The Storm (Part 1)

(A/N: Sorry for the wait. I was focused on other stories, but I hope this makes up for the long absence.

Also, I needed a break from writing so I could rest my brain and just relax.

Hope you guys enjoy the chapter and if you did slap a vote on it before your partner/spouse slaps you!)

~Jinhai POV~

While we were riding on Appa, I decided to write a letter to Mei and ask her how she's doing and whatnot, while giving her some context of the journey so far.

And to add, I'm gonna tell her how I feel about her, where I'm hoping she feels the same way I do about her. I've been thinking about her for some time now, so it only makes sense to confess in the letter.

After getting some parchment paper, a feather, and some ink from the berries we collected, I started writing...

"Dear Mei,

Ever since my friends and I left Kyoshi Island, we've been looking for places to stop and find food, but we haven't found anything and Aang is looking to master Waterbending like Katara is, but they haven't found a teacher yet.

I found out that my mother was alive. It turns out the king of Omashu, Bumi, rescued her from Fire Nation soldiers and took her into his care. In a village near Omashu, I saw her for the first time in almost six years. She looked the same and I almost burst into tears, the blonde hair, middle aged, but can still go as a fighter. She looked great as far as I can tell.

I will be honest with you, her supposed death has been difficult to bear as we caught up and she's planning on fighting alongside my friends and I, but at the same time she wants to stay in hiding because if she was found out by the Fire Nation, they'd kill her. For now, my mother's laying low and buying food to support herself as it turns out she's an earthbender.

I don't know why an earthbender would be living in the Fire Nation, or why I'm the son of an earthbender, but soon enough, I'm gonna ask her for the story. I want to know.

Anyway, Erya Huang is her name and if you and the girls are ever in that village, look for a fairly middle aged woman with blonde hair, that's her. Introduce yourself to her and she will make herself feel comfortable around you.

And don't forget to let her know that I sent you.

But enough of that, because I want to tell you this if I ever saw you again. Mei, although we got to know each other during my friends and I's time on Kyoshi, and you told me that you liked me as you gave me that kiss on my cheek, I felt comfortable around you, especially when we talked at a restaurant.

I feel like you understand me more than anyone because you're humble, kind, and understanding, and truthfully, I think I'm falling for you. I don't know if you feel the same way, Mei, but I do hope I get to hear from you sometime.

I wish to see you and speak to you, and maybe wrap my arms around you, but until then, I will think about you as I remain evidently yours,

Jinhai"

Once I finished writing, I rolled it up, tied it, and saved it in a leather folder, but as always, Kat had to come by and ask what I was doing.

Kat: Hey, what were you writing?

Jinhai: You know the Kyoshi warriors we made friends with?

Kat: Yeah.

Jinhai: I actually got close with one of them and we started talking until we had to go.

Sokka: Wait, are you talking about Suki?

Jinhai: No. Her name is Mei and she was very kind to me while we talked.

Kat: You're in love, aren't you?

Jinhai: What makes you think I am?

Kat: Because you're talking about her in front of us.

My cheeks turned red and I had to tell them what I thought about when Kat said that.

Jinhai: Here's the thing, I may be in love with her, but I don't know if it's for sure. When we go back there, I'll tell her myself.

Kat: That's good.

Sokka: Seriously? Dude, you gotta get off the stuff. There's no way that a Kyoshi warrior like her could be in love with you because last time I checked, they're dedicated to protecting that island and not having the time to love.

Jinhai: Last time I checked, Horsetail, a Kyoshi warrior wouldn't wanna get with you either, especially with you making sexist remarks every now and then. I don't see any reason for them to fall for you.

Sokka: Really? You wanna fight?

Jinhai: I don't have to fight over something dumb like this, unless I am being stupid enough to accept the fight.

Kat: Yeah, Sokka.

Sokka knew he couldn't win the argument, so he just turned back around as Kat and I high fived about winning the argument.

Kat: You know, if you weren't falling for Mei, especially with how much of a handsome guy you are, I wouldn't mind being your girlfriend.

Jinhai: Is that so?

Kat: Yeah.

Jinhai: Well, you'll find someone. I know it.

Kat: Thanks, Jinhai.

Jinhai: You bet. Aang, you found any island we can stop at?

Aang: I see one just up ahead.

Jinhai: Then that's where we'll stop for the night. We should rest and come morning, we keep flying.

Aang: That's a good deal.

We stopped at the island and we got onto the beach to set up camp.

After eating a bit, we all went to sleep.

~4 Hours Later~

We were sleeping I was really dreaming about Mei and I coming close to each other with our faces towards each other, but then, Momo jumped onto my stomach, waking me up along with everyone else while Sokka pulled out his weapons.

Seriously, Aang waking up and Momo pouncing on me ruined the dream.

Sokka: Huh! What's going on? Did we get captured again?

Aang: It's nothing. I just had a bad dream. Go back to sleep.

Sokka: You don't have to tell me twice.

Jinhai: You alright, man? You seem to be having nightmares lately. You wanna talk about it?

Aang: I'm ok. I think I just need some rest.

Sokka: You guys wanna hear about my dream?

Jinhai: Not now, Sokka.

Sokka: That's okay. I didn't wanna talk about it anyway.

~3 Hours Later~

We woke up and we had to get moving or we'll waste more time standing around like idiots.

Kat and I were packing up the stuff while Aang was sitting on Appa, looking at the sky.

Aang: Look at those clear skies, buddy. Should be some smooth flying.

Jinhai: Aang, I wouldn't be too sure. You see those birds flying by?

Aang: Yeah?

Jinhai: It's a sign that a storm's coming.

Kat: Well, we'd better smoothly fly ourselves to a market, because we're out of food.

Jinhai: And I say we make the flying quick, only because of that.

Sokka: Guys, wait. This was in my dream. We shouldn't go to the market.

Kat: What happened in your dream?

Sokka: FOOD EATS PEOPLE! Also, Momo can talk. You said some very unkind things.

Jinhai: Well, at least he's more relatable than you.

[There should be a GIF or video here. Update the app now to see it.]

Kat and Aang laughed as I did too, basically roasting Sokka in that sense and he looked furious of the fact that killed his dream with that burn.

Jinhai: Alright, let's get going. We got a Market to get to.

We all packed our stuff, and we flew off and into the sky, where I saw that clouds were closing in on us, so good timing on that.

Anyway, we were able to find a market that was near the shore and we had to find food.

The problem was that we didn't have enough money.

Sure, I stole some from Jet when I was trying to make a "deal" with them, when in reality, I wanted to see him lose everything and we spent it all on food and souvenirs, so that's all our fault.

Kat was looking at some melons while I was on Appa, keeping an eye out for the stormy clouds, just in case we gotta bolt and find some cover to keep warm from the rain.

Then, I see this old man walking up to his boat and his wife was telling him to not go out there since a storm was coming.

That's really smart, considering that it'll be dangerous to go out there in the first place. If I were out there trying to fight the Fire Nation by myself, I'd probably get killed.

Old Man: Aw, you're crazy. It's a nice day! No clouds, no wonder, no nothing, so quit your nagging, woman.

I decided to jump off of Appa to back the old woman's statement, knowing that we saw them before we got here.

Jinhai: She's right, actually. My friends and I saw some storm clouds on the way here, so there's no point in trying to fish.

Old Man: Who are you to defend my wife?

Jinhai: I happen to have some common sense.

Old Lady: Thank you! And I'm telling you, my old joints tell me a terrible storm is coming. A bad one, and this young man is very smart!

Old Man: Well, it's your joints and this whippersnapper against my brain.

Jinhai: Good luck with that, because we hope your brain can find someone else to haul that fish, 'cause nobody's coming.

Old Man: Then I'll find a new fish hauler and pay him double what you get. How do you like that?

Sokka: I'll go.

Sokka, being an idiot, just couldn't help himself and butt in too.

Old Man: You're hired.

Sokka: What? You said get a job. And he's paying double.

Old Man: Double? Who told you that nonsense?

Jinhai: You did, not too long ago.

Old Man: Aw, what's the point? Get ready to leave in a few minutes.

Aang: Sokka, maybe this isn't such a good idea, like what Jinhai and the old woman were just saying. Look at the sky.

Sokka: I said I was gonna do this job. I can't back out just because of some bad weather.

Old Lady: The boy with the tattoos has some sense. You should listen to them!

Old Man: Boy with tattoos? Airbender tattoos. Well, I'll be a hog monkey's uncle. You're the Avatar, ain't you?

Kat: That's right.

Old Man: Well, don't be all so smiley about it. The Avatar disappeared for a hundred years! You turned your back on the world.

Jinhai: Cut the crap, alright? He wouldn't do that to anyone! He's a good kid!

Old Man: A good kid, huh? Then I guess I must've imagined the last hundred years of war and suffering.

Kat: Aang is the bravest person we know. He has done nothing but help people and save lives since we met him.

I then saw Aang tearing up and backing away as I knew what happened. This old man made him cry.

He then flew away on his glider and the old man had to yell out...

Old Man: That's right! Keep flying!

I then held him by his collar and threw him down, glaring at him, and I wanted to let him know what I thought of him treating Aang like he's yesterday's garbage.

Jinhai: You're lucky that I was taught to respect my elders, but if you ever say another word about my brother, you're done. Got it?

The old man, being scared, nodded in fear and I let go before Kat and I got on Appa and we flew to get Aang, but little did we know, he was gonna tell us something that we never knew about him.
