The New Girl (2)

"Do I look okay?" Emma looked over at Regina, her face full of concern.

"You look fine!" Regina exclaimed. "It's just a movie."

"A movie I am going to see with my true love!"

"Now, you don't know that for sure." Regina brushed a strand of hair out of Emma's face. "But I really do think you look fine. No need to dress up like you're going to a fancy restaurant for a movie theater date."

Emma took a deep breath. "Okay. I have ten minutes to get to Lily's house, and she lives approximately seven minutes and forty-two seconds away, so I should probably leave now, just to make sure I'm there on time."

"I think you're worrying too much," Regina muttered. "But I'll let you go. I'm supposed to meet up with Robin at that ice cream parlor Ms. Fisher owns anyways."

"So, do I get to know anything about this mystery date you're going on?" Lily's mom asked her before taking a sip of tea. "Is he someone you're actually interested in or just someone who you're getting to buy you a movie ticket? Is he in any of your classes? Is he nice?"

Lily sighed and looked up at her mother, "Actually, he is a she, and she's great. I'm not dating her just for a free movie ticket - actually, I was planning on buying her ticket for her. We have US history and pre-calc together, as well as lunch. And yes, she is very nice." Lily smiled, "That enough, or do you want me to get her social security number too?"

"You're... dating a girl?"

"Yeah. I figured you wouldn't care considering you told me you had a girlfriend for most of your senior year of high school."

"I don't. I just didn't think you were interested in girls, that's all."

"So you wanted me to come out?" Lily raised an eyebrow. "Fine. I'm pansexual." Lily's phone went off, and Lily looked down to see a text from Emma saying she had arrived at Lily's house. "She's here. Bye, Mom!" Lily waved and didn't wait for a response before she headed outside to where Emma was waiting, leaving her mother to wrap her mind around the fact that her daughter was going on a date with a girl.

Lily's mother didn't care that Lily was attracted to girls, of course, but the girl that Mal had been dating during high school had shattered her heart, and she was afraid for her daughter. Lily didn't deserve to have her heart broken.

"Are you sure this is a good idea?" Robin whispered.

"Yes! Emma is my best friend and if Lily breaks her heart, then I need to be there to either beat up Lily or comfort Emma. Oh, and can you buy me popcorn?"

Robin looked at Regina like she was crazy. "No! It's like $18 per bag. Next time, bring a bag of that SkinnyPop stuff your mom buys."

Regina frowned. "How about an ICEE?"

"No, I'm not paying for overpriced movie theater snacks. Besides, knowing you, you've got a water bottle and a box of candy for both of us hidden in your purse."

Regina sighed, "You know me too well."

"Next!" Robin and Regina moved up in line and Robin payed for their movie tickets. The movie was supposed to start in two minutes, which was perfect timing for Regina and Robin to sneak in and get seats in the back, where they would have a perfect view of Lily and Emma's first date.

They found seats in the middle of the back row and sat down just as the trailers started playing. Regina took the snacks out of her purse and handed Robin a water bottle and a box of Junior Mints.

Lily had convinced Emma to let her buy both of their tickets, but Emma felt bad, so she ended up buying a popcorn for them to share - which was not actually $18. As the movie started, Lily reached for the popcorn at the same time as Emma, and their hands brushed. Emma looked over at Lily, unsure if she should feel awkward about that, but Lily's eyes were glued to the screen. Maybe she hadn't even noticed?

Emma found herself looking at Lily more than the actual movie, mostly because she couldn't believe Lily had actually agreed to go on a date with her.

Lily, on the other hand, hadn't looked away from the screen since the movie started. Partially because she wanted to know exactly what happened and partially because she was afraid if she looked over at Emma and dwelt on the fact that such a beautiful girl had gone to the movies with her (and wasn't a snobby cheerleader), she was afraid she would make a fool of herself.

After the movie ended and the credits started rolling, Lily finally looked over at Emma. "Did you like it?"

Emma nodded, "Yeah."

The two were silent for several moments before Lily spoke up, "So...what now?"

Emma shrugged, "I can take you home or we can go do something else. What time do you need to be back?"

"Oh, I walked out before my mom could give me a curfew, so it doesn't matter when I get back. We could just get ice cream and walk around the block or something?"

Emma nodded. "Okay! Belle was telling me about an ice cream place around the corner a few weeks ago, we could try it?"

Lily smiled, "Sounds good to me."

~

Regina and Robin were the last ones to leave after the movie ended, to make sure they weren't spotted by Emma and Lily.

"Did say they were getting ice cream?" Robin whispered as he and Regina exited the theater.

"Yeah. At least, that's what I heard. And then they were going for a romantic walk in the moonlight."

"Please tell me we are not following them on their romantic walk."

"Sorry," Regina patted Robin's chest, "better luck next time."

~

Emma and Lily's hands were entwined by the time they made it back to the movie theater parking lot, where Emma's car was parked. Their ice cream cones were long gone and it was time for the night to come to an end. But neither of them really wanted to call it a night.

"Well, looks like it's time to head home," Lily finally said. She looked over at Emma, who looked like she wanted to say something. "What is it?"

"Can I kiss you?" Emma blurted out. She immediately regretted asking because she was afraid of how Lily would react, but the other girl just smiled.

Lily leaned in towards Emma and pressed her lips against the blonde's. The kiss was short and didn't seem to suffice for either of them. Emma stepped closer to Lily and their lips met again, for much longer this time.

~

As soon as Emma and Lily kissed, Regina's face lit up. "Robin!" she whispered.

"I see." As much as Robin was against the idea of stalking Emma and Lily during their first date, he had to admit it was a fun night. And he got to spend time with Regina, which was a plus. And seeing Regina's grin while watching her best friend kiss a girl for the first time made it well worth it. Robin loved seeing Regina happy.

"I think they're going to last a while," Regina said decisively. "And I'm the first one who knows! Speaking of which, Emma is probably going to call me after she gets home to tell me all about it, and I should probably be alone when that happens, so that means it's time for us to part for the night as well."

Robin frowned. "Already?"

Regina placed a quick kiss on Robin's cheek, "Don't worry, I'll call you right after Emma hangs up and tell you all about her and Lily's first date in case you didn't see enough while we watched it all play out tonight."

"Oh good, I was worried you were going to actually keep Emma's secrets secret for once."

"She knows anything she tells me gets passed on to you. Unless she specifically tells me not to tell you, of course."

"Has she done that before?"

Regina just winked. "Now, we have to get you home before your mom kills me for letting you stay out too late."

~

When Emma and Lily finally broke apart, they just looked at each other for several moments before Lily spoke, "Does this mean we're...girlfriends now...?"

"Uhh... I-I mean, i-if you want to be...?"

Lily shrugged, acting as if she didn't care as much as she did, "I mean, you were the one who asked me on a date."

"Then, uh, Lily... wouldyouliketobemygirlfriend?"

Lily smiled. "You're cute when you're flustered. And yes, I would like to be your girlfriend."
