"On the night of the Heir's Celebratory Ball, you assigned Elijah and I to be the charge of the Hunters and Mates Alliance." Thalia reminded, starting from the very beginning. She was gulping down her emotions. The Princess was a mess. Her sister-in-mate sat there and listened to her as she told her tale.
"We'd found a rumoured vampire experimentation house, like the one you were in prior to the zoo." Thalia admitted, noting the cold look Seraphina had on her face. She had only told her brother Elliot, the King of the Wolves and Seraphina's mate, what had happened to her during that time. It took a while, and Elliot had knocked down half the forest in his rage.
"We passed it off as a rumour, but Elijah had found the house it was based off. We waited a few months and then decided to go in." Thalia said, a small smile on her face as she recalled the memory. "Elijah ordered me and the females to stay at the cabin, but I ignored him and led out the girls anyway."
Seraphina let a small smile onto her face at the determination in Thalia. "What did you find?"
Thalia stopped and looked up at the Queen of the Wolves. "We found a young wolf lying on a concrete table." She admitted as her body was rocked with emotions. Seraphina slowly leaned back as her eyes flashed an iridescent blue before calming. The Wolf Lady was a master at keeping her temper; she'd kept it for the entire time she was in the Zoo.
"Elijah carried her out; we weren't sure whether she'd had silver in her or not." Thalia carried on, her brown eyes breaking as the truth came out. "Her name is Raven; she can't be any older than sixteen."
Seraphina trembled as a tumble of emotions rocked her too. While she remained mostly calm, the Priestess was also praying to her Moon Goddess, her Patron that Raven would be okay. She knew exactly what Raven was going through and wished it on none... but a young girl?
"How is she?" The Lady of the Wolves asked, her voice shaking slightly as she started to realise where this was going. It was something that she knew, deep down, that she had feared since she discovered she was with child.
"I don't know." Thalia spoke truthfully. "Raven is just really quiet and when she talks it's with fear.. And the way she looks at us..."
"With a blank stare?" Seraphina interrupted questioningly.
"Yeah..." Thalia was about to ask how she knew, but remembered that the Queen was once in that position. Lady Seraphina knew what Raven was going through... almost.
"I told her about you; that you could help her." The Princess spoke to the Queen. "Like you helped me and Elijah to be together."
"I wouldn't hesitate. She'd be able to touch me, correct?" Queen Seraphina answered, blue eyes listening intently.
"No. She wasn't injected with silver...we don't know what Raven was injected with."
"Has she shifted into her wolf?" Seraphina suddenly asked, wondering if her fur colour had changed.
"I haven't seen her wolf yet; she's too weak." Thalia answered, holding her body closer as the chill from her soaked feet went up her body. "Why?"
"Her fur. Mine changed to the colour of the silver." Seraphina explained. "Maybe hers changed as well."
"We'll feed her up so we can know. Her wolf should be black; she's got bright enough red hair." Thalia pieced together.
Seraphina nodded as she looked solemnly at the Princess. They never wanted this to happen again to anyone. It had happened to the King and the Queen of the Wolves; it's what made them such a strong team. They'd been through something unforgettable which would be told in stories for the younger ages. How they had scraped by the teeth of vampires and came away stronger. Elliot and Seraphina had no weaknesses besides the ones they loved. But their experiences still haunted them; Elliot constantly woke up to Seraphina's screams from nightmares. The thought of what Raven's mate would think passed through her mind.
"That's not even the worst part Seraphina." The brunette said and returned the solemn look. "Raven said she's been suffering from nightmares of her time there..."
"I still do."
"...and that her captive kept saying 'Lady, you won't see what's coming.'" Thalia ignored the interruption as her wolf snarled in anger again.
"You think they speak of me?" Seraphina asked with an eyebrow raised, but a protective hand around her stomach.
"Yes I do." Brown eyes locked with hers as Seraphina let the information sink in. The Priestess of the Moon stared blankly at the Princess before her eyes flashed iridescent blue ferociously. A quiet but clear snarl rumbled out of her throat as her wolf crouched low. The last Priestess of the Moon and Lady of the Wolves, who just so happened to also be their Queen, was a target to a vampire psychopath... and, that meant the child inside of her as well. Seraphina bared her teeth only slightly, Thalia leaning back at her tightly held anger, and knew deep down that this child was going to live no matter what.
The Lady of the Wolves hidden power of the moon emerged as she sought to protect her child. It lay still in her body as she had one thought on her mind.
Protect my child.
"You see why Elijah wanted you to go back to safety." Princess Thalia said, her body trembling at the mention of her mate. Her body was a tumble of emotions; she was horrified for her mates' fear of her and also angry that someone would try to target her sister-in-mate. All Thalia wanted was for Elijah to hold her but he wouldn't dare when he was scared.
"I need to go back to Elliot; he needs to know of this." Seraphina said, snapping Thalia out of her thoughts. The Silver Priestess stood and walked back towards the clearing. "He would know I am gone now; I was meant to be sleeping when I felt your fury."
"You'll run back? Is that healthy?" Thalia questioned, standing to see off the Queen. Seraphina merely smiled, her teeth sparkling white like her shimmering dress.
"I have a few tricks up my sleeve." She replied metaphorically. The Lady of the Wolves hugged her cloak around her body, her bump still sticking out slightly, and turned towards the treeline. Seraphina paused slightly, before turning back to the young Princess. Lady Seraphina could see the pain in her eyes.
"I'll be okay Thalia." She assured. "And you and Elijah will be okay as well. Have faith."
Seraphina turned away with the swish of her cloak and ran into the trees. Her body screamed at the motion but the Queen pushed on. There was no one after her but she didn't want to risk it. She reached deep into herself at the unlocked power of the Priestess and activated it. One minute she was behind a few trees in Thalia's clearing, and next minute she was coming out of the forest outside of her castle home. It was as though Seraphina had just kept running; she barely felt the jump anymore. Her power hummed in her body at its activation, and the Silver Lady buried it once again; she knew she would need it at some point.
The dark blue cloak flew out behind her as she ran towards the entrance. The wolves guarding stood tall with a head bowed at the oncoming Queen. King Elliot had doubled the guards already to protect his pregnant mate; Seraphina knew exactly what he was going to do once he found out that she was a target to a vampire. Part of her was filled with fear. Fear for herself, her child, her mate, for her wolves... but also for Raven. The young girl had no one, like Seraphina did, and the Queen knew that the only way to help her was to remove the threat. They needed to take down the vampire that did this to her... She needed to take down the vampire.
Where is the King? Seraphina spoke to the wolves in their minds, still running towards the doors.
In the Conference Room, My Lady. The guard on the left spoke, eyes low. Do you want me to signal your approach?
No warrior. I shall meet him there. Seraphina thanked the wolf before pushing open the double doors with the force of her hands. Omega's jumped at the sound before halting and bowing low at her presence. Usually Seraphina would assure them to not bow, but she was sprinting up the winding stairs towards the conference room. It was the large hall that sat between the tops of the stairs with golden handles. The Silver Queen gripped the railing tightly as she hauled herself up the stairs. She felt the Omegas' behind her cleaning her footprints and the handle; Seraphina didn't want anyone to get silver on them from her touch, cross-contamination or not. The Priestess of the Moon was exhausted from her journey. A down-side of pregnancy. The emergency power in her body slipped out of her hold and gave her the energy that she needed to get to the conference room doors. A wolf stood in human form as a guard for the doors and frowned at her hurrying feet. "
Lady Seraphina, are you-?" He questioned, stepping forward briefly but the hurrying Queen sidestepped him and pushed open the doors with all her might.
Usually a conference room would hold a table, but this was the Council of Alphas for the King's presence. The conference room had no table; purely for standing with chairs at the walls for their mates or families they brought. When Seraphina barged into the marble-floored room she gained the attention of all eight Alphas and King Elliot; who stood at the top of the circle furthest from her. Usually she'd be closest to the door but her mate had insisted her bed-rest when she was too exhausted to leave the bed this morning. Her cloak rested against her aching back as the eight Alphas bowed low at her presence.
"Lady Seraphina." "Your Majesty." They spoke in unison, one of the Alpha calling her by a nickname known to her for years.
"Seraphina, what's wrong?" Elliot immediately asked, stepping into the circle and towards his exhausted mate hesitantly. Seraphina noted how handsome he looked in his business trousers and blue shirt. It brought out the dark blue of his eyes and how blonde his hair looked. A circlet with a ruby, like her moonstone circlet, rested on his head except his was intricately weaved gold. The King's ocean eyes were filled with worry and panic as he gazed upon Seraphina.
"Elliot..." She spoke, before dropping to her knees. Her magic was running through her body but the exhaustion was something that was a part of her; it was counteracting her weak body and only making things worse. She gulped down her magic as Elliot gripped her arms to prevent her from falling head first on the marble.
"Seraphina, my Moon, what happened?" Elliot spoke a little louder, panic filling his voice. The Alphas around them gasped in panic, the only female Alpha among them calling for help from the warriors outside.
"GET SOME HELP IN HERE! NURSES NOW!" The Alpha of the Silver Pack, Bella Woods, called as her eyes blazed green with determination. While she couldn't touch her adoptive sister, she could call for aid for her. She spotted the wolf guarding outside sprinting for the small doctors' office with a howl.
Elliot wrapped a hand around his mate's back and held her dearly, her body temperature dropping fast. "Seraphina?!" He called, shaking her slightly. The Priestess of the Moon gripped his arm tightly as her eyes flashed iridescent wolf.
"Thalia and Elijah's mission..." She spat out. "What we feared has happened again."
Silence echoed in the conference room as a few snarls echoed in anger but some stood in shock. Some of the Alphas were comforting their Lunas, Luna Carter holding his Bella's hand as she stayed quiet in seething anger.
"The vampires have experimented again..." Elliot pieced together, his eyes shocked. Seraphina nodded as a headache started to pound. She heard the doctors running towards her but she knew she would collapse before their arrival.
"Her name is Raven and her captor is after me; I'm his next target." Seraphina burst out in the last moments of consciousness before she blacked out.
But the Priestess of the Moon saw her mate's eyes turn an incredibly dark blue to match his emerging anger before her own blue moon eyes shut to the world.
