Chapter 2 - SPIDER!
I walked the halls with confidence, or, rather skipped happily. I was so happy about getting a new mission that I didn't notice the stares the people gave me.
As I reached the door I took a deep breath and wiped the smile of my face, a serious mask now slipping on. Quiet as a ninja, I stealthily opened the door without a sound and slipped inside, closing it just as graceful.
I turned around with my hands behind my back and looked around the office. It was pretty big and looked more like a mixture between a training room and office, with weights and a big heavy punching bag at one side of the room, but a desk and a book shelf on the other. My eyes met Seth's who sat behind his big wooden desk in the middle of the room.
Seth was a man in his early thirties and he didn't look that bad to be honest. He was well built with large shoulders and muscles; the outcome of a lot of training and using his body much. His hair was still black and his hairline hadn't moved, but it was cut short in a military style to be more expedient. Right now, his hard steel grey eyes were trained on me and I looked at the desk instead to avoid contact and show respect.
"Cleo," Seth said and stood up. I looked up and saw him smile, so I of course smiled back, loosing the strict posture.
"Seth," I told him in the same voice he used on me. "So, how did the match go yesterday? I hope you showed him!"
Seth threw his head back and his booming laugh filled the office. "You bet I did!" He chuckled. "That boy ain't gonna show up here for a while."
We were talking about Jonas, an arrogant prick who'd challenged Seth on a boxing match. Evidently, Seth won. Not that I had expected anything else, Seth was a master in everything that had with fighting to do.
Anyone could challenge anyone at the agency and the challenged could of course say no, but that rarely happened (no one wanted to look like a coward).
Not many challenged Seth and those who did, didn't live to tell the tale. Okay, I'm joking. But, we probably wouldn't hear from him for a while, because of the humiliation of thinking he could take on the master of the academy.
I suddenly remembered why I was here and sat down in one of the two fancy chairs in front of the desk.
Seth cleared his throat and sat down he to, clasping his hands together before him on the table in a more business-like way.
"So, I have called you here regarding-", he didn't get to finish the sentence before I interrupted him excitingly.
"A new mission?" I said and leaned forward, holding the arms on the chair. "What am I going to do this time!"
"Cleo-"
"When do I start? Do I get to steal?" I rambled to fast for him to answer. "Am I going undercover?"
I paused and sucked in a deep breath. I took a hold of the table eagerly and waited for him to speak. He was taking so much time and I wondered why he didn't answer my questions.
Seth stared at me with his steel gaze and I turned uncomfortably in my chair. He shook his head and sighed.
"Cleo," he started and I nodded, listening closely and staring at him like a hawk.
"It's not a mission," he said hesitantly but his stare never wavered.
I frowned but let him continue explaining further.
"It's more like..." Seth got quiet as he thought about it. He cleared his throath and leaned forward, placing his hands clasped together before him, a serious look on his face. "Look at it as a chance to get more experience. You know," he waved his hand in a dismissing way and leaned back in an attempt to look more relaxed. "Learning to blend in with the crowd and not... well, act like you do now."
I frowned hard at this. "What do you mean, 'act like I do now'?"
"Well..." Seth started carefully, trying to chose his words with caution. "You know..." he didn't continue but looked at me as if I would know, doing a rolling gesture with his hands.
"No I don't," I told him and shook my head, throughfully confused.
"Sometimes, you can be a little..." he hesitated.
"A little what?" I pressed, getting frustrated by him for not finishing his sentences.
"Sometimes you act a bit different..." Seth tried to express.
He grimaced and put a hand over his face, clearly frustrated, clasping them before him in a way that almost made it look like he was praying (which was weird, because I knew for a fact that Seth wasn't really the religious type).
He looked at me again and sighed, pinching his nose.
"What I'm trying to say is that this will help you blend in and learn more about... humanity," he finally said and I scrunched my eyebrows.
"So what am I going to do?" I asked intrigued.
The way Seth was acting made me a little worried and I doubted I would like his next words.
"Cleo..." Seth started and winced as if he thought about what would come next. Now I was really worried, what was it that he would have me do that could be so horrible that he feared to even tell me?
Kill a child? Draw some kind of attention to myself? Watch over some spoiled kid? Fake my own death and run of to some faraway country all alone? Quit the academy and become homeless? Or maybe- no, I couldn't even think about it. I dreaded his next words and sat still with tensed shoulders, preparing myself for the blow.
"You're..." Seth began, "going to..."
He didn't get any longer as I interrupted him by screaming "SPIDER!" and jumped up on my chair so I was standing on it.
Seth flew up from his chair to and we both sprung on the table, hugging each other.
"Where!?"
"Kill it! KILL IT NOW!"
"We're going to die!"
I'm not sure who screamed the most but in the end, we both sat traumatised in respective chair, staring at the spot of dust that laid on his wooden table, as if mocking us.
It wasn't I spider I'd spotted, put some dust that flew over the table and made it look like a moving spider.
"We will never speak of this again," Seth met my gaze and we both nodded, making a silent deal.
I snapped out of the glaring match we had with the dust and looked at Seth again.
"What were you going to say before?"
Seth looked at me and as he said the words, it was as if the world slowed down and zoomed in on his mouth in the really dramatic way you see in movies.
"You're going to high school."
End of story.
Or it should had been, as my life was offically over and there wouldn't be much for you to read.
However, you'll have to read the next chapter to find out if I really die or not.
Stay put, peasant's!
I'll try to update as soon as I can.
So, see you in a month or so, when the next chapter comes out (Just joking. Kind of. I think?..)
*Rubbing hand's together in an evil way and smiling deviously, while laughing like a villain*
I've got the power!

(Sorry for any potential grammar or spelling mistakes, I personally blame it on my brother because... well, he's annoying.)
