Chapter 8
"I'm not bowling." I said, scrunching my nose in disgust.
"Come on it's not that bad." Niall argued, following me into the bowling alley.
"The shoes stink, the food sucks and nobody is ever happy with who wins." I pointed out.
Kaci was already at the desk, getting her shoes. The teenage girl at the desk saw Niall and her eyes grew big.
"Oh wow. Niall Horan." She stammered. I felt a little jealous as she swept her hair to one side and flirted with Niall.
"We just need shoes." He insisted.
"Is this your girlfriend?" The girl asked.
"No, no, no, no, no gameshow contestant." I clarified. "I'm going to meet the others over there."
"Okay. I'll be there in a second." Niall smiled.
I found what table they were sitting at and I started walking over there.
"And that's why you'll never get one of them. Ever." Karissa said, pointing a finger in Kaci's face.
"Leave her alone you ass." I told her, pulling Kaci to a different table with me.
"Why are they so rude?" Kaci demanded, her cheeks turning pink in frustration.
"I don't know. They aren't even pretty." I laughed.
Jess wasn't ugly but she was average with her blonde hair and blue eyes. Not to mention the obvious lip injections and nose job.
Karissa on the other hand wasn't pretty in the slightest. Her long brown hair extended to her waist and her chocolate eyes were small. Her nose looked natural just too big for her face and her lips were thin. At least she was all natural.
"Okay ladies! I just ordered a pepperoni pizza for us which should be out soon." Niall said, sitting down at the table with Kaci and me.
"Ni I'm a vegetarian!" Karissa whined. "I told you like a bizillion times."
"Stop being a baby you can pick the pepperoni's off." I told her.
"Thank you." Niall whispered, rolling his eyes at their behavior.
I grabbed a ball and set up the scoreboard so that I was first, then Kaci, Niall, Karissa and Jess.
"Why am I last?" Jess complained.
"Shut up!" I groaned, covering my ears.
Niall and Kaci laughed and I glared at them.
"Okay okay, let's get started." Niall said.
I took my ball and walked up to the starting line. I swung my arm back and in one swift movement, the ball was en route for the the pins.
"Thank you, thank you." I giggled, bowing as my ball knocked over all the pins.
After Kaci and Niall went, Karrisa sashayed up to the line. She swung her nonexistent hips and rolled the ball.
"Aw man! I didn't get it!" She shouted, stomping her foot.
"I need some air. Anybody want to join?" I asked, standing up.
"Yeah, I'll come." Niall smiled, following me to the door.
He opened the door for me and I have him a small smile. As much as I was trying to resist, I was starting to like Niall. He wasn't like Liam who was sweet and quiet. He wasn't like Louis who was cheeky and loud. He was just...him; sweet, funny, polite and adorable.
Basically the opposite of me.
"Why do you want to be voted off so badly?" Niall asked.
"So this is the game we're going to play, huh?" I asked, leaning forward and resting my elbows on my knees.
"Yes now answer." Niall laughed.
"Fine but I get to ask you a question next." I agreed.
"Okay okay."
"The reason I want to be voted off was because I signed up as a joke. I've always kind of hated those girls who go crazy just by seeing another teenage boy. It bothers me. Why can't everyone be famous?" I replied.
"Wow, that's deep." Niall said, a small smile spreading over his face.
"Yeah whatever. Okay, my turn." I sighed, trying to think of a good question. "Got one. Why do you like me?" I asked.
"In what sense?" He answered.
"Either or." I shrugged.
"Well, I like you as a friend because you're funny and not afraid to speak your mind. I like you as more than a friend because you're like no other girl I've ever met before. You aren't like the fans who are crazy. You aren't like the other celebs who are annoying. You're just...you."
I smiled, because what he just said about me was what I just thought about him.
"What?" He asked, smiling with me.
"It's just that...that's what I was just thinking about you." I replied.
"Is it true?" Niall whispered.
"Is what true?"
"That you've never had your first kiss?" He said.
"Yeah it's true." I mumbled, kicking at the pebbles on the sidewalk.
"Who do you want to be your first kiss?" He asked.
I noticed he was getting closer. Slowly, his body shifted from two feet away, to one foot away, and so on.
"I don't know." I whispered.
His blue eyes were focused and beautiful as he grazed my cheek with his hand. I felt him slowly lean into me as I did the same.
"So much as for not being a couple." The girl front the counter snorted, coming outside and walking to her car.
I felt myself jerk away at her words and get defensive.
"You don't even know me!" I yelled at her.
The blonde bombshell turned around and glared at me.
"You wouldn't know that I've never had my first kiss. You wouldn't know that I had cancer when I was little. You wouldn't know that-"
"Okay okay. She was just making a comment." Niall whispered, pulling me backwards towards the alley.
I don't know what came over me. I'm just so tired of the comments. It doesn't matter if they come from Jess, Karissa, my family, my friends, the media, even this girl I don't know.
I turned around and buried myself in Niall's chest, tears escaping my strong grip on them.
"Shh, let's get you back inside."
~~~
"Hey are you okay?" Lindsey asked, sitting down next to me at dinner.
"Yeah, why?" I replied, my eyes no doubtably glazed over with sadness.
"You have like two things on your plate and you've been really quiet ever since we got back." She told me.
"I'm fine. Just tired." I said, forcing a tight smile.
"Hello Lindsey." Harry smiled, walking over and sitting down next to her. He looked around before giving her a quick kiss on the cheek.
"Hey Bethany." Liam said, joining us at the table.
"Hey Liam." I sighed.
"Is everything okay?" He asked.
"Everything is fine!" I shouted, pushing away from the table and running upstairs to my room.
All I wanted today was my first kiss but I can't even have it because of some stupid Stars-n-Strikes employee. The worst part is, is that I actually wanted the kiss. I might seem like a hard-ass sometimes but this was something that meant a lot to me.
I laid down on my bed and let out a deep sigh. My T.V. was turned to Food Network. I couldn't handle food right now so I popped in one of the movies I had.
"Hey Bethany?" A soft voice asked.
I flipped myself over and looked at the face that was coming in.
"Niall." I greeted, sitting up and giving him a tiny smile.
"Do you want to finish our...you know...?" Niall asked, blushing.
"Oh...um...actually yeah." I said, tossing my hair over my shoulder.
Niall smiled and sat down next to me. I found myself wondering how this would go. I mean, I hear all the time that first kisses are awkward and gross, but I also hear about how they're magical and perfect. Life changing even.
I felt Niall's hand rest on my cheek as he leaned in to kiss me.
It was sparks all at once. Shooting through my body. He wasn't like those guys that shove their tongue down your throat but the one who is gentle and cares about you.
I pulled away and gave him a shy smile.
What a night.
