TWO
"ELLE!"
"What?"
"You haven't came round in ages! I miss you! Harry's out hunting for horcruxes and I'm all alone!"
"Dad, you know how things have been."
"That's no excuse not to come see your father!"
"Alright, alright, I'll come over more often."
"Great."
"Did you just come here to yell at me?"
"No...."
"You know you could always come around here."
I had been watching a movie while Fred was out getting us lunch when my father came busting in, yelling. I had finally got Fred to make George's old room our new stock room, so the boxes had finally been moved. I was enjoying being able to watch TV again.
I looked my father up and down, taking in his appearance. His hair was long, like way too long. There were dark circles under his eyes and he seemed to have more wrinkles than the last time I seen him. It didn't affect his outgoing personality, which made me smile internally.
"Dad, can I cut your hair?"
"What? Why?" He asked, mocking horror and looking genuinely taken aback.
"Because it's longer than it normally is and even that is too long!"
"You are not cutting my hair."
"Please?"
"No."
"Pleeeaaaase?" I asked, dragging out the middle of the word.
Dad looked into my eyes and sighed. "Fine! But no shorter than normal."
I grinned. "Awesome!"
I pulled a chair from our table into the middle of the dining room- which was still a small part of our living room- and got the scissors from the kitchen. I'm going to have to have Fred enlarge the kitchen so we move the table in there instead. Wait, I'm a brilliant witch, I can do it myself!
"Sit." I said, swinging the towel I was going to put over Dad's shoulders.
He hesitated, but sat down nonetheless.
I sighed. "Dad, I'm a healer and you don't trust me with your hair?"
He puffed out his chest. "I don't trust anyone with my hair."
I draped the towel over his shoulders and started cutting.
I was about half way done when Fred walked in.
"I'm home, love!" He yelled as he shut the door.
He walked into the dining room and saw me with scissors in one hand and a smile on my face and my dad with a horrified look on his face. I'm sure it looked like a cheesy horror movie; with me the psychopath and Dady victim.
"What's going on here?" He asked with a smile playing on his lips.
"I'm cutting Dad's hair," I replied cheerfully.
"Why are you cutting Sirius's hair?"
"Have you seen it? It was getting way too long!"
Fred sighed. "Do you want to stay for dinner, Sirius? I bought extra food."
Dad looked at Fred happily. "Of course. Thank you for asking, Fred."
At least they're getting along. That's really all I have to say about that.
I sighed as I made one last cut. "There. All done."
Fred looked Dad over. "Looks good, love."
I grinned triumphantly. "See Dad? It looks good!"
It really did. It looked like normal. I honestly figured I would've butchered his hair so it's a miracle I didn't.
I waved my wand and cleaned all the hair up. I put the towel in the washer and the scissors up.
I then went about setting the table while Dad and Fred went into the living room, talking about quidditch, of all things. I mean, we're in the middle of a war here and they're talking about quidditch!
Once the table was set and the food was in the middle of the table, I called the boys in.
I took my normal seat. Dad went around me and as he did he bent down and whispered in my ear, "He's a good man, Elle."
I smiled to myself as Fred took his seat across from me.
He smirked at me, making the butterflies I still get in my stomach when he's around go crazy. I shook my head, as if to physically shake the butterflies away. It didn't work, unfortunately.
I glanced out of the corner of my eye to see Dad smirking at me and Fred.
I looked at both boys. I swear, both of them love to see me flustered. "What are you waiting for? Eat!"
For the first half of the meal we talked about normal things such as the shop and what we'd been doing. Then Dad said, "I just got told this morning that Harry is at Shell Cottage."
I dropped my fork. "What? Can we go see him?"
"I was planning on going there to see him tomorrow. If you and Fred want to come along, you can."
"Count me in! What about you, Fred?"
"Of course I'm coming."
I smiled. "Sounds good."
After that, dinner passed smoothly. Dad and Fred went back in the living room as I cleaned up. I sat the dishes in the sink for Fred to do after Dad left, since we traded turns doing the dishes and it was his turn.
I stepped into the living room and Dad stood up.
"I have to go. I'll see you later Fred," he said as he came over to me.
He wrapped me in a hug. "I'll see you tomorrow. I love you."
I smiled and kissed his cheek. "Yeah. I love you too, Dad. Be careful getting home."
He nodded. "I will be, don't worry. Besides, Death Eaters don't come near my house often."
"I know, but still."
Dad kissed my forehead and apparated out.
I sat down beside Fred. "I think your dad likes me," Fred said.
"He does. What's not to like anyway?" I responded.
He chuckled. "That's true."
I smiled.
"I'm going to go do the dishes. Go ahead and pick out a movie."
I smiled softly as I got up to look at what movies we had.
Finally deciding on one, I put it in the DVD player and sat down on the couch just as Fred came back in.
"That was quick," I said.
He shrugged. "I wanted to get back in here to you."
I smiled as I curled into his side and the movie started.
At least some things are still normal.
