Katies revenge

The apartment was cold and damp, full of shadows cast by the blackness of the night. It was small, quaint but it was just enough for me. My computer sat on my desk untouched since the last time I had used it, which was quite a long time. Brushing off the layer of dust I opened it, greeted by calming start up music. I chuckled quietly to myself, breaking the silence of the bedroom. This was about to be anything but calm.
When I was in college I had taken computer science classes where I learned how computers functioned but I also learned of the treasure chest of information within them. From professional hackers to ordinary citizens anybody can get to it. I love the control, it made me feel powerful.  I could also use it to help me with my quest. That's why I decided to hack into the State of Maines police records.I scrolled through the most recent releases from police custody.

Annabeth Stewart
Released on fraud charges
Don't care
Tony White
Released on 1st degree armed robbery
Still don't care, will never care ever.
Charles Burrow
Released on 1st degree child murder

Now that one caught my eye. I guided my mouse over to his name and skimmed through his personal information. That's when I came upon his mugshot. He looked exactly like the stereotypical killer. Eyes that stared into the depths of your soul that shook you to the core along with what seemed to be permanently set in angry frown. He looked as if he had no remorse for his actions. His age was 46 years old and had a long history of child abuse charges. The girl he had killed had been named Katie Collins. I pulled up another tab and searched her name and clicked images. She was the most beautiful little girl. She gazed at the camera with bright green eyes and wheat gold hair that cascaded down her back paired with enchanting smile. Katie clutched a teddy bear which seemed to be many years old. She looked so much like Julie.
My fists clenched together in anger and my whole body shook with rage. How could he do that, how could he kill an innocent little girl? I pushed the chair back and roughly jumped up. If the police weren't going to punish him I was. No child deserves to die like that. Time to give him a taste of his own medicine.
By the time I had finished packing the car it was already midnight. I didn't mind, this would go better under the cover of darkness anyway. My arsenal included just gloves, a knife and my strength. Just enough for me.
The police records included where he would be staying while on parole. He actually lived just a ten minute drive from my apartment. When I pulled up to his house it was very shabby looking, with foot long grass and weeds covering the garden. The houses next to his had For Sale signs lodged in the lawns. I just no one wanted to live next door to a murderer.
I made my way through the grass while the crickets sang their song creating a calming atmosphere. It was one of those days where nothing was wrong and it was peaceful. Well, not for long.
When I reached the screen door I slipped on my gloves, as not to leave any fingerprints. I concentrated my strength and slowly closed my eyes. Unlock the door, I told myself. Over and over I said it in my mind until I heard the click of the lock opening. When I opened my eyes I placed my hand on the door handle and carefully opened the door.
I was immediately greeted with the musky scent of cigarettes. I wrinkled my nose, I always hated that scent. There was a small hallway that lead into the living room where the buzz of a television could be heard.
I creep my way into the living room where he sat there watching what seemed to be a game show. How could you live with what you did? My steps were quiet as I slowly went up behind him.
All he could get out was a small gasp as I put my hand on his head. Silence him, I told myself, silence him forever. I pushed my anger into him, thinking about what he did to Katie. He was immobilized expect for the convulsions of pain that racked his body. Make him feel pain, make it so he feels what Katie did.
When his body finally slacked, his head rolling onto his chest, my job was almost done. I took deep breaths trying to calm myself. There was two more things I had to do. I grabbed my knife out of its sheath and placed the edge on his bald head. Slowly I began to carve in letters.
K-a-t-I-e-s R-e-v-e-n-g-e
And lastly the three slashes making a claw mark on the back of his neck.
Now he will forever be labeled with her murder, even in death.
