Don't Fall For The Competition

Author's Note: At this point, I'm just writing more fluff and drowning in denial of Robin's death. I'm going watch the episode on Sunday and be like, "What do you mean all those fanfics I read/wrote aren't real? Of course Robin's alive!" 😂😂😂😂😪😭😭

Regina Mills didn't want to be a summer camp counselor, but it got her out of staying at home during the summer, so she applied for the job. On the bright side, her sister, Zelena, was a counselor as well. On the down side, one of the other counselors challenged her cabin at everything.

Robin Locksley wanted to stay in America during the summer instead of going back to England, so he found a job as a camp counselor. At first he figured it would be a summer full of ordering around kids who didn't understand the meaning of, "No," but then he met Regina Mills. And instantly he knew he was not going to rest until her cabin was defeated in every competitive activity the camp had to offer.

Why?

Because those gorgeous brown eyes and that dark, silky, hair made her look like the kind of woman who didn't like to lose, and because Robin wanted to rob her of as many victories as possible.

"You know the plan, right?" Regina asked Violet for the fourth time since that morning.

Violet nodded. "Ava and I will be defense, and Grace will switch out with me partway through. They won't be expecting me, and I'll grab the flag."

"Yes! No go beat the boys!"

Violet rushed off to her spot and the capture the flag game began.

"You're too competitive," Zelena muttered.

"I'm not letting Locksley beat us again," Regina grumbled.

"My point exactly." Zelena's phone vibrated and she pulled it out of her pocket, a smile lighting up her face. "Arthur texted me!"

"Isn't he in Scotland?" Regina looked over her sister's shoulder.

"No, he's in Ireland right now. He'll be in Scotland next week," Zelena corrected. Her fingers began flying across her phone screen as she sent a reply.

Regina rolled her eyes. "I'm never getting into a relationship."

"Come one, Regina. Don't tell me this is because of what happened with Daniel? You were fifteen!"

Regina pursed her lips. Daniel was Regina's first and only boyfriend. But they had to end the relationship when Daniel moved across the world with his family because his dad got a job offer in Australia. Regina had never fully recovered from the breakup.

"I'm sure he's happy," Zelena assured her younger sister. "And I'm also sure he wants you to be happy."

"What are you two talking about?" Robin put an arm around Regina. "How you're about to lose?"

Regina wriggled out of his grasp. "Not a chance, Locksley."

"I'll have you know Henry was on the winning team last year."

"And I'll have you know that the Mills sisters always win!" Regina shot back. Zelena laughed and high fived Regina.

"We'll see about that." Robin looked around. "Where did WIll go? He's such an irresponsible counselor, they must have been pretty desperate."

As Robin walked away to find his co-counselor, Zelena smirked at her sister. "I think 'Locksley' has a crush on you."

"No way!" Regina turned to look at Robin. He was talking with Belle - one of the other counselors - probably asking her if she had seen Will anywhere. She felt the ghost of a smile appear on her face when he broke into laughter.

"I think you have a crush on him too," Zelena whispered in a sing-song voice.

"Do not!" Regina felt her cheeks turn pink.

"I mean, I don't blame you," Zelena continued to babble. "He's hot, he's single, he has beautiful eyes, muscles--"

"I don't like him!" Regina shouted.

Zelena sighed. "Whatever helps you sleep at night, sis."

The two watched the capture the flag game and Robin and Will joined them a few minutes later. Finally, Violet came running towards the boundary line, flag in hand. Henry was right behind her, but Violet managed to cross the border before Henry tackled her to the ground, both of them collapsing in a fit of laughter.

"YES!" Regina cheered. "In your face, Locksley!"

"I'll let you have this victory," he gave in. "But tomorrow is the relay race."

"Well obviously my cabin is faster than yours if Violet outran Henry," Regina replied smugly. "But dream about victory all you like." Regina turned to face her cabin. "Good job, girls! Lunch is in ten minutes! And don't forget, s'mores tonight as a prize for this victory!"

Robin raised an eyebrow. "Bribery? Is that how you do it?"

Regina shrugged. "Maybe my cabin is just better than yours."

"We'll see about that."

"Do you think there's something going on between Regina and Robin?" Violet asked Henry as the two headed to the dining pavilion. "I mean...just the way they look at each other."

Henry shrugged. "It's very possible. Maybe that's why they're always at each other's throats. And why they spend so much time together."

"I bet arguing about who is going to win is just an excuse."

"Yeah, they're probably saying ross lovey-dovey stuff while we're competing."

Violet stopped walking and looked over at Henry. "Or maybe they don't know they're in love yet. Maybe we should help them realize it."

Henry frowned. "What do you suggest?"

"Zelena and Will are going to have to agree, but I think we can make them. And then tomorrow, when we're supposed to compete against each other in the relay, we'll put the plan into action..."

The relay race was in the morning, before it got too hot. Violet and Henry were the starters and finishers for their respective cabins. All of the campers had agreed to the plan, and Will and Zelena were in on it too.

"Good luck, Mills." Robin jeered. "You'll need it."

"I think it's you who will be needing the luck," Regina met Robin's smirk with one of her own. "Too bad I'm not willing to offer you any."

Zelena and Will stood closer to the starting line, ready to signal the campers to begin.

"You know the rules," Zelena shouted. "So, on your mark...get set..." Zelena blew the foghorn, "GO!"

No one moved.

"Go!" Regina shouted at Violet. "Go, come on!"

Violet and Henry sat down.

"What are you doing?" Robin exclaimed. "Go, run! We have to win!"

"Not until you two admit how you feel," Zelena said. Violet and Henry nodded in agreement.

"I feel frustrated because we could be winning right now!" Regina exclaimed.

"About each other," Will specified.

Regina froze.

"Regina," Robin turned to face her. "You are the single most competitive person I have met in my life and I absolutely hate you."

"Robin. You are the most annoying person I have ever had the displeasure of meeting, and the hatred is mutual."

Robin pulled Regina into a kiss, and Regina allowed herself to melt into him.

Henry, Violet, Zelena, and Will cheered, and Henry and Violet stood up and took off running. Regina broke the kiss and turned to cheer Violet on; "Go, go, go! Come on, you can beat him!"

Robin smiled and pressed his lips to the side of Regina's forehead. "I don't hate you."

Regina tore her eyes from the relay race and looked up at Robin. "I don't hate you either."

"My cabin is so going to beat yours, Mills."

Regina laughed, "In your dreams, Locksley."
