The Lack Of Parties And Abundance In Attacks
Azure's POV
The city of Thaymor was adorable. It looked like a festival was going on. Kids ran around the streets with streamers, while couples danced. Made myself presentable by whipping my face and running my hands though my wild tangle of hair. Adora was watching from the tree line with us, and Glimmer pulled her back.
"Okay, the jacket comes off." She said, and Adora reeled.
"What, Why?" Glimmer narrowed her eyes at this and explained.
"Because if the villagers see a Horde soldier, they'll freak out. So, we have to fix... all this." She said looking Adora over.
Hesitantly Adora gave Glimmer the jacket, and Glimmer took off her own cloak, and wrapped it around Adora. She looked down at herself and muttered.
"I look ridiculous." She said, and I snorted.
"That's because you need something to tie it together." Bow said grabbing a pink flower from the vines around and placed it behind her ear.
"I don't like it." She said with a shudder.
"The point is you don't look like a Horde soldier anymore. Just try to keep a low profile. We'll be in, and out." Glimmer said leading us in.
Petra, and I stuck with the group, but where able to look around the shops, at the same time. One shop was selling totems, and dream catchers. Petra found a wolf totem with rubies embedded in for eyes.
"How much is this?" she asked the shopkeeper, who was a young man. He smiled as he bent down to examine it.
"Three gold pieces." He said, and Petra emptied her pockets, only finding two coins.
I reached into my own pocket and found two silvers. I handed them over, and the man allowed Petra to take the totem.
"An Alpha who's ran out of silvers?" She asked, and I swatted at her playfully.
"An Alpha who's out of energy." I helped clasp the totem around Petra's neck, and we walked back to Glimmer, Bow, and Adora.
"Where have you two been?" Glimmer asked with a smile. Petra held up the totem and shrugged.
"Shopping."
After the exchange we walked around, swing the festival in full swing.
"What is this?" Adora asked looking around, and Bow smiled.
"A festival, it's like a big party." Adora just stared blankly. Bow stopped in his tracks and whispered.
"They don't have parties in the Fright Zone?" He asked, and Adora blushed a little.
"Oh yeah, Parties! I mean, pfft, of course- I don't know what those are." She said, and Bow whimpered in sympathy.
Then turning to us he pointed, most likely asking the same question.
"Haven't been to a party in... a really long time..." Petra answered, and I nodded. Glimmer walked back to us and scowled.
"Did you even hear what I said? In, and out Bow!" Glimmer hissed.
"She has never been to a party before Glimmer. This is serious." He whispered with urgency. I rolled my eyes and looked at Petra.
"More serious than the current war?" She asked, and I shrugged.
"I can't even remember my last party." She said, and I elbowed her playfully.
"Oh, come on... it was a yule ball. We were too young to go, but we watched. I remember mom had that big pink ball gown." I sighed, and Petra nodded.
"Yeah, it looked like cake frosting. Cosmo sneaked us some cinnamon rolls." Petra added.
Bow dragged Adora through the festival. Taking her to a food stand first, Bow purchased a strange type of food. Adora tasted it cautiously before she began devouring it. Glimmer looked sympathetic for a split second before we moved on. There was a feast with dancers, and musicians. Bow, Adora, and Glimmer ate with us until a sing started playing that sounded so familiar that Petra looked at me with a wide grin. Grabbing her hands, we ran into the dance, and swung ourselves around in the rhythm. Favoring my ankle, I still danced with Petra smiling, and laughing the whole song.
When we were done, we swung our arms around each other and walked back over to the others.
"I didn't know wolves could dance like that." Adora said, and I shrugged, not taking offense.
"It's a past time." Petra said waving her hand, and I bumped her with my shoulder.
After we moved on, I watched a group of kids whacking a piñata. A child ran over to Adora and gave her the bat. Petra beckoned Adora to come with her. Petra stood on one side while Adora swung the back. It cracked, and swung towards Petra, who wound up, and kicked it. The piñata broke open, and spilled itself across the grass, and the children ran forward grabbing all the treats they could. I clapped as Petra swung her arm over Adora's shoulder and pumped her fist.
In an hour since then Adora was watching a hand puppet show. A man fixed his hands in an eagle shape and fluttered it about. I watched from my spot laying in the shade, munching on an apple with Petra. I watched as Glimmer made her way over to Adora who watched the show from behind a tree. She was in such awe that Glimmer's face softened, and he leaned further down on the branch from Adora. At least Glimmer was making an effort now. I lay my head in my arms and watched until the show was over.
Bow, and Adora where munching on cotton candy, and small, candy sours while Petra, and I used the new materials we bought to make a better splint.
"I can't believe you danced like this." She chuckled, and I shrugged.
"It feels lodes better, and I'm taking advantage of it.
"So seriously, no parties ever? What do you do on your birthdays?" Bow asked, and I rolled my eyes.
The Horde was bent on destroying Etheria, and Bow assumes they have parties? To prove my point Adora cocked her head and examined the candy.
"Huh?" Bow's mouth dropped.
"No Birthdays?! How is your life this sad?"
With a gasp Adora dropped the candy and pointed.
"What. Is. That?" She asked staring off.
I looked over, and saw a horse, its maroon main flowing in the wind as I tossed its head.
"That... would be a horse." How said, but Adora never looked away.
"It's majestic." She oohed.
Bow smirked at me, then put a hand on Adora's shoulder.
"Want to go meet him?" Bow said pushing her forward.
"What? No!" She whined nervously as Bow walked her up to the horse.
Adora kept her eyes shut the whole time.
"Come on, it's okay. See? He likes you." Bow said as he placed Adora's hand on its muzzle.
She opened her eyes, and stared at her hand, and the horse then gasped.
"This is the best day of my life." She said.
I stood up and walked over, stepping carefully on my right ankle.
"Hey cutie." I cooed, and the horse sniffed me.
I saw Adora looking at me through my peripheral. She was confused, I could tell.
"Why are you out here?" She blurted, and I cocked my head at her.
"I mean... I thought wolves stayed hidden. That they did not care who won. The Horde said the city of Soles was going to form an alliance with us, then their rune stone could overpower-" I shook my head before she could finish with a chuckle.
"You got one thing right we do stay hidden. Because the Horde killed lodes of us... Soles was taken down a month or two ago by The Horde. They were looking for said rune stone, but... Wolves don't have Rune stones though." I said, and Adora looked away.
"Oh..." I nodded, and looked back at Petra talking to Glimmer, and Bow before looking at Adora again.
"Have you ever heard of the city Lupin?" I asked, and she nodded.
"Well... I lived there, until it was destroyed. I lost my father, to that attack, along with my brother. My younger twin sisters, and mother died when our waters where poisoned. But now someone told me I can't just run away from this; I have to protect the family I have left."
Adora nodded, and I placed a hand on her shoulder.
"Thanks for being a good person." She looked at me and nodded.
A rumble shook the ground, and I looked up, smoke rose farther down the festival, and people began to scream. I snarled, and ran up to join the others, Adora on my tail.
"What's going on?" Bow asked, and Petra looked at me.
"Come on." We ran towards the chaos, and the smoke blocked out the sun.
What once was colorful, and bright, was now grey, and horrible. Bots shot at the buildings around, and people screamed.
"It's the Horde!" Glimmer shouted pulling us into a house that had been broken and burnt.
A skiff drove past us, and I recognized some of the people's voices, I had heard them when we escaped the town a while back.
"Why are they here?" Petra snarled.
"The people of Thaymor aren't a threat." I could feel the panic radiating off Adora and watched her closely.
"Wait, did you say Thaymor? This can't be Thaymor." She said frantically looking around.
She knew this might happen, but not here, not like this.
"Did you know something about this?" Glimmer snapped.
"No- I mean yes, but there's been a mistake. Thaymor is supposed to be a heavily fortified rebel fortress, not a civilian town!" Adora said, and Glimmer grabbed her hand, pulling her into the streets to show her the destruction.
"Do you really think that matters to them?"
The place was on fire, and people where no longer in this part of town.
"I can get them to stop, this is a big mistake I just need to talk to them. Get as many people out as you can, and don't let them see you." She said taking off Glimmer's cloak, and starring into the fire, before glancing over her shoulder at us.
"I'm sorry." She said, and I looked at them.
"Youheard her. Let's go." I said, and we bolted in different directions...
