Babysitting
(A/N): Bakugo and Kirishima are, for all intents and purposes, married. Not legally, but they've been living together since high school graduation and are Pro Heros. My guess is they're like, 25? Midoriya and Todoroki are married, with a kid. Uraraka was the surrogate. They used both Todoroki and Midoriya's sperm, so they didn't know until the baby was born which DNA took, but it ended up being Todoroki's, though not both sides of his DNA took (punnet squares and whatnot), and since it was a natural surrogate, the baby has part of Uraraka's traits as well? Anyway, enjoy what happens when I spend too long watching the TikToks of bnha2ndgen.
"Misaki, where are youuu?" Kirishima called through the apartment, in a sing-song voice.
Him and Bakugo had agreed to watch Deku and Shoto's toddler while they were away on a mission, since Ground Zero and Red Riot had fewer shifts for the week, due to the nature of the other's mission. Bakugo had complained slightly at first, but had agreed when he saw the girl didn't look too much like Deku. He had claimed that, 'I refuse to deal with another child like that damn nerd. One was enough, and I still haven't quite gotten rid of him.' Once he saw the girl, however, he quickly changed his mind.
Misaki was absolutely adorable. She had stark white hair, like her father's right side, monochromatic eyes (one brown, one gray), and she had little chubby cheeks that were bright pink. You see, Uraraka had been the boys' surrogate, and they had wanted it done naturally. So, Misaki had some of Uravity's DNA. She was four years old, so she was old enough to walk and talk, and Deku had assured Bakugo that she was potty trained, so diaper changing wouldn't be a problem.
Kirishima had left her in the TV room, where she was watching some kids superhero TV show, while he had run to the store for groceries, letting Bakugo know before he left where she was. Bakugo had nodded, but he had remained in the bedroom to finish up the laundry, though Kirishima had been relieved to see he had left the door open so he could keep an eye on the toddler.
"Misakiiii?" Kirishima called again. Maybe she had gone to the bathroom?
"Oi, Ei, what are you yelling about? Misaki hasn't gotten up since you left." Bakugo emerged from the bedroom, and his eyes fell on the empty living room floor.
"Ei, where's the kid? Please tell me you took her for a play date with Pikachu's kid."
"Kat, are you fucking kidding me. I told you I left her in here. How- how the hell do you lose a TODDLER?! YOU'RE A PRO HERO!" Kirishima usually doesn't yell at Bakugo, but he was in panic mode. They lost Deku and Todoroki's baby girl. How? HOW?!
"Okay, Ei. Calm down. She couldn't have left the apartment, right? She can't reach any of the doors or the windows, and they were all locked. She has to be here somewhere. Let's take a look around." Bakugo went over to where she had been sitting, and evaluated what her options had been, then took off towards the kitchen, glancing around then calling, " Not in here!" Kirishima did the same thing, starting with the bathroom. Misaki wasn't there, either.
After about an hour and a half of searching, Bakugo was in panic mode as well. He was cursing the fact that he had wanted such a large apartment for two people living there. His reasoning had been so they could have something closer to their own house, and extra bedrooms for a training room and a guest room. And he needed the extra kitchen space, because he'd be damned if he didn't keep them both in a balanced diet. As Pro Heros, they needed to keep their health in check.
Now, however, it was beginning to irritate him. There were so many small spaces down low that a toddler could hide, and she was being deafeningly silent.
Another half hour passed, and Kirishima's phone rang.
"Hello?"
"Hey, Kirishima! Just checking in on how things are going! Is Misaki doing okay? She can have some pretty severe separation anxiety sometimes…" Deku's voice trailed off. Kirishima snapped in Bakugo's direction to get his attention, then had put the Pro Hero on speaker. His eyes were wide, asking Bakugo an unspoken question.
'What do we tell them?'
Bakugo shrugged in alarm, his eyes seemingly telling Kirishima, 'I don't fucking know, handle it!'
"Uh, ye-yeah! Everything is just fine!" Kirishima exclaimed. It would have been a fine answer, except Deku's next question made it impossible.
"Oh, I'm so glad! Can you out her on? Tell her that her Daddy's want to say hi!" Kirishima shoved the phone at Bakugo, shaking his head violently. Bakugo shook his head even more violently, trying to shove the phone back at Kirishima.
"Kirishima? You there? Is everything okay?" Came Todoroki's voice on the other end of the line. Bakugo snatched the phone.
"Yes. Jesus christ. Everything is fine. She's just… in the bath. Wouldn't want to drop my phone in the water. Maybe I can put her on the phone tomorrow when you dweebs call, since I think you two are the ones with the separation anxiety. Don't worry, Uncle Katsuki and Uncle Eijiro have everything under control. Now go shower, eat, and sleep! I know you nerds fucking just got off your shift and are probably collapsed on the hotel bed all dirty in your hero uniforms because you were too worried about Misaki to shower and eat before you called."
"Aha, oh Kacchan. You know us so well. Anyway, if you're sure you two don't need anything-"
"We don't." The pair said in unison.
"-then tell Misaki that Daddy's say hi, and that we'll be back before she knows it."
"Will do, bye shitty nerd." Bakugo hung up before Deku could even reply. He glanced up, and Kirishima looked absolutely mortified.
"Kat, we have got to find Misaki." He all but whispered.
"Well, no shit! I thought we would just leave her miss-" he cut off his sentence, the looked behind Kirishima.
"Is that fucking snow on top of the fridge?" Kirishima's head snapped to look at the fridge.
There was, indeed, a layer of snow on the fridge.
"Maybe…maybe the freezer needs defrosted?" Kirishima suggested. Bakugo shook his head, with a glint in his eyes.
"That little brat got fucking IcyHot's quirk. Her quirk came in." Bakugo said, almost in amazing, but mostly irritation.
"O-kay? But why is it on the frid-"
"Uraraka. She can fucking float. Goddammit. Hand me a fucking chair."
Kirishima slid a chair from their kitchen table over to the fridge, and Bakugo carefully climbed up onto it, peering into the small space between the top of the fridge and the bottom of the cabinet.
There, pressed all the way back against the dusty wall, was a sleeping Misaki, covered in snow.
"Oh that fucking All Might. Ei, she's here. She fell asleep. She must have floated herself up here, and couldn't figure out how to get down." Kirishima watched as Bakugo went to wake up the small child.
"Hey, Misaki…" Bakugo cood, "Time to wake uppp."
"Uncle Kat?" Misaki said, sleepily, blinking at the blond.
"Yeah, baby, why don't we get you down from here, and get you in the bath. It's dusty up here…" He was speaking softer than Kirishima had ever heard him speak, and Kirishima felt his heart swell at how he was handling the toddler.
'Kat would make such a good father…' he found himself thinking, and smiled at the back of his partner's head at the scene unfolding before him.
"Uncle Kat, something happened!" Misaki exclaimed, fully awake now.
"Yeah, honey, Uncle Kat can see that. You wanna tell Uncle Kat and Uncle Eiji what happened?" She nodded eagerly.
"I was happy at something on TV and when I clapped my hands I started flying! I couldn't land on the floor but I landed here! I was up here for a while and I got scared and when I got scared, it started snowing, which scared me more… I thought you would be mad that I was on top of the fridge, so I didn't call out…" she sniffled, eyes filling with tears. Kirishima watched as Bakugo scooped the girl into his arms, Misaki wrapping her arms around his neck and her legs around his hips, crying into his shoulder. Bakugo rubbed the girls back.
"It's okay, Misaki. Sh, it'll be okay. What happened to you is completely normal. I'm so sorry you were scared. You should have called for me. I wouldn't be mad at you. Next time call for help, yeah? You had Uncle Eiji and I worried sick…" she just nodded, snot and tears running onto Bakugo's shoulder through his black tank top.
"Hey, babe?" Kirishima called softly.
"Yeah, what's up, Ei?" Bakugo replied, over Misaki's shoulder.
"We should ah, we should call them back and tell them about her quirk…"
Bakugo sighed, then nodded. Kirishima fished his phone out of his pocket, and dialed Deku's number, putting the phone on speaker before he could pick up.
"Oh my God, what's wrong? Is she okay? What's happening? Kacchan, I'll kill y-"
"Babe, calm down. I'm sure they meant it when they said Misaki was in the bath. They didn't lose our daughter… You didn't lose our daughter, right? Izuku's been freaking out since the phone call. He's convinced because you wouldn't put Misaki on the phone that you misplaced her somehow."
Kirishima was startled, and looked at Bakugo, who just shrugged.
"Okay, so we did misplace her, b-"
"I KNEW IT. Oh my God, Shoto, we have to leave right now. Screw the mission. I knew we should have left her with Auntie Ashido…"
"Daddy?" Misaki spoke up, looking at the phone. Bakugo chuckled.
"You wanna talk to Daddy's?" He asked, and she nodded vigorously, stretching her hands towards the phone. Kirishima handed it over to her.
"Daddy! You'll never guess what happened! I can FLY! And it SNOWS!" She squealed into the phone. She looked so excited. The line was silent on the other end for a about three whole seconds before Kirishima heard Todoroki chuckle. Then, Deku's exaggerated sigh if relief, followed by laughter. Bakugo would put money on the fact that the damn nerd was also crying on the other end.
"She got her quirk?!" Deku squealed, sounding much like his daughter.
"Ah, I see. You misplaced her because she floated away, and you were looking down low. That's, strangely amusing." Came Todoroki's voice, sounding thoroughly amused.
"Wait.. that means we missed her first quirk use!" Deku sounded upset. Kirishima grimaced.
"Sorry, man! But hey, at least you guys don't have snow in your apartment at the moment..." he trailed off, looking over to where Misaki was currently sitting on the table, snow flurries surrounding her.
Bakugo suddenly snatched the phone and hung up.
"Dude, what the hel-" Kirishima started, but was cut off when Kirishima noticed Bakugo starting a face time call. It was answered almost immediately by Todoroki and Deku.
"Daddy's!" Misaki squealed, causing more snow to flutter around her head. Kirishima watched as both Deku and Todoroki broke out in a wide grin.
"Oh, sweetheart, that's amazing!" Deku exclaimed.
"Daddy can make it snow too, see?" Todoroki had activated his quirk, allowing little snow flurries to fall from his right side.
"I'm just like Daddy!" Misaki squealed. Bakugo chuckled.
"See? Now you've seen her quirk, and you know shes safe. Can I give her a bath and put her to bed now? It's late, and she has got to be more exhausted than she realizes from using her quirk this much ready."
"Oh, yeah. Thanks Kacchan. I'm sorry for doubting you…" Deku said, looking almost ashamed.
"I'm not. Don't lose her again, or I'll kill you." Todoroki said. He was smiling, but his eyes were squinted at Bakugo, and Bakugo knew he was serious.
"Seriously? I would never let anything harm this child." Bakugo snapped. Kirishima took the phone.
"I promise it won't happen again. Now that we know to watch her for quirk usage, we won't let it happen. Now go sleep, you guys look beat." Deku and Todoroki nodded, ending the call.
Kirishima laid his phone on the counter, then made his way down the hall where he heard Bakugo biting back curses.
"Ei, I need…help." Kirishima began to panic again. Bakugo never asked for help. But once he got to the bathroom, he chuckled.
The bathwater was frozen, Misaki sitting on top of the sheet of ice, giggling.
"I'm just.. Todoroki can melt it. She has no fire!" He exclaimed in exasperation. Kirishima chuckled.
"Maybe we just wipe her down with a washcloth for now, and put her to bed? We can let the tub thaw overnight, and she'll be more calm in the morning, and might not accidentally freeze the bath water." Kirishima suggested, ready moving to get a wash cloth from the cabinet and running it under the sink faucet. Bakugo sighed, but nodded. He stepped to the side, allowing Kirishima to wipe down the toddler as best he could. She wiggled a lot. Bakugo left Kirishima in the bathroom while he made his way to go clean up the kitchen and put the rest of the groceries away from that afternoon. Soon, he heard Kirishima talking to Misaki in the hall.
"Alright, baby, it's time for bed! Go say goodnight to Uncle Kat!" Bakugo heard little foot steps approach him, and he turned to say goodnight to his niece, only to stop in his tracks.
She was wearing an oversized, worn out Ground Zero tshirt that was so big on her, it came down to her shins. The tshirt was black, and had a faded green grenade on it, with "Ground Zero" written in the shape of the grenade. She was clutching a bright yellow blanket that had lightening bolts on it, and Bakugo instantly recognized it as a Chargebolt themed blanket, dragging it behind her as she sleepily marched towards him to say goodnight. Kaminari had insisted on baby merch after him and Jiro had had their twins. Of course Misaki would have a blanket that was from Uncle Kami.
"She insisted on wearing one of Uncle Kat's tshirts…" Kirishima said, watching his reaction as he leaned up against the wall of the hallway.
Bakugo felt his heart swell at the sight. That was the moment he realized he would literally die for this child, whether she was that half-and-half bastard and that shitty nerd's daughter or not.
She marched right up to his feet, and looked up to him, her white hair still damp from the makeshift bath she had been given.
"G'night Uncle Kat!" She attempted to say, around a yawn. Bakugo bent over and picked her up.
"C'mon little hero, let's get you to beddy-by." He held her close, as he made his way to the guest bedroom that had been made up for her. Once the light was out, and she was tucked in (though, there had been a bit of a situation with him forgetting to plug in the All Might themed night light that had been packed for her), he made his way back out to the living room, only to see the most sickeningly soft look on his partners face, looking up at him.
"What's your problem, Ei?" He huffed, sitting down beside him.
"You would make a great dad." Kirishima replied, without hesitation.
He felt Bakugo tense up, but both of them were too tired to argue or discuss this at the moment. They could discuss it once Misaki went back home. It wasn't a pressing matter. Bakugo relaxed into Kirishima's side, both of them dozing off on the couch until Bakugo woke them both up to make their way to the bed.
As soon as their heads hit the pillow, they heard the door creak open, and the padding of little footsteps coming up to the bed.
"Uncle Kat…" Misaki whispered, sniffling, "I had a nightmare…" Bakugo sighed, and pulled the girl into bed with them, where she wasted no time curling between the two men, and falling fast asleep.
Yep, Bakugo would die for this girl.
But it was also going to be one hell of a long two weeks.
