Studying Tips

Hey there everyone! Today I'll be talking to you about studying. When you have a test coming up, it's super important to study so you pass and get good grades! Please, please tell me you study. Anyway, let's get into some studying tips!

Study for 30 minutes at a time.

Your brain can only effectively absorb information for this long. Any longer and your brain will start to not retain information as well.

Break it up - take a break!

Adding on to the last tip, make sure after each thirty-minute time slot, to take a five or ten-minute break. While you are on a break, don't go on your devices. Instead, go outside for some fresh air or grab a snack, or a glass of water!

Sit at a desk.

I can't say this enough - Don't study on your bed! Your bed is reserved for sleeping, and your desk is for studying and working. You will be more productive if you are working at a desk... And you won't have the urge to fall asleep while working!

Make sure you are sleeping well!

If you are not getting good sleep, or going to bed late and waking up early, it is not good for studying. A lack of sleep can make havoc with your memory function. Always make sure to get a good sleep the night before your test/exam too!

Colour-code topics!

Colour-coding important information is proven to be more helpful than writing your notes in a black pen. If you use different coloured pens, it will help you to memorize information faster!

Start studying the minute you know you have a test.

This way, you won't be studying the night before the test and just hoping you pass, barely. I know you might want to put off studying, but making your study notes and beginning to study the day you hear about the test will help you to succeed.

Avoid any distractions.

Turn off your phone and your TV while studying, and only check your social media if you absolutely have to during your break times.  Checking your phone will make your mind wander, and once you go on social media.... You get sucked in.

Listen to music!

Some people say that when studying, listening to music is helpful for them. If you think it won't help you, then you don't have to listen to music.

Make a routine.

When you start to study, make a routine for yourself. 30 minutes study time, 10-minute break, 30 minutes study time, then you are done studying for the day. Making a routine helps you to know when you have to study, so you don't make excuses.

I hope that was helpful! When I was reading through all these different websites to write this, I definitely found some great tips for me to use when studying! Also, let us know if you want any other topics covered in Be Prepared | GPC School Tips!!
