Soulmate Magic

Author's Note: Here's some fluffy Outlaw Queen fluff for OriginalBeliever 's contest. I hope you like it!😘

I've been playing around with the idea of soulmate magic in my head for a while now, and how it could work and link soulmates together (because clearly soulmate magic is even more powerful than true love...or maybe I'm just too obsessed with Outlaw Queen😂) and this is just some stuff I've come up with. So here goes nothing...

"Robin, give me your hand."

He and Regina were in Regina's vault, because apparently she and Belle had been studying soulmate magic for the past few weeks. And now, Regina wanted to test it out.

"You know, if you want to hold my hand, you can just grab it," Robin replied as he held his hand out towards Regina. The former Queen rolled her eyes before wrapping her hand around Robin's wrist, her fingers splayed across his lion tattoo.

"Now think of something," Regina instructed. "Something small, that you can hold in your hand."

The first thing that popped into Robin's mind was an apple, and before he could even ask why, he felt magic rushing from Regina's hand and entering his own body, causing a bright red apple to appear in his hand. When Regina saw what he had thought of, she felt her heart flutter. Even after they had been together for so long, Robin showing his love towards her always made Regina feel like a little kid whose crush had smiled waved at them.

Regina smiled up at Robin. "Pretty cool, huh?"

Robin nodded before studying at the apple. "Is this safe to eat?"

Regina shrugged. "Did you imagine a poisoned apple? You made it appear it, not me."

Robin set the apple down. "How does that work?"

Regina opened one of her books and flipped through the pages until she found what she was looking for. "Our souls are, well...connected. That's what being soulmates means. So centuries ago, a sorceress named Amara did some experiments using two soulmates named Jasmine and Aladdin - I'm assuming the ones from the Disney movie, Aladdin - after she trained Jasmine in magic. She found that when physical contact occurred, Aladdin also had magic, because their souls fused together whenever they were touching. Soulmate love was actually one of the origins of the phrase 'sparks fly,' because sometimes sparks literally fly when soulmates touch, or even look at each other, but that only happens in realms covered by magic. Which is why we haven't ever accidentally created a pyrotechnics display in my house."

"I'm not sure what most of that means," Robin admitted, "but I do understand why there were fireworks exploding in my mind the first time I saw you during the Missing Year now."

Regina rolled her eyes. "You're such a flirt."

"It's true." Robin leaned in for a kiss, but Regina spun away from him again grabbed another book from a shelf. Robin pouted at her, and Regina stuck her tongue out at him.

"You can kiss me later. There's something else I want to try." Regina set the book down on the table and stood on her tiptoes to reach what had been hidden behind it. Once she had it in her hand, she walked back over to Robin.

"What's a piece of chalk got to do with soulmate magic?" Robin asked when the saw the white stick of chalk in Regina's hand.

"Just take it," Regina dropped it into his hands. "Now, I'm going to close my eyes and I need you to go draw a circle on the floor somewhere in this vault. The chalk is magic, so it'll automatically disappear fifteen minutes after you use it. Make sure the circle is big enough for both of us to stand in. Once you're done, come back here."

"How close of a vicinity can we be standing in?" Robin asked with a smirk.

"Just go," Regina pushed him away and shut her eyes. Before moving anywhere, Robin pressed a kiss to her lips and Regina's eyes immediately shot back open. But before she could scold Robin, he was gone. She groaned and shut her eyes again.

When Robin returned, he pulled Regina into another kiss instead of simply telling her that he was back. Regina pulled away and glared at him. "You're impossible."

"So what's the next magic trick?" Robin asked, trying to change the topic.

"They're not 'magic tricks', Robin. That makes me sound like some fake magician at a nine-year-old's birthday party."

"Well I know you're anything but fake," Robin dropped a kiss on the top of Regina's head, "but I would still like to know what we're doing next."

Regina entwined one of her hands with Robin's and looked up at him. "I need you to picture the circle you drew, wherever it is." Robin did as he was told, and a cloud of purple smoke engulfed both Regina and Robin. When it cleared, they were standing near the entrance of the vault, in a chalk circle.

"It worked!" Regina grinned.

"You're such a magic nerd," Robin said as he rolled his eyes. But he couldn't help but smile at Regina.

"Am not!"

"Are too! But don't worry, I still love you."

Regina felt her cheeks redden, and she pulled Robin down into a kiss. When they broke apart, Regina began dragging Robin back to where they had been before. "Come on, I have one more thing to show you."

Regina took Robin's hands in her and stood with her forehead resting against his. "What--?" Robin trued to ask, but Regina cut him off.

"Shhh. Just relax."

Except, she hadn't actually spoken the words aloud. Her lips were still pressed together and her eyes were shut.

"Can you hear me?"

"Yes," Robin replied, unsure how Regina was speaking without moving her lips.

"Think the words, don't speak them," Regina instructed.

So Robin did as he was told, "Yes, I can hear you. What's happening?"

"Soulmate telepathy," Regina replied, her voice echoing in Robin's mind. "Unfortunately, I only know how to use it while we're touching each other."

"It's still amazing. How'd you learn about all of this stuff?"

"The book. It was Amara who figured it out first; Belle and I just read about her findings."

"Magic nerd."

"Maybe I am." Regina opened her eyes and looked at Robin, "I love you."

"I love you too, Milady." Robin pulled Regina into a kiss and ran his fingers through her hair. "You know, now I can talk to you without anyone else hearing when we're around other people."

Regina stepped back from Robin, making sure their hands were still connected. "And what would we talk about?"

"Well, I would tell you how beautiful you are, and you would blush and tell me to shut up. Of course, then Snow would notice we were acting weird and you would try to pretend like it was nothing, until I made a joke and you would start laughing, leaving Snow even more confused than before--"

Regina laughed. This time, when she spoke, it was out loud. "So, do you still think me spending all that time with Belle wasn't worth it."

"It was definitely worth it," Robin gave in. "But right now, I said we make up for lost time." He pulled Regina into a deep kiss and Regina melted into him.

"I love you, Robin."

"I love you too."
