Compliments

In ballet getting a compliment is really good. But usually the compliment isn't what non-dancers would think it would be. They might expect a ballet teacher to say amazing spectacular or wonderful but I have actually rarely maybe even once or twice heard those words uttered in a ballet studio. Ballet is all about improving which means you get a lot of corrections from a good teacher. You're constantly looking in the mirror and saying to yourself what can I do better what do I need to improve on is my turn now do I need to get my passé better do I need to plié more. You are your own harshest critic. It's really hard you are stuck in front of a mirror in a long ballet class with a teacher who is striving to get you to do your very best and you have to be careful not to hurt yourself. When you do finally get a complement don't let it go to your head. Keep working. You can't give up you have to improve improve and improve because that's what ballet is.  It's where you are striving for perfection even though perfection is impossible. Still day after day we're in the studio as dancers working harder pushing ourselves harder harder it's rough but I love it. Looking back I can see that I've improved so much and seeing the improvement is an amazing feeling. I love ballet and that's why when people think it's easy or don't respect it I really get annoyed and can you really blame me? I spend six days a week over 12 hours a week working in the ballet studio and improving myself it's rough but it's really worth it. I don't get why people can't love it but then again I'm biased. Well I hope my little update encouraged you or challenge you today and as always have a great day and just keep dancing.~Mia
