The Storm
(Okay, long one people. Hope you enjoy!)
So, after the whole ordeal with Jet, things had been... less than ideal. Especially when we stumbled upon two tribes that could not, FOR THE LOVE OF EVERYTHING, get along. The reason why was because-oh who gives a darn? But in the end, Aang lied about how their ancestors were siblings and when they were young played a game that involved a ball. Oh, and there were giant ants that we used to get out of a canyon.
I jump awake as I felt something jump on me. I sit up and look around, knife in hand. "Did we get captured again?" I look to my right to see Sokka with his knife and boomerang. "It's nothing. I just had a bad dream. Go back to sleep." Aang says, I look over to find him curl up. "You don't have to tell me twice." Sokka lies back down, but I keep my gaze on Aang. "Are you all right, Aang?" Katara asks him. "I'm ok." He's not okay with that tone. "You seem to be having a lot of nightmares lately. You want to tell me about it?" "I think I just need some rest." I think he needs to have a talk. "You guys want to hear about my dream?" I make an annoyed face as Sokka sits back up. "No. Sleep." "Gah!" I push Sokka down. "That's ok. I didn't want to talk about it anyway." He says. Katara then lies down and I do too.
I then see the two people again. My parents. I try to walk to them but right as I was about to touch the woman's shoulder, "(Y/N)! Wake up!" I jump awake and tackle the person who shouted. "Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! It's me!" I look to find that I had tackled Sokka. "Oops. Sorry." I apologize and get off him as I stand up. "Geez, do you have to tackle so hard?" He complains. I help him up then look to Katara and Aang looking at me with worried looks. "What?" I ask them. "Nothing. It's just that, you weren't waking up and we were worried something was wrong." Katara says. I sigh and stretch my arms, interlocking my hands above my head. "I guess I was more tired than I thought." I reply.
"Well, we packed up your weapons and other supplies. We were waiting for you to wake up so we can get going. The skies are looking pretty clear so it should be smooth flying." Aang says. I lower my arms as I look up at the sky. "Yeah. Though, we'd better smoothly fly ourselves to a market, because we're out of food." Katara says. I look over to her and see that she holds an empty bag. "Guys, wait. This was in my dream. We shouldn't go to the market." Sokka then says all of a sudden. "What happened in your dream?" Katara asks him. "Food eats people!" Really? I give him a 'really' look. "Also, Momo could talk. You said some very unkind things." Sokka says to Momo with crossed arms, who was standing at his feet. Momo lowered his ears at what he said. I rolled my eyes and bend down to pick up Momo. "I think you forget that not all dreams come true." I tell him, standing straight.
Momo climbs up to rest on my head as I quickly roll up my sleeping bag and walk up Appa's tail with Katara to get in the saddle. (Momo is our little buddy while Appa is our big boy.) "Hey, you never know. We dealt with spirits." I hear Sokka defend. "Yeah, yeah. And besides, you would eat people-eating food anyway." I counter. It was quiet for a moment. "Touché." I smirk at Sokka's response. Appa then took off and as I look up at the sky, I frown. I have a feeling in my gut that there was a storm coming. Why do I think that? Well, there is always a cam before the storm. Ain't there?
Zuko's P.O.V.
A clear day. It should be smooth sailing to finding the Avatar. "There is a storm coming. A big one." I lower the telescope from my face as I look at Uncle Iroh. "You're out of your mind, Uncle. The weather is perfect. There's not a cloud in sight." I tell him, walking over to stand with him. "A storm is approaching from the north. I suggest we alter our course and head southwest." He says. "We know the Avatar is traveling northward, so we will do the same." I state. "Prince Zuko, consider the safety of the crew." "The safety of the crew doesn't matter." I then felt someone watching and turn to face the lieutenant. He gives me a glare. I give one back. "Finding the Avatar is far more important than any individual's safety." I state, walking over and standing before him.
I then walk off and shut the door behind me. They don't understand. No one does. I need to restore my honor. That way I can be welcomed home. I won't let anything stop me. But then that girl with the (E/C) eyes flashes in my mind. "Grr! Not now!" I shout.
(Y/N)'s P.O.V.
We found a market place and I got to work with getting food. And to get the good kind that hasn't expired weeks in advance. I had Momo with me since Aang didn't want me to be alone. I soon walk back to the pier and find the group standing together. And Sokka rubbing his butt. Momo flies off and lands on Aang's shoulders and said boy then turns around and sees me. "(Y/N)." He waves and I give him a smile. "Wow. Looks like you had more luck than we did." Katara says, noting the bag of food I have in my hand. I stop walking as I met with them, "Yeah, you'd be surprised how bargaining, when done right, can get one a great deal." I tell her. Also giving Aang a glance.
"Yeah, well, the bag is pretty small and we need to it to last for as long as possible." Sokka says. True, I could only get so much. "Well, maybe you could get a job to earn some money and buy some food, smart guy." Katara says to him sarcastically. "We shouldn't go out there. Please! The fish can wait. There's going to be a terrible storm." I look pass Katara to find an elderly couple, the woman warning the man. "Aw, you're crazy. It's a nice day. No clouds, no wind, no nothing, so quit your nagging, woman." The man argues.
"Maybe we should find some shelter." I look over at Aang and see him with this look. He also sounded... scared. "Are you kidding? Shelter from what?" Sokka asks. "My joints say there's going to be a storm, a bad one." "Well, it's your joints against my brain." "Then I hope your brain can find someone else to haul that fish, 'cause I ain't coming!" "Then I'll find a new fish hauler and pay him double what you get! How do you like that?" The couple bickers. And Sokka is running off. He gets hired.
Zuko's P.O.V.
I walk out onto the deck and look at the sky to find dark clouds. I am not letting a storm stop me. "Oh. Looks like your uncle was right about the storm after all." That guy again. "Lucky guess." I hear Uncle say. "Lieutenant, you'd better learn some respect, or I will teach it to you." I tell him, walking over to him and pointing at his chest for emphasis. I then walk off. "What do you know about respect?" I stop as he said that. "The way you talk to everyone around here, from your hard-working crew to your esteemed uncle, shows you know nothing about respect. You don't care about anyone but yourself. Then again, what should I expect from a spoiled prince?" Respect.... Care....
I turn to face him and hold my hands out ready to fight. He does the same. "Easy now." I hear Uncle say. But I ignore him as my outstretched arm braces against the lieutenant's. Steam emitting from my palm as my anger swells. "Enough!" Uncle forces us apart. "We're all a bit tired from being at sea so long. I'm sure after a bowl of noodles, everyone will feel much better." I glare at the lieutenant for a moment longer than turn away from him as I look at the storm. "I don't need your help keeping order on my ship." I tell Uncle. I then felt a hand on my shoulder but shrug it off as I walk forward then stop. They don't understand. And they don't have to. They could never understand what I went through.
(Y/N)'s P.O.V.
I place the bag of food securely on Appa's saddle then look up at the dark clouds. My gut and the old lady's joints are right. A storm is coming. I hop off Appa as I walk over to stand next to Aang. "Sokka, maybe this isn't such a good idea. Look at the sky." Aang says to Sokka. "I said was gonna do this job. I can't back out just because of some bad weather." I give Sokka a narrow look as he walks down a staircase into the old man's boat. "This isn't 'some' bad weather, Sokka. This is really bad weather." I correct him. "The boy with tattoos and the tall girl has some sense. You should listen to them." The old lady says to the old man.
"Boy with tattoos? Airbender tattoos." The old man says as he turns around and looks at Aang. He walks up to us and I grab Aang's arm as I gently pull him with me to take a step back from the man. "Well, I'll be a hog monkey's uncle. You're the Avater, ain't you?" He says. "That's right." Katara, if you're saying that with a smile and your hands on your hips, "Well, don't be so smiley about it." Huh? I look at the old man as he said that. "The Avatar disappeared for a hundred years! You turned your back on the world." He spats out and pokes a finger in Aang's chest. I let go of Aang's arm and push him behind me as I look at the man with challenging look. "Watch those hands, bub." I tell him. (Can you guess who owns that word?)
"Don't yell at him!" Katara yells at the old man. "Aang, would never turn his back on anyone." She defends. "Oh, he wouldn't, huh? Then I guess I must have imagined the last hundred years of war and suffering." Okay, I get that you're a grumpy old man, but kind of being unnecessarily mean, man. I glare at the old man. Katara then step in front of me, hands on her hips. "Aang is the bravest person I know. He has done nothing but help people and save lives since I met him." I then felt Aang no longer right behind. "It's not his fault he disappeared, right, Aang?" I turn around and see Aang backing away and has a guilt look. "Aang, what's wrong?" "What's the matter, bud?" Katara and I ask him. But he instead open his glider and flies off.
"That's right! Keep flying!" "You're a horrible old man!" "Enough!" I state. I glare and point a finger at the old man, "You, shut up!" I tell him. I then relax my face to look at Katara, "Let's follow on Appa." I tell her. She nods and we both hurry over and got on Appa. We sit on Appa's head and I grab the reins, "Yip Yip." I say and Appa flies out of the water.
Soon the storm had started and it was pouring. And I mean pouring. We lost sight of Aang and so I was busy flying Appa while Katara looked for him. "I just don't understand." I glanced over at her as she said that. "Why would he run off like that?" She asks. I look forward again, "To make it so that the storm blew the old man away." I guess. "Not funny." She softly smacks my shoulder. "Kidding." I tell her, giving her a small smile. But then I frown as become serious again. "But, to be honest, I think it has something to do with that guilty look." I say. "Guilty look?" I hear her ask.
But then she went quiet. "Turn right now!" She exclaims. I do so and Appa turns to the right. I see stairs leading up to an entrance of the mountain we are flying around then squint my eyes to see through the rain and find a figure standing in the cave. "Aang." I say quietly then guide Appa to land.
Third Person P.O.V.
Upon landing Appa, Katara and (Y/N) get off him and enter the cave. The try to dry themselves but then stop as the see Aang sitting down. His head hung low as his eyes are closed. "I'm sorry for running away." Aang apologizes. "It's ok. That fisherman was way out of line." Katara tells him. "Actually, he wasn't." Aang says. Katara and (Y/N) walk up to him, "What do you mean?" Katara asks him. Aang then looks back at them. "I don't want to talk about it." He replies. (Y/N) did not accept that reply and walked over to stand behind him. She kneels down and lays a hand on his shoulder. "Look, something's bothering you and unless you tell us what it is, it's gonna eat away at you faster than a killer whale-seal." She tells him sternly.
Aang looks down at the ground then turns his head away from. (Y/N) softens up a little then moves to be on her knees, continuing to rest her hand on his shoulder. Katara then walks over and kneels next to Aang, resting her hand on his other shoulder. "It has to do with your dream, doesn't it?" She says to him. "Talk to me." She urges him. "Well, it's kind of a long story." Aang tells her. (Y/N) gives his shoulder a gentle squeeze, "We got time." She tells him. Momo then passes them and Appa appears, standing behind (Y/N). She smiles at the bison then crawls over to stand opposite of Katara as Appa gently nudges his nose against Aang's head. Aang smiles from the comfort. "Alright, let's get a fire going. All the good stories are always told by a fire." (Y/N) says as she stands up then goes to find materials.
After setting up a small fire, (Y/N) tends to it as she and Katara sat together with the fire between them and Aang. Momo lays in the young monk's lap and Aang lays a hand on the lemur for comfort. Appa lays down at a distance from the others. "I'll never forget the day the monks told me I was the Avatar." Aang starts, looking up at the two girls who give him their full attention. "I was playing with some kids outside the South Wall. I was trying to teach them how to do the air scooter." Aang continues.
The Southern Air Temple is shown and young boys are playing outside. A group watch Aang as he demonstrates the air scooter. "First you got to form a ball then you've got to get on quick." Aang tells them as he then hops onto the ball of air. He laughs as he rides it around the yard and even scales up the walls. "Ok, here goes." One boy then attempts to do it. "Quick, get on." Aang tells him, but the boy ends up sitting on it and spins fast until the ball of air escapes him and he lands on his back. Aang makes his ball of air disappear then lands on his feet. "You kind of have to balance on it like it's a top." Aang tells the boy. "Man, that's hard." The boy groans as he sits up. A shorter boy walks over and tugs on Aang's clothing. "Where did you learn that trick, Aang?" He asks. "I made it up." Aang answers. "Wow!" The short boy wows at the information. "Aang, come with us." Aang and the other boys look over to find Monk Gyasto and other monks on the staircase. "We need to speak with you." Gyasto tells him. Aang shares brief looks with the other boys then walks over to the monks.
Aang is now in a room with him sitting before the monks, floral providing a canopy with rays of sun peeping through the gaps. "How do you know it's me?" Aang asks them. "We have known you were the Avatar for some time. Do you remember these?" One monk tells him, he sat to the right of the center monk. He takes out a rolled up cloth then airbends it to Aang. It lands in front of Aang and unrolls to reveal four toys. "Those were some of my favorite toys when I was little." Aang smiles as he feels nostalgia from seeing them, picking one up and examines it. "You choose them from among the thousands of toys, Aang. The toys you picked were the 4 Avatar relics. These items belonged to Avatars past. Your own past lives." The same monk informs. "I just choose them because they seemed fun." Aang says honesty, pulling the cord of the toy he was holding and watching as a fan twirls in the air.
"You choose them because they were familiar." The monk says. "Normally, we would have told you of your identity when you turned 16. But there are troubling signs. Storm clouds are gathering." Gyasto says, a worried tone in his voice. "I fear that war may be upon us, young Avatar." The monk in the center, sitting under an umbrella, tells Aang. "We need you, Aang." Gyasto says to Aang. Aang lowers his head and closes his eyes after being told of his identity as the Avatar.
Back in the present, Katara gives Aang a sympathetic look along with (Y/N) as he closes his eyes at the memory.
Out in the water, Zuko's ship sails while the storm rains down and much of the crew are inside. "I'm sick of taking his orders, and I'm tired of chasing his Avatar. I mean, who does Zuko think he is?" The lieutenant complains as he and some men sit around a fire. "Do you really want to know?" Iroh says, standing atop the staircase. The lieutenant and another man stand up in respect to him. "General Iroh, we were just-" "It's ok. May I join you?" He waves off their worry then asks. "Of course, sir." The lieutenant accepts. Iroh then made his way down the stairs and takes a seat with the group. He strokes his beard as he looks at them with a serious frown, "Try to understand, my nephew is a complicated young man. He has been through much." He tells them.
A younger Zuko, his face without a scar, walks through the halls of the Fire Nation palace as men go through some curtains with the symbol of the Fire Nation on it. A soldier steps to stand in front of him denying him entry. "Let me in!" Zuko demands. Iroh then walks over and places his hands on his nephew's shoulders. "Prince Zuko, what's wrong?" He asks him. "I want to go into the War Chamber, but the guard won't let me pass." Zuko answers him. Iron then walks him away and stood a distance from the guards. "You're not missing anything, trust me. These meetings are dreadfully boring." Iroh tells him, trying to dissuade him from participating. "If I'm going to rule this nation one day, don't you think I need to start learning as much as I can?" Zuko asks Iroh, a smile on his face and a hopeful light in his eyes. "Very well, but you must promise not to speak. These old folks are a bit sensitive, you know?" Iroh agrees then tells Zuko. "Thank you, Uncle." Zuko bows in thanks. Iroh then lays a hand on his shoulder as the two walk into the War Chambers.
Within the chambers is a vast room with pillars connecting the ceiling and floor. The Fire Lord sits in a decorative space behind a low wall of fire while his generals sit at a table with a map of the Earth Kingdom on it. "The Earth Kingdom defenses are concentrated here, a dangerous battalion of their strongest earthbenders and fiercest warriors." A general informs. "So, I am recommending the 41st division." He says as he uses a stick to push a piece with the fire symbol on it across the map and in front of pieces with the earth symbols. "But the 41st is entirely new recruits. How do you expect them to defeat a powerful Earth Kingdom battalion?" Another general informs then asks the one that proposed the idea.
"I don't. They'll be used as a distraction while we mount an attack from the rear. What better to use as bait than fresh meat?" The general says with a sinister smile. "You can't sacrifice an entire division like that. Those soldiers love and defend our nation. How can you betray them?" Zuko stands as he speaks, scolding the general for such an idea. The generals look at him with silence.
"Zuko was right, you see? But it was not his place to speak out. And there were dire consequences." Iroh says to the men. The men were silent as Iroh looks at the fire in the center of them.
Back with the gang, Momo is now sitting next to Aang as said boy wraps his arms around his legs and holds them close to him. "So you were upset that you were the Avatar? Why wouldn't you be excited about it?" Katara asks him. (Y/N) gives Katara a look, but the hair-looped girl does not notice. "Well," (Y/N) looks at Aang with an attentive look as he continues. "I didn't know how to feel about it. All I knew was that after I found out, everything began changing." He says.
Aang walks into the yard of the South Wall and finds many of the kids his age riding around on their own air scooters. "Hey, not bad. You guys have been practicing." Aang says, smiling as he watches them. "Not only that; we made up a game you can play with the air scooter." The short boy says as he circles Aang before stopping in front of him. "Great!" Aang cheers as he summons his own air scooter and hops onto it, but the other kids make theirs vanish right as he joined. Aang looks at them with a confused frown. "What's going on?" He asks. "Now that you're the Avatar, it's kind of an unfair advantage for which team you're on." A tall boy says. "But I'm still the same. Nothing's change." Aang denies. "So, what? I can't play?" "That's the only fair way." "Oh. Ok." Aang makes his scooter vanish as he turns away from them as he walks off. "Sorry, Aang." The short boy apologizes.
"Hold on." (Y/N) interrupts. Aang and Katara look at her as she spoke up. "So, after just having been revealed as the Avatar, the other kids your age immediately cut you out of their games even though you had not even begun your training as the Avatar?" She questions him with a disbelieving look. Aang only nods his head. Her expression then drops to an annoyed one, "Well, that's stupid. But continue." She says.
Aang is now in a room playing Pai-Sho with Gyasto, though he was not very much in a playing mood after having been excluded from his friends. "Very interesting move, young one." Gyasto says, holding a hand behind his back while holding his other to his chin as he examines Aang's recent move. "What do you mean?" Aang asks him as he raises his chin from his hand as he looks at the monk. Gyasto then twirls the hand behind him to airbend and it created a tunnel of wind that made Aang's orange cover obscure his vision. Gyasto quickly swapped tiles before Aang moved his clothing to see. "Hey!" He catches what Gyasto did then laughs. Gyasto joins him, happy to have made him laugh and smile.
But then the door to the room opens to reveal the monk that had told Aang of his identity as the Avatar. "You're playing games with him?" He questions Gyasto. "The Avatar should be training." He states. "Aang has already trained enough for today." Gyasto states. "Time is short. Come with me. I must test you in some high-level techniques." The monk retaliates and orders Aang. Aang stands up but Gyasto raises his hand, "No. as long as I am his guardian, I will decide when he trains and when he gets his butt kicked at Pai-Sho." He states with a firmness in his soft tone. "Hmph!" The monk scoffs and walks off. Aang gives Gyasto a thankful smile.
Back on Zuko's ship, Iroh continues his story. "After Zuko's outburst in the meeting, the Fire Lord became very angry with him."
Zuko's expression falls as he turns to face his father. The fire wall rising due to the anger from the Fire Lord.
"He said that Prince Zuko's challenge of the general was an act of complete disrespect. And there was only one way to resolve this." Iroh says, his tone heavy with sorrow as he closes his eyes. "Agni Kai. A fire duel." The lieutenant says. "That's right." Iroh says, looking at the lieutenant. "Zuko looked upon the old general he had insulted and declared that he was not afraid, but Zuko misunderstood. When he turned to face his opponent, he was surprised to see it was not the general. Zuko had spoken out against the general's plan, but by doing so in the Fire Lord's war room, it was the Fire Lord whom he had disrespected. Zuko would have to duel his own father." Iroh informs.
Zuko and his opponent stood on opposite ends of the royal palace's sparring yard. Zuko had stood up and turn with a stance ready to face the general, but he immediately dropped it upon seeing who it really was. His eyes wide with shock as he saw his own father stand opposite of him, but then his face shifted to fear as he realizes the situation he is now in.
Back with the group, Aang looks at the fire. "Then, just when I was starting to feel better, something worse happened." He says, Momo in his lap while Katara and (Y/N) continue to listen.
"Aang needs to have freedom and fun. He needs to grow up as a normal boy." Gyasto tells the head monk. He, the head monk, and the one who wishes for Aang to train more, were all in the same room where Aang was told he was the Avatar. "Hmm. You cannot keep protecting him from his destiny." The monk argues. "Gyasto, I know you mean well, but you are letting your affection for the boy cloud your judgment." The head monk says. "All I want is what is best for him." Gyasto states softly but firmly. "But what we need is what's best for the world." The head monk states. He then thinks for a moment. "You and Aang must be separated. The Avatar will be sent away to the Eastern Air Temple to complete his training." He states. Gyasto is shocked but bows his head reluctantly. But what they did not know was that Aang was watching and heard everything. His eyes wide with shock as he is to be separated from his guardian.
It was silent for a moment as Katara and (Y/N) process what Aang told them. (Y/N) says nothing as she then adds more sticks to the fire to keep it burning. "That's awful, Aang. I don't know what to say." Katara says to Aang then raises a hand to comfort him. But Aang moves away from her as he stands up and walks away from the fire. Momo hides behind (Y/N) as the girl tosses the stick in her hand away as she moves to sit on her knees, watching Aang carefully. "How could they do that to me? They wanted to take away everything I knew and everyone I loved!" His yells, his tattoos glowing as wind surrounds them emits from him.
"Whoa! Hot cinders!" Katara exclaims, avoiding the cinders from the fire blown at her and (Y/N), who holds up an arm to protect herself from the cinders. Aang's tattoos then fade and return back to their blue color. "I'm sorry I got so mad." He apologizes as he walks over to stand by the fire again. "It's ok. But you should be allowed to feel angry." (Y/N) tells him, resting a hand on Momo's head to calm the lemur. "Yeah, you have a right to be angry after the monks sent you away like that." Katara agrees with (Y/N), crossing her arms as she feels anger at the monks for making a decision like that.
"Well, that's not exactly what happened." Aang says, looking away from the flames with a sad expression. "I was afraid and confused. I didn't know what to do."
Aang watches from his room as kids ride around on their air scooters. He walks away then lays on his bed and stuffs his face into his pillow to try and ignore the world around him. It was later, the sun had gone down and Gyasto walks over and stands at Aang's door. He knocks on it, but the door was opened. "Aang?" Gyasto looks into the room. "I'm not going to let them take you away from me." Gyasto states. "Aang?" He opens the door fully and finds Aang's bed empty save for a scroll. Gyasto walks over and picks up the scroll, he unrolls it and reads what is written on it. His eyes widen as he gasps then looks out a window. Rain was pouring and lightning flashed with thunder roaring.
"I never saw Gyasto again." Aang says with a sad tone.
Aang screams as he and Appa end up caught in a massive storm. Appa crashes into the water then swims up. He roars as he breaches the surface but the giant waves crash into him and forces him under. The force causes Aang and Appa to lose consciousness. Aang lets go of the reins but then he enters the Avatar State. His eyes and tattoos glow as he then collides his fists together, creating an air bubble around him and Appa then waterbeds to creat a sphere of ice to protect them.
"Next thing I knew, I was waking up in your arms after you found me in the iceberg." Aang concludes. It was quiet as Katara and (Y/N) look at Aang with sympathy. "You ran away." Katara says. "And then the Fire Nation attacked our temple. My people needed me, and I wasn't there to help." Aang says, guilt evident in his voice. "You didn't-" Katara stops talking as (Y/N) places a hand on her shoulder. (Y/N) then looks at Aang as she retracts her her hand from Katara, "Look, I'm sure you're probably feeling like how you should have been there and the fisherman was right and that you turned your back on the world." She starts.
Katara gives her an irritated look but (Y/N) ignores her and continues, "Yeah, you ran away. But if you had stayed, you would have ended up like Gyasto and the rest of the airbenders." She states. "There are times where I wish I could have done things differently, but no matter how hard I try, I can't even get a clear picture of my mom's face!" She shouts. Aang looks up and gives her a surprised look. Katara looks at (Y/N) as she finds the (H/C)-haired girl with her hands in fists. (Y/N) realized what she said but calms down as she relaxes her hands, "But I was a just born so how could I memorize my mother's face while as an infant like how could you have known that the Fire Nation would have attacked the Air Temples?" She asks Aang.
Aang looks away from her as he thinks. "The point is, you don't. You gotta make the most of what you have now." She tells him. Momo chitters and wraps his tail around her to provide comfort. "She's right. You're being too hard on yourself. Even if you did run away, I think it was meant to be. If you had stayed, you would have been killed along with all the other airbenders." Katara tells Aang. "Katara is right. You couldn't have done anything then. But you can do something now." (Y/N) says. "You give people hope." Katara smiles at him and Aang looks at them with a touched smile. Momo chitters as he runs over and stands with Aang and the boy lets him.
Back on Zuko's ship, Iroh continues his story. "When Prince Zuko saw that it was his father who had come to duel him, he begged for mercy." Iroh says
The Fire Lord steps towards Zuko. "Please, Father, I only had the Fire Nation's best interests at heart. I'm sorry I spoke out of turn." Zuko pleads with his father. "You will fight for your honor." The Fire Lord states as he continues to walk towards his son. Zuko bows before him, "I meant you no disrespect. I am your loyal son." Zuko begs. "Rise and fight, Prince Zuko." The Fire Lord demands, stopping as he looks down at Zuko. "I won't fight you." Zuko affirms, bowing his head. "You will learn respect, and suffering will be your teacher." The Fire Lord states with a cruel tone. Zuko shakily lifts himself and looks up at his father with tears steaming down his face.
Iroh watches with dread while standing between Zhao and a girl with put up black hair, who both smile maliciously while watching. "I looked away." Iroh turns his head away as he shuts his eyes tightly right as Zuko screams in utter pain as fire lights the area. (My heart just hurts from just remembering it.)
"I always thought that Prince Zuko was in a training accident." The lieutenant admits, feeling sympathy for the banished prince. "It was no accident." Iroh states. "After the duel, the Fire Lord said that by refusing to fight, Zuko had shown shameful weakness. As punishment he was banished and sent to capture the Avatar. Only then could he return with his honor." Iroh says. Each of the men listening and feeling understanding of Zuko's actions now. "So that's why he's so obsessed. Capturing the Avatar is the only chance he has of things returning to normal." The lieutenant realizes. "Things will never return to normal," Iroh counters. "But the important thing is, the Avatar gives Zuko hope." He states.
Zuko is in his room with two candles lit to provide light. He looks back on memories of when he was without his scar and things were relatively normal. But then a loud bang was heard as lightning struck the ship.
"Help! Oh, please, help!" The group look at the entrance to find the old lady at the entrance of the cave. Katara stands up along with (Y/N) as they both hurry over to the elder. "It's ok. You're safe." Katara tells her as she and (Y/N) stand beside her. "But my husband isn't." The lady says, taking off her hood. "What do you mean? Where's Sokka?" Katara asks her. She and the old lady walk over to the fire but (Y/N) stops then turns around and looks out into the storm. "They haven't returned. They should have been back by now. And this storm is becoming a typhoon." The lady says. "Then that means the waters are going to be raging." (Y/N) says, worried about Sokka. "Yes. They're caught out at sea!" The lady confirms. Aang's face becomes a determined one as he stands up. "I'm going to find them." He declares. "I'm going with you." Katara states. (Y/N) turns around and has a serious face, "Me too." She says. "I'm staying here." The old lady states as she crosses her arms and sits down.
Appa now stood at the front of the cave, (Y/N) had put their supplies against the wall so that they would not be lost in the storm. She only had her knife on her and then climbs Appa and situates herself in the saddle. "We'll be back soon. I promise." Aang tells the old lady. He and Katara then get on Appa and sit on his head, Aang takes the reins and commands Appa to take flight and into the storm.
Zuko's ship continues to sail and the prince was on the deck along with some men and the lieutenant. They maintain their balance as the ship sails through the waves. "Where were we hit?" Zuko asks the lieutenant. "I don't know!" The lieutenant replies. "Look!" Iroh points up to the helm and a man holds on to the damaged railing with one hand as he dangles. "The helmsman!" Zuko exclaims then immediately hurries over to the ladder. He climbs as fast as he can and the lieutenant follows him. Iroh senses lightning about to strike and so he bends it to him and redirects it to hit the water. He was still for a moment as steam emits from him and his hair sticking up from the static.
The ship hits a wave and the helmsman loses his grip, he screams as he falls. But his wrist was grabbed and it is revealed to have been Zuko. He moves the helmsman to the lieutenant and the man grabs onto the helmsman and holds him securely. He gives a smile to Zuko and the prince gives him a small one back.
Appa continues to fly through the rain while the group keep a lookout for Sokka and the fisherman. "Where are they?" Katara says, she now sat in the saddle with (Y/N). Aang then looks ahead to find a giant wave that was about to consume them. "Come on, Appa!" He pulls the reins to have Appa fly higher, but the wave was about to engulf them. Aang becomes determined then grabs his staff as he spins it fast and bends a hole through it. (Y/N) sighs a little in relief then continues to look for Sokka and the fisherman. She then spots the boat. "There!" She shouts, pointing with one hand as she uses the other one to onto the saddle. Aang guides Appa to it, ignoring the lightning around them.
But then (Y/N) felt something and looks down to her right to find Zuko's ship. "The Avatar!" Zuko exclaims as he sees Appa. "What do you want to do, sir?" The lieutenant ask him. "Let him go. We need to get this ship to safety." Zuko orders. "Then we must head directly into the eye of the storm." Iroh advises, giving a proud smile at Zuko. Seeing that he is not chasing them, (Y/N) focuses ahead.
"I'm too young to die!" Sokka shouts as he and the fisherman hold on while the ship rocks from the waves. "I'm not, but I still don't want to!" The old man shouts. Appa then appears and hovers above the ship. Aang jumps onto the ship but then lightning strikes and the mast falls down towards Sokka and the old man. Aang gasps but becomes serious as he bends the water on deck into pillars and slices it in two, avoiding Sokka and the fisherman. Aang hurries over to them as Sokka wraps a rope around his and the old man's waists. "Hang on to the rope!" Aang exclaims as he grabs the other end and jumps onto Appa. Sokka and the old man scream as they are pulled up by Appa then land in the saddle.
Sokka and the fisherman smile at each other for having been saved, but then a gigantic wave rises behind them. "BRACE YOURSELVES!" (Y/N) bellows. Appa could not outfly it and roars as he is consumed by the wave. Everyone holds their breathes and hold onto the saddle as Appa sinks. Aang opens his eyes and finds everyone loosely holding one. He then grabs the reins tightly as his tattoos and eyes glow. He sits on Appa's head then collides his fists together as he bends an air sphere around them. The others land back in the saddle and Appa awakes as he swims towards the surface.
Zuko's ship had made it to the eye of the storm and stop as they were now safe. "Uncle, I am sorry." Zuko apologizes to Iroh, bowing his head in guilt. "Your apology is accepted." Iroh says and places a hand on Zuko's shoulder, giving him a small smile. He then walks off to check on the other men. In the water, a blue sphere appears then it vanishes as Appa flies out and into the opening of the clouds. Aang looks back to find Zuko looking at him but then guides Appa through the opening and to the sky. (Y/N) looks back at Zuko once more until she could no longer see him.
(Y/N)'s P.O.V.
Okay, that was horrible. We returned back to the cave and the old lady hugs her husband. I then time out what they say and stand beside Zappa as I watch the storm clear up. It finally does and then I hear footsteps and look to find the group and the couple standing with me and Appa as they look out at the horizon. But then I hear Appa grumble and shake out the water from his fear. I smirk as everyone else moves away from him and groan.
But then I felt a tap on my shoulder and look down at Aang. "Thanks again." He says. "For what?" I ask him. "I'm going to focus on the now and what I can do in it." He says. I give him a smile and wrap an arm around his shoulder to give him a side hug. But then I frown as I remember Zuko. He didn't chase us even though he is obsessed with catching Aang. I wonder what goes on in that head of his.
(Okay, hope you had enjoyed. Will be a while till the next chapter. Bye, for now!)
