The Queen was feeling anything but the fair and wise she was stereotypically meant to be. The Silver Wolf had snakes coiling around her stomach, rods prodding into her spine, and someone was definitely ramming a sledgehammer against her skull.
The Priestess of the Moon had bones of iron but they were crumbling.
It was rare sight to see a gleaming silver wolf walk the length of her room, her large belly swaying with each step. Lady Seraphina's paws were thudding against the fluffy carpet as though squishing ants without mercy. She'd no patience today for anyone – not even her mate.
Her mate could feel her agitation and tried to mentally send positive thoughts her way but her only response was a snarl.
My love, are you-
Seraphina cut him off. The Silver wolf grumbled at the thought of any pity or concern for her. The headache was increasing, her stomach was hurting.
Without any warning, she started to sway. Alarm shot through her as she rapidly shifted back into her human form, swivelling her body to protect the baby bump from hitting the fine floor. Her heart started to pound as her iron bones melted. Seraphina's breathing rapidly tried to keep up with the drums of her heart. Placing an elbow behind her, her right hand cupping her swollen belly in pain, her prodded spine started to prickle.
With the bed to her right, Seraphina attempted to climb upon the sponge mattress for comfort but she couldn't get her body off the ground. Her white moon gown glistened, her only garment that appeared after she shifted, and the Priestess of the Moon turned to her Goddess.
On the left of her, beyond the floor to ceiling windows and the wooden balcony resting several stories above the ground guards of the castle, she watched the full moon appear from behind the smoky clouds. The dark night was exceptionally obsidian, the stars and moon brighter than normal.
The Priestess shut her eyes and prayed to her Goddess for the safety of her child. When she opened them, the reflection of the moon didn't hit the windows. The blue-grey eyes of the Queen held the strength of the Moon, the brightness reflecting the glowing orbs between the obsidian like grains of sand dancing on the rocks of the beach.
The Lady of the Wolves' power woke within her to help her. She was weak, couldn't physically protect herself or her child, and the pure rays of the moon within her soul glowed in response. Seraphina tipped her head back against the fluffy carpet and dug deep within her body; her headache increased tenfold. Her fists formed tightly as she felt the rays of the moon under her body.
Breathe.
The bells of the Mother Moon sounded within her ears as Seraphina borrowed the moon rays strength. Her white dress swept around her as the Priestess allowed the rays to push her off the fluffy floor. The curtains for the window fluttered, the doors swung open with the twitch of her eye, and she came down softly onto the plush mattress.
Her headache pounded as water pooled between her legs. Seraphina used a majority of her strength to push herself semi-upright against the grey headboard and gently spread her weak legs.
Breathe.
Mother Moon, please do not leave me now. She responded to her soul mother. Seraphina looked at the bedroom door, knowing that Elliot will come knocking very quickly as soon as she started to push, but this was something that no one but her and her Goddess could witness.
I never have, Seraphina. I never will.
Seraphina took a deep breath as she felt the rays gently rest on her shoulders, as though the Goddess herself was beside her in a vapour of white beams from her home in the sky, and released it in pieces as she stared at her large belly. It was time for the Heir of the Wolves to be born. A small smile, one of fear and excited nerves flickered on the Queen's face as she thought about her unborn child. The thought was long-lived as her Goddess spoke to her again.
Push.
Seraphina clenched tightly and pushed. Physically she was attempting to remove the watermelon shape from her body, but mentally her abilities as a Lady of the Wolves stretched. White light pulsed from her body in rhythmic waves, in time with her own heartbeat, and pressed against the wooden frames of the bedroom. It started to spread towards the floor and ceiling with each pulse as Seraphina let out a groan.
Her fists were against the soft sheets as her muscles grew taut at the pain. Sweat pooled through her golden locks and her silver circlet grew heavy on her head. She felt her Goddess gently remove the circlet with wisp fingers before resting a hand on the back of her neck and over her fist.
Taking another large quick breath, Seraphina screamed as she pushed once again. The glass window shattered at the octave, wind flying the glass daggers towards the birthing Priestess, but a wall of light flared and obliterated the danger before it even got close. The Moon Goddess gently rubbed her arm to comfort her and no matter that her muscles screamed Seraphina welcomed the touch. She welcomed the pain, because she knew that this pain would all be worth it to see her beautiful daughter after all this waiting.
The Queen, even with all her contractions, couldn't block out the sound of her mate banging on the door. The white pulse that rolled from her breaking body forced the door shut, with no chance of being opened, was being rippled by the sheer force that was being slammed against the thin oak.
"SERAPHINA!" Elliot roared as he and others tried to get through the door, but it was no use. The Lady of the Wolves let the tears roll down her cheeks as her little girl pounded her belly to be released into the world.
Her shimmering eyes swept towards her left hand, the one that was being held by the Goddess, after she sensed her movement. Seraphina bore no surprise as the rays coating her hand solidified and the whisper of a touch turned into a comforting clasp. Her eyes took in the form in front of her.
"Luna." She breathed in relief, another tear being shod. The body of the werewolf smiled with her pearly canines glistening. Her dark grey eyes shone at the occasion; the full moon held in the socket of the Goddess's human form. Her human form known as Luna had long black hair that was spun back in a curled arrangement of diamonds, like stars against the night. Her soft curls ran over her marble white shoulders and slithered against a white dress similar to one Seraphina wore. She had full red lips of a blood moon, the only trace of the wrath the Goddess had to those who were against her Priestesses and Priests. Her black brows were arched as her thick lashes framed her beautiful eyes. Her narrow nose seemed to widen her moon orbs as they stared into Seraphina's blue moon ones that so similar to her birth mothers.
While she wasn't there for Seraphina while her pack was massacred by the enemy, Luna was going to be there for her now. A new moon had that effect on their connection but tonight is a full moon. She wasn't going anywhere.
"I'm here." The same melodic voice rung in her ears, one she'd heard all too often in her mind. "Push, my child, push."
Seraphina clutched her Goddess's hand and forced her stomach to shove the little pup out of her body; it was time for her to see the world. Curtains rippled and flew around the bare windows, the wind seemed to want to help push out the baby, the gentle caresses of the wind pushing against her skin.
It seemed like hours, but Lady Seraphina knew it to be minutes. It wasn't long at all for a Priestess to birth a pup, not with the Moon Goddess by her side. Her powerful, unwavering stare held Seraphina's during her birth. The only trace of emotion Seraphina could catch was annoyance at King Elliot hammering against the door.
Just as Seraphina was about to tap into the strength the Goddess had blessed her with as a child, she felt a move within her stomach. The pressure started to build one final time, she knew so, and with all the strength she had left in her body Seraphina gave one last shove. Her high scream blasted the eardrums of all wolves around the castle and a shining orb of moonlight shot out in a sphere from her body and out of the room; the guards couldn't help but turn and look as what looked like a white harmless explosion go off in the King and Queen's room. The wind howled at the same time that the Moon Goddess's eyes flashed iridescent white.
Seraphina started to slow her breathing down as the body of a small pup was heard on the bottom folds of her not-so-white dress. The winds and rays died down as the little cry was heard from the end of the bed. Seraphina attempted to reach for her little girl but she was so exhausted. Luna smiled at her last Priestess and gently stood.
The Goddess stood tall as she moved towards the end of the bed and performed the required incisions for the creation of the belly button lifted up the young pup carefully. Seraphina gasped as she glimpsed her child. She opened her mouth to speak but her voice wasn't working.
The Moon Goddess gently wove the rays of her sky form over the new-born child, creating a threaded white blanket embroidered with crescent moon borders. The excess was removed from her baby as the blanket wrapped around her and Luna looked up at her Priestess.
"She's beautiful." The Goddess whispered with the wind on her tongue. Seraphina shed more tears as her daughter's cries sounded not just in her bedroom, but throughout the castle. The banging from her mate and their joint guards had halted as they heard the cries of their new Heir. Luna's body gently moved towards Seraphina, carrying the little girl, and held her towards her mother.
The Priestess immediately cupped her daughter, so small in her arms, and wept as her eyes lay on her. A miracle, she was. Elliot and Seraphina were not even sure that they could conceive a child after their experimentation but their efforts were rewarded. The Queen looked away from her Princess and towards her Moon.
Thank you. She prayed and Luna smiled.
The darkness cannot stay in someone's life forever, especially not one of my Priestesses. There is always a light, no matter how small. She is yours; your reward for your strength; your patience; your kindness and your strong-mind which lasted all those years in torment. This is what happens when you overcome that; don't thank me. Thank yourself for not giving up.
Seraphina started to cry as she stared down at her beautiful daughter. She could see the silver blonde tendrils shining on top of her head and knew underneath those lids waited the most amazing pair of innocent eyes.
Elliot's eyes...
The Queen looked up to the door where she could smell her mate waiting and her heart yearned for this moment to be shared between them. Luna felt her response, and merely blinked, and the white pulse which once held the door now disappeared. The Goddess gently swung open the door and there was a pause. Seraphina could hear the guards leave besides two, who no doubt stood either side of the door, and heard Elliot's frantic heartbeat.
"E-Elliot?" She whispered as her voice cracked, too weak to call out any louder. Her call worked, because she heard her King take a few steps into the room, and she saw his head from behind the door.
His face was red and tear-stained. His royal blue eyes shining with so many emotions that Seraphina couldn't even begin to translate them into words. His blonde combed hair had been dishevelled, no doubt from anger, and his clothes slightly wrinkled. His knuckles were bloody and his lips were scabbed over... he had tried everything to get down the door.
"E...Ell..." Seraphina tried saying his name but her voice was clogged with exhaustion. While Elliot went to take a step towards his mate and new child, his nose suddenly caught scent of the Goddess who stood next to her, and he halted once again.
Luna's grey eyes were locked tight on the young King. She could see every emotion through his body, read his every thought and smell the sweat and tears he was coated in. She knew exactly what he'd gone through; she herself had seen it over the years with Priestesses mated to non-blessed wolves. The Goddess raised her chin high as she stared down his confused blue eyes, and looked towards her last Priestess. The connection that they had between each other hummed as the Goddess sent one last thought down to Seraphina's mind. When Seraphina's eyes held confusion, Luna merely smiled with a wink, before she fell back into the rays that had descended onto the balcony. She never hit the floor.
Elliot gasped after the black-haired woman with the diamanté crown evaporated into the light. He stumbled slightly before the cry of his child drew him back to sturdy feet. Elliot King's eyes were locked onto the image set before him, of his mate cradling their new-born daughter, and swore that he'd never let this memory leave him no matter what.
Elliot started to cry as well as he gently set himself on the bed, next to his Seraphina, and he gently cupped his daughter's silver blonde head. He could feel, just like when he touches Seraphina, the silver running through her blood. She was untouchable. Elliot kept the realisation to himself as he looked up to his mate.
"Phina..." He whispered lovingly, choking on a sob as they made eye-contact. They both had full-blown smiles on their faces as they held their beautiful creation. "A...A daughter!" Elliot added happily as he let the tear run out of his eye.
Seraphina nodded with a trembling lip. "Our daughter." She agreed with a hoarse voice.
"Princess Celeste Seraphina Xara King."
Just to briefly explain the naming of Princess Celeste! Celeste is from Seraphina's youngest sister, and Seraphina of course from her, and Xara from Elliot's mother who is the former Queen of the Wolves. And King is their human last name :)
