Chapter Thirty Six

A/N: Hey guys! So, uh, I kinda screwed up the last part just a teeny bit (haha). I just rewrote Clare's power, so if you want, then you could go back and reread it. If not, then I'll just tell you now that she has the ability to mirror other magician's magic. That's all! Thank you and love you all! <3

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Two days later, everyone was gearing up for the predicted raid. Sans was out with a small group of spies to inspect the Cali-Utah-Oregon raid, so you accompanied Toriel and Frisk. Clare had informed you earlier that morning that you were to stay towards the nursery room as body guard for any possible invaders, so you were there with the kids and the motherly goat. Flowey was also there, snapping at every child that got too close for his comfort.
"Hey, (y/n)!" Frisk greeted with a smile, and then came an entire wave of toddlers to bid their hello. You were stuck under a pile of children for some time before Toriel gently pulled them off.
"Now, children. Please be nice to (y/n). She needs to protect us from the raid that is coming today." The goat said through a giggle and smiled up at you. The children nodded obediently and returned to their original task, allowing you to sigh and make your way to Toriel.
"Thanks, Toriel." You smiled and sat down next to her.
"Oh, it's no problem really. These children are really darlings. They just get a little excited when they see someone new." She laughed and turned to Flowey. "Am I right, Flowey?"
The plant grumbled angrily and shook his petals stubbornly. At that moment, a small boy, about the age of three came up to Toriel.
"Tor-ree-el!" He shouted and lifted up a thin sheet of paper, revealing a messily drawn picture of a flower. It had six yellow petals, a green stem, and a face. It also looked liked Flowey, which make you giggle at the picture. "Look what I drew! Can you guess who it is?"
Toriel chuckled and looked at it for a bit, looking quite awed by the picture.
"Oh, my child! I don't know! Who is it?"
The boy beamed and pointed at Flowey.
"It's Flow-ee!"
"Fl-OW-y! It's Flowey for gosh-darn's sake!" The plant burst out in frustration and started to wave his leaves around. You laughed and gave the boy a thumbs up.
"It's a very nice picture." You smiled at him, causing him to smile back and run off to draw another picture. Flowey was steaming out of anger when Toriel looked at him with an amused smile.
"Well, your language is getting better." She chirped, causing him to groan.
"I wanted to call him an idiot so badly." The plant sputtered as Frisk approached the group, with Toriel's phone.
"Someone's calling. Should I pick it up?" Frisk asked, showing the screen to the goat.
"I'll take it. The board has so many numbers nowadays, it's almost frustrating to keep up." She smiled and pressed the 'answer' button. "Hello?"
Her face dropped. Frisk, Flowey, and yourself immediately questioned her what was wrong but with every passing second, her hands shook with fear and her eyes became glassy with shock. Her mouth began to quiver and her breath became more dramatic. Eventually, she handed the phone to you and stood up to gather her things.
"We have to go, my child. Now." She muttered to you as she reached for her bag. You looked at her oddly and held the phone up to your ear.
"Greetings, (y/n)." The voice was female.
"Who are you?" You asked, but was ignored.
"I have your boyfriend in captivity. Want to hear him squeal like a bitch?"
"What?" You taken back by her claim, but you heard it. You could hear Sans' heavy breathing on the other end, and then a screech of pain. Through a quivering tone, you addressed the skeleton. "Sans?"
"Sweethea-"
"Give the phone to Frisk." There was that voice again.
"No! Where the heck are you and what are you doing to him?!" You yelled at the phone, and there was only a chuckle.
"Follow Toriel. You'll get there. Now give the damn phone to Frisk."
You had to resist the urge to chuck the phone at the girl before you rushed out after Toriel. She was cautious of her surroundings, as if trying to get out of the sight of anyone.
"What did she tell you?" Toriel asked as you caught up to her.
"She had Sans."
"Okay. She told me that she had Asgore and no one other than Frisk, Flowey, you, and myself are to come."
"You know where to go?" You asked as Frisk and Flowey came after the both of you. Toriel nodded and hid behind a wall as a group of men ran by.
"Don't get caught." She growled and started to scamper towards an exit. The rest of you followed her to the outside world. You were surprised by how quick she was, considering her condition with her growing child. After a bit of walking in the outside, she eventually started explaining the things that the voice had told her. "She said that no one else was to come, or else for every person that we bring, then someone that she has dies."
Flowey and Frisk looked at each other, fearful and knowing. Frisk had pulled the flower out of the pot, so he could travel easier. She remained holding the pot. It took a bit of walking until something actually happened. The group was at the end of the woods when you all heard her again.
"Greetings." The voice seemed to have been in front of you all, so you turned to face the figure with the bubbling anger.
"Give us our friends back!" You snapped and pushed yourself in front of everyone else. The figure just laughed, holding herself hidden in the shadows.
"Such a basic line. Seems as if everyone says that." The voice paused. "Say something interesting."
You started to sputter in anger as you approached the figure.
"Where are they?!" You started to summon an energy orb.
"Not interesting either." Blue magic shot out from the darkness, immediately draining the energy from your orb. You bit your lip in confusion. What the...is she a magician too?
The bushes started to rustle as the figure moved to reveal her identity. Everyone around you gasped at the sight. You were stuck frozen in shock. The smile was the first thing that struck you. How...insane and bright it was. Her pale skin and brown hair were more than enough to give you her name.
"C-chara?" Flowey was the first to speak. At the sound of her name, Toriel collapsed and fell to the floor, now weeping.
"No, no, no, no, no..." She whimpered to herself as you shook yourself into reality. Chara was staring at all of you, with a crazed look on her face. Of course she held a small knife, except it was glowing blue. She wore the same green and creme sweater that you remembered, and her face still held those rosy cheeks.
"Oh, how I missed you all." Chara crackled and neatly flipped her knife. It glowed with a magic aura that felt eerily familiar. The odd thing was, Chara shouldn't be a magician. She's human.
"Where are the others?" Flowey snapped himself back into his smartassed personality. His eyes narrowed from irritation.
"Just past me. Would you like to see them?" She chuckled.
"I would like to have them back." You spat.
"Of course you do." She snapped her pale fingers causing a jolt of blue energy to clasp around your waist and lift you off the ground. You tried to free yourself, but somehow, her magic was like an energy leech. It sucked the magic right out of you and you became weak. The same energy grasp Toriel, who tried to attack out of self defense. Her attacks were neutralized and useless. Flowey was uprooted out of the ground and immediately fell limp. Chara took no effort in bringing up Frisk with her magic. You assumed it was because she knew that Frisk would follow, regardless of what happened.
Chara began to walk into the dark woods and in a couple paces, there were your weakened friends. All were surrounded in the same blue energy that had weakened you.
"Just for laughs and giggles..." She chuckled and tossed you near Sans, who was barely awake. She then moved to toss Toriel next to Asgore. They both instantly responded by clawing desperately at  the magic was keeping them apart (this caused Chara to laugh at their stupidity). You and Sans just made eye contact, knowing that you both wouldn't make much more progress getting to each other. He looked at you, his eyes weak but, concerned and angry.
"You okay, Sweetheart?" He asked, causing you to nod.
"How about you?"
"Could be better." He responded and pointed to Chara. "I-I don't know she got magic. I don't know why."
You frowned and looked at her. Her knife seemed to have sparked excitedly as she approached Undyne, who was punching the indestructible wall. Chara began to twirl her knife and threw it straight down at the ground in front of the fish, causing Undyne to flinch and stop herself immediately. There was a silence that followed.
"It looks like someone didn't follow the rules." Chara started and turned the rest of the imprisoned group, eyeing down Toriel specifically. "I made it perfectly clear to not bring anyone else, but yourselves."
"But I don't understand-" The goat cried out.
"Shut up, you old hag." Chara growled, quieting her instantly. Frisk flinched at the harsh words. "There just seems to be someone else here. Such poor listeners."
Who else is here? As far as I know, no one else but us are here...you stupid girl.
"But that's no matter. I haven't killed in awhile anyways." The girl smiled with a flash of insanity and turned around to face Undyne. "I've always hated you the most. Always so loud and annoying. But, that's no biggie. I'll just be the one to strike you down."
Chara laughed and raised her knife to stab the fish, who showed no signs of fear. Undyne just stared up at her, her face unreadable. The knife wasn't hesitant to flash down on the fish, causing everyone, including yourself to flinch and turn away from the monstrosity.
That dreadful sound of impalement. The knife definitely hit the target, and you could hear the quivering breaths of the victim.
"Shit!" That wasn't the voice of Undyne. You blinked open your tightly shut eyes to see blood splatter leading to Chara and another figure. Frisk wasn't too far away from the commotion, but she was definitely surprised.
"Well, I didn't think you get here that fast." Chara growled and pulled out the knife, gaining another groan of pain.
"Yeah, well, I did." The figure chuckled and turned to you. You blinked in surprise. It was Clare. Her left hand was bloody from the wound, but that didn't stop her. She immediately charged at Chara and snapped, allowing blue jolts of energy, similar to Chara's, to bounce into all of the energy cages shattering them. Everyone immediately straightened up and attempted to use their magic, but was left empty. Undyne didn't really care though, she took off after Chara and fought along side Clare to beat the daylight's out of her. You took the time to help everyone get out of the woodlands. After you had everyone out, you and Sans returned back to the woods to help in some way.
By the time you both got there, Chara had found some distance and glared down at Clare. Her knife was quivering from the lack of strength in her body. You had to admit, the combination of Clare and a pissed off Undyne was pretty bad ass.
"Don't think you've won yet. I still have my side of the deal that Toriel broke." Chara growled and rushed out after the rest of the monster group. You immediately caught onto her intentions and began to race out after her. With the little power you had, you were capable of summoning a single energy orb and lunged it at her. It hit her, but that wasn't going to stop her crazed chase. She made it to the open landscape, and blindly chucked her knife into the group before you tackled her to the ground.
You weren't sure what happened next, but you saw Gaster's eyes widen and his body begin to chip apart. Distracted, Chara blasted you off of her and proceeded to kill you then and there, but was chased off when Clare began to attack her. Everyone turned to the direction of Gaster as his body and hands began to slowly break away into dust. Sans was next to him, taking his hands into his own.
"D-dad?" He seemed heartbroken. Gaster just turned to him with a smile.
"I guess it's the end for me, Sans." He said as the cracks on his face splintered. Sans just teared up, his eyes full of regret.
"P-please don't..." Sans choked a bit and shook his head, forcing a smile. "I-I forgive you."
Gaster seemed surprised by this statement, but softened his expression.
"Protect your brother."
"I will." Sans quivered as Gaster's remaining body crumbled away to nothing but dust. A grey heart floated just above Sans' head, swaying gently, almost as if it was still alive. It pulsed one last time, and shattered into pieces.
~~~~~~~~~~~~Time Skip~~~~~~~~~~~

Clare refused to talk to you and locked herself away with Amalgamates. Sans was bitter the rest of the day, while Papyrus tried to comfort him to the best of his ability. Due to how 'normal' Papyrus was acting, you assumed that Papyrus never really got close to Gaster and never really understood that he was his father.

But that night was rough.

You sat down on the bed next to Sans, trying to get him to sleep but you knew that he would be restless for awhile. To be completely honest, you had no idea what to do.

"Do you want to talk about it?" You asked quietly, looking him in the eye. He shook his head and looked at you hopelessly. He wanted you to do something, but you didn't exactly know what to do. Your skeleton also wasn't talking so you had to work with that too. "Okay then."

You scooted yourself closer to Sans and hugged him.

"I'm sorry this happened."

He just shrugged, causing you to lean your head on his shoulder. There was a silence, but he eventually moved his head on top of yours. An arm was grasped around your waist, and he began to speak.

"I just feel so guilty." His voice was shaky, as if he was trying to keep himself from crying. "Ever since he came back, I've treated him like crap but, now he's gone."

You looked up at Sans, seeing that he had tears falling down his face. You moved to wipe them away.

"Sans. I'm sure he understood why you treated him the way you did."

"He's gone now, (y/n)."

That sent chills up your spine. He never normally calls you by your actual name, so when he does, he's deadly serious.

"But you forgave him before he left us. That's better than not."

Sans didn't respond as he moved over to lay down on the bed. You looked down at him as he covered his face with his arms.

"I'll try to sleep, Sweetheart."

"Okay." You replied and moved over next to him, kissed him on the forehead, and placed yourself onto his chest. "If you need anything, just tell me."

"Kay."

"Good night, Sans."

"Night, Sweets."

Little did you know, your night was not over.
