parents stood at the door, the man had his arm around her waist while she had her head on his shoulder.

"And to think we thought we couldn't handle a kid." She said.

"Yea, at least we don't have to worry anymore. We're awesome parents."

"Yeah, lets go to bed. I wanna show you something." She walked away with a lot more in her hips.

"Y-You wanna sh-show me something?" The man stuttered.

"Uh-huh," she stopped at their bedroom door, "don't you wanna see what it is?~"

"Hell yes!" He said running off.

The memory ends there for your sake. Thank God.

"Y/N?" You turn around and find Papyrus with two bronze keys in his hand, "I HAVE SOLVED ANOTHER PUZZLE AND FOUND A WAY TO THE BASEMENT! ARE YOU ALRIGHT? YOU SEEM UPSET?"

You shake your head and smile at him, he smiles as well and helps you stand, walking out the door and to the basement hand in hand. Down more steps, you encounter more monsters, in fact there are all the ones that you fought before but they aren't FIGHTing you now. They are telling you a story instead.

About the King and Queen, Asgore and Toriel, their son, Asriel, and the first human that fell. About how they loved the child like their own flesh and blood despite the fact that they were human.

About how close the children were.

About how the child became deathly sick one day, and how they only had hours to live.

About how upon death, Asriel absorbed their soul and carried their lifeless body to the surface to fulfil their final wish. To see the flowers in their home village.

But he was attacked on sight because of a simple misunderstanding, they thought he had killed the child.

About how he smiled even though his HP was dwindling rapidly.

About how he turned to dust when he came back home, in front of his parents.

About how Asgore declared war with the humans yet again and making his people suffer once more.

About how Toriel left him when he announced the death of any human who fell into the Underground, and especially after he killed six children.

You don't know how to feel about all of that, the monsters were banished Underground because of a misunderstanding and you are the key to their freedom but that would mean you have to die. You don't want to die, but you also don't want them to suffer anymore. You don't know what to do.

Should you let this Asgore person take your soul and break the barrier?

Abandon your quest and stay hidden hoping the skelebros will keep you?

Or try to convince the king that noone has to die?

It's all too much to think about and you are starting to get a headache.

You approach a hallway with the words 'Judgement Hall' carved above the doorway, you two try to walk through but it's like an invisible force stopped Papyrus from following. When he put his hand through a blue aura blocked his hand, when you try nothing appears but he still can't get through.

"NO WORRIES, Y/N, FOR I, THE GREAT PAPYRUS, WILL WAIT FOR YOU TO RETURN TO THE HOTEL. I AM UNCERTAIN OF WHAT IS STOPPING ME FROM ENTERING WITH YOU BUT MAYBE MY COOLNESS IS INTERFERING SO I WILL LEAVE SO YOU CAN FULFIL YOUR QUEST MORE EFFICIENTLY!" He says doing a Superman pose, scarf flapping in the non existent wind like a cape.

You smile softly at him and nod, you two wave goodbye and he walks off where you two came from. You turn around continue walking, the marble brown and orange floors glistening from the sunlight that shone in from the yellow tinted windows. Your shoes click against the floor as you walk forward, noticing a shadowy figure in the distance. It's the same height as Sans.

"Human," it is Sans, "so you finally made it here, to the judgement hall that is," his speech sounds rehearsed too, "you may wonder what the judgement call actually is," you didn't actually.

You walk towards him, "uh, why are you coming forward? Why're you moving?" You walk a little closer, "y'know it's rude to do something when people are talking to you, you're a little rebellious aren't you?"

You stop when you are just in front of him, looking down at the smol skeleton with a smile, you can tell he is a little uneasy but you aren't sure why.

"So are you gonna just stare at this ol bag o'bones or are you gonna say something? . .well sign something."

*You ask if he could tell you about the memories you've been having.

"M-Memories? Like what?" You see a sweat drop form on his skull.

You motion for him to sit with you, while on the floor you tell him what happened in the memories. His face contorts from shock to concern then a bit of frustration with a hint of worry.

"Heh, so you remember huh? All the people you killed, the pain you've caused. . ." you can see the tension in his sockets as he stares at you with literal void eyes, "do you even know how much crap I had to go through because of you? The death of my friends, my one true love, myself. . .even my own brother over and over again?" You can hear him growl lowly at the end.

You. . .killed. . .Papyrus? But why?

"I don't know what compels you humans to just kill us even though we did nothing wrong, we were your friends, your family, and you just threw all that away."

A blue mist emanates from his left eye, a neon blue iris with a yellow border appears there, his permanent smile falters to a frown and he has the deepest burrow in his eye ridges that he can manufacture. It scares you, being so close to his murderous aura and to be the cause of it. That aura sends a another flashback careening through your subconscious, forcibly you pulling you into another memory against your will.

The stupid skeleton fell to his knees, clutching his chest as a red-orange liquid seeped from his chest. How could a skeleton bleed? Was it even blood? Oh well, you never cared for anything down in this shithole so why would you start now?

He coughed raspily, more of the 'blood' dripping out his teeth, he was heaving and had sweat on his skull. Maybe if he would get his HP up like his stupid brother suggested so many times he wouldn't be so tired after a few resets. You do admit he was stronger than you thought but it was only a matter of time before you caught him.

"Heh, seems like. . .you finally. . .got me. . .heh, I knew. . .my time would. . .come."

He stood up on wobbly legs, his eyes unfocused and his hand still at his chest, "hey. . .I'm going to. . .Grillby's," he walked right past you, he wasn't even talking to you, you thought he was just delusional now, "you. . .want anything?. . .Papyrus?"

Oh, he was going to his naive little brother. You hadn't killed him yet but you were certain the two would meet each other soon, you let the skeleton go to look for his brother, not bothering to turn around. You still had to kill the king and that damned flower but you still had to kill the bonehead to complete the Genocide. Shouldn't be too hard since you already practically killed Sans.

You walked off towards the throne room with the now 'bloody' knife and your smile so big and maniacal that it looked like it hurt but you didn't care.

Now that that Smiley Trashbag's out the way you have nothing to worry about.

There are glimpses from other memories too but they are too dark to see, the only color you could really make out were white, red and blue, and others had orange instead of blue.

You feel your eyes welling with tears, and your body shakes occasionally, Sans' death aura slowly disappears when he sees how distraught you are, full blown concern plasters his face as his eyes for back to their natural soft white color.

"H-Hey kiddo, you ok-urk!"

You lunge forward and hug him tight, crying into his shoulder and you cling onto him, you're mumbling 'I'm sorry' over and over again even though you know he can't hear you. He reluctantly starts to pat your back until he feels comfortable enough to hug you properly.

"Shh shh, it's okay kiddo, I. . .I know you didn't want to do it. You were just frustrated I guess, and that damn kid Chara made you do it," you never heard of this Chara person before but you are crying too hard to really think about it.

After a long while of crying, back rubs and failed attempts at making you laugh, your sobs subside and you calm down, you slowly let go of him and wipe away the rest of your tears, you apologize seeing his shoulder.

"It s'okay, had to wash this anyway. . .look I don't know how much you remember the good times or if your killing spree is all you remember but just know that we were all a family at one point. And that we all loved you even though you're half human."

You perk up at the words 'half human', how the hell did he know that? He was the same one that mistook you for a monster, you didn't know yourself but he should have less knowledge of that.

*You ask him how he knows that.

"Oh, I figured it out in the other timeline, the one before the last one we had." He shrugs.

You tilt your head to the side in confusion.

"Oh yeah, you forgot all about that. . .okay I'll explain it for ya again. . .a timeline is basically a time period in which collective events happen, these timelines have an unlimited amount of possibilities since there are various number of decisions one can make. That 'one' being you the human, the only person that can reset the world to a specific point because of that determination you have in your soul."

*You ask how he remembers the other timelines if you are supposed to be the only one and how come no one else remembers.

"Ah well I'm not sure really, no matter how many times I try to remind the rest they just forget with each reset. I'm not even sure myself why I'm the only one that remembers but. . .Papyrus seems to be regaining his memories," you don't remember him acting or saying anything that meant that he remembered anything, "he says he keeps having these weird dreams about being on the surface and also of dieing but he blames it as dreams and nothing else, which I am happy for since he would probably flip out if he knew the truth."

You feel a cold sweat break out on your back, what if he does remember what you did, will he still like you? Would he try to kill you?

"Don't worry, Papyrus loved you dearly, I don't think he'll disown you now so don't get your bones so rattled." He winks with his left eye, that sends a wave of relief to you. Like his winking showed that he trusts you and now you gained it.

"Though in this timeline you've you haven't really befriended anyone," you raise your brow at him, "I mean you haven't become friends with Undyne yet or went on that date with Papyrus," he smirked a little at the end, you glared at him playfully before lightly punching him in the arm, "ow, kid hehe. . .so what're you gonna do? Are ya going to stay and fight Asgore or try to get back the good times you lost in the last timeline?"

*You tell him you wanna try again at a happy ending with a smile.

"Great!" He helped you stand and dusted his pants, "now I suggest you make like a banana and split before too much time passes." He winks once again, you nod and walk off the the exit behind you, waving goodbye to each other.

You asked if you could come back later and ask more questions about these 'timelines' and he said yes, as long as you don't tell Papyrus anything, to which you agreed.

Now you understand why you're having those horrid memories, why they plague your mind, but who's this Chara person? You've never heard that name before, but it seems so familiar. At least now you can have some peace in your mind, now you have to right your wrongs from the last 'timeline' even if the others don't remember what you did. You want- no you HAVE to, and you wouldn't rest until you do.

*The desire to regain what you had lost, the passion of returning to your past glory and returning to your loved ones filled you with the determination to power on!
