✏️ Isla

Welcome back for my third interview, and this time we have Isla! She's one of the most popular Wattpadians I've known, so of course, I'm very honored to interview her!

She's the author of silent, a very popular story with 3 million reads on Wattpad! Other than, she's also written the story, little bird, and many other stories!

Scroll down below to find out more about our interview!

Q: Me (Interviewer)

A: Isla (Interviewee)

Q: Hello there! I'm @theyoungwriter0415, the interviewer for Behind Every Book, and I'm here to conduct my interview. I hope that you are all ready for your interview! Is there any name you would like me to address you as?

A: Hiii sorry I didn't see this! You can call me Isla!!

Q: Nice to meet you, Isla!

Before we begin, would you mind sharing something about yourself? Perhaps your hobbies apart from writing?

A: I really enjoy reading and I do netball in school!

Q: Ooh, so you like reading? What are some of your favourite books?

A: Throne of Glass series is definitely my all time favourite! I also really like anything by Holly Bourne, as well as Tahereh Mafi!

Q: Throne of Glass? I think I've heard of that series before! Perhaps I should go read it.

Now, let's go on to writing! I can see then you've written quite a few books, which have gone really popular! Let's talk about your most popular book, silent. Could you share with us more about this book?

A: Yeah TOG is really popular on TikTok!

I first started writing Silent around October of last year and I wasn't even going to publish it at first due to discouragement with another book I had called Finding Adelina, which is no longer up.

I got inspiration from a girl who came into my school who used to be mute so I decided to use that as a major plot point in the story. It got a lot of reads quickly and I've made some of my closest friends from writing that story, from people who have reached out to me and I am eternally grateful to them!

Q:  Woah, so you got an inspiration from a person? That sounds interesting!

Being mute doesn't really seem very easy to get around in life. The girl in your story must definitely have some character traits to help her overcome this challenge. Could you share with us some character traits or habits she has?

A: Due to her situation I'd describe her as very empathetic. Sometimes she struggles to be upset with people because many things have gone wrong in her life so it's just as possible that things could be going wrong in theirs. She is very understanding of that.

As for habits I guess she digs her nails into her palms a lot when she's nervous. I'm not sure, that's a bit of a difficult question to answer aha

Q: Hmm...so to put it in other words, she doesn't want to be upset with people as they may have other difficulties in their life. Hope I said that correctly.

Alright, let's move on to your next book, Little Bird. Interesting title, now could you share with us what's behind that title and what the story is all about?

A: The story is about a young girl who was kidnapped when she was little and put into a human trafficking ring. The story begins when she is finally returned to her dad and siblings but she has a lot of trauma and she doesn't remember them.

Q: Woah...seems like a book I'd love to read! Personally, I enjoy reading teen fiction stories with protagonists from dark backgrounds.

Okay, now back to your writing journey. It seems like you enjoy writing mostly teen fiction and romance stories. Hmm...what makes you like to write about that genre?

A: I feel like it's just easier to write about because there are scenarios I can add from my life into them and I enjoy reading those types of books!

Q: Ah same! I like writing Teen fiction stories because I like reading them too. XD

As I checked out your profile, I realised that you've written many books on Wattpad! Do you have any books that you particularly enjoyed writing and why?

A: I really enjoyed writing reticent and currently vehement because most of my other stories are just starting off so since they're carried on from silent as the sequels it gives me the chance to get into it easier because I get to skip all the awkward meetings!

Q: Haha, yes, sequels seem more enjoyable to write about since most of the characters already know each other. Good point!

Now, a writing journey sure has a few setbacks and challenges along the way. Throughout your writing journey, do you have anyone you wish to thank? Such as your family or friends.

A: Yess definitely I've made a lot of friends on this app like @S4SUKE @octopussgy and my friend Mae @Jesus123_

Mae has really been an amazing friend to me because I can talk to her about more than just writing so it's been really great to have her!

Q: Ahh so your friends have helped you along the way! That's awesome!

Throughout this journey of writing, I've realised that you've written quite a few books on Wattpad, and you definitely have so many readers reading your books! What do you think about your current achievements so far? For example, the books you've written and the milestones you've achieved.

A: Ahhh I'm so beyond grateful for the amount of reads my books get, especially Silent because it's just hit 3 MILLION last night! I'm also proud of myself for writing them and honestly so happy I did because of the friends and things it all taught me along the way!

Q: Woah! 3 Million Reads just last night? Congratulations! I'm SO happy for you too! That's such a HUGEEE achievement!

As for your other books, do you have a certain goal for them as well? For example, the number of reads or votes. And, how do you plan to achieve them?

A: Thank you so much!

I definitely have hope for Little Bird and Trapped since they both already have a lot of views and votes with not that many chapters! Obviously everybody wants their books to get millions of reads and ever since Silent I've felt a lot more capable of accomplishing that so I'm hoping those two books get a lot of reads!

As for how I plan to achieve them I just try build a fanbase for my books and everyone in it is so amazing and friendly!

Q: I absolutely love the confidence you have in yourself! It's great to keep a positive mindset, and I'm sure that you will be able to achieve your goals one day.

Well, we're almost ending this interview! Before we end it, I have two more questions for you.

1. Do you have a favourite quote to share with fellow Wattpadians to allow them to continue to strive and be better writers?

2. Would you like to share with striving writers a piece of advice?

A: "Write the kind of story you would like to read. People will give you all sorts of advice about writing, but if you are not writing something you like, no one else will like it either."—Meg Cabot

Also the advice I would give to writers is to do what they want to do in their story. Personally, I'm very influenced by what my readers want and sometimes it sets me on a different course for my story.

Also, not to be too sensitive to what people say. If someone doesn't like a character don't argue with them. I personally hate when people do this since they're not allowing their readers to have an opinion. Unless it's educating them on a matter that is larger than a scene, then just be quiet. If you constantly argue with your readers they're not going to want to read your story.

Q: Aww what a beautiful quote!

And yes, I agree with your advice. Readers are important to us as writers, so we must learn to be gracious and not argue with them because of their opinions.

We've come to the end of our interview. Thank you so much, Isla, for your time! It's been wonderful interviewing you. :)

That's the end of my interview with Isla! :D Hope yall liked it, especially the fans of Isla's books!

Do vote for this chapter if you loved our interview! I'll be having one more interview until I will be stopping for a break.

Thank you! :)
