Definition: When the reader or audience knows more than the characters in the book/play

We learned about dramatic irony in English and it's one of the literary devices. We're suppposed to know about this but it wasn't really on my exam

So then rileymyhart (Rowan) and I were talking about someone in our school who's pretending to be emo and stuff (but that person isn't emo)

Then she started ranting about how fake she's being to everyone, even her best friend and she's fake to even me and Rowan

Then Rowan mentioned how the person knows that she's pretending to be emo and whatnot, but at the same time, we know that she's pretending but she doesn't know that we know about it

And I was like: That, my friend, is an obvious example of dramatic irony.

The funny thing is, that we all had our English exams today.
