Chapter Thirty
It's been a week since the whole "formal" thing went down and you were probably the happiest person alive. Sans was your's and you were determined to stay loyal to him...it wasn't hard. The first couple of days were awkward but, you two were starting to get used to the new relationship status. And no, you both haven't had your first kiss yet.
Currently, you were sitting next to Sans on a lone couch in a lounge area as he fiddled with a radio. He was getting extremely drowsy from the calm afternoon and his lack of sleep from the night before. For some reason, he hadn't been able to sleep as smoothly as you had originally thought.
"You could take a nap, you know?" You told him for the thousandth time. He just leaned his head on your shoulder and repeated the same excuse for the thousandth time.
"But I want to spend time with you, Fruitloop." He yawned and started to turn the knobs on his radio. You just shook your head and rested your head on his.
"You're not going to be able to stay up much longer. You know that, right?" You asked him, which he replied with a tired nod. You rolled your eyes in frustration and sighed. For another couple of minutes, you both stayed silent, just enjoying the presence of each other. Only the sound of a sudden commotion and the scattering of feet caused you to perk your head up. Sans had fallen asleep, and he didn't seem to have noticed as his head fell onto your lap. You blushed lightly at his limp body as Alphys rushed into the room, fixing her glasses.
"(y/n)?" She stumbled into the room with a small technical device in her hands.
"Yeah?"
"Is Sans asleep?"
"Mhmm." You looked down at the skeleton in amusement. "He couldn't sleep well last night."
"I see...well, there was a call from an unknown camp in California." She said as she activated and handed you the device. You looked down at the object, finding that it was a small voice recorder. You pressed the 'play' button, allowing a male voice to ring through the device.
"Hello, monsters and runaway humans. This is the California Monster Base and we are aware that you and the surrounding monsters are still alive. Under the current conditions, we advise you all to immediately retreat your current area and come here to safety." The voice started talking about directions to this hidden base and how it would take approximately five full days to get there if proper precautions were made. It then came to an abrupt stop.
"Everyone is starting to pack up and take things to the RV." Alphys muttered and looked up at you nervously.
"Already?" You asked, full of sudden doubt. "Even though this could clearly be a trap?"
"Gaster and I both analyzed this device and got in personal contact with the leader of that base. He says that we should leave immediately because there's a human raid coming quite soon-"
"What?!" Sans woke up, sitting up immediately. He looked at Alphys and then at you with wild, concerned eyes. "We have to go!"
"Wha-" You were cut off as he picked you up and teleported to the both of your guy's room. He started to scamper around your closet, pulling out random objects you didn't even know was in there. They were chucked to the other side of the room, stuck in a growing, messy pile.
"Annnnnnnnnnnnd..." He practically fell into the closet and pulled himself out with a cheeky smile. His eyes turned to you, full of amusement. "Oh? You haven't started packing?"
"No..." You raised an eyebrow in confusion as he snickered and pulled out what appeared to be a glass bottle of ketchup. A groan escaped your lips at the sight of the condiment.
"You really better ketchup then!" He laughed and fell back onto the floor laughing. You let out a dramatic sigh and looked at him sternly.
"You said that one already."
"Like, awhile ago!" He said through broken laughter. "I'm sorry, Fruitloop. I couldn't help myself."
You rolled your eyes and made your way to him. With a quick snatch, you pried the bottle from his hand, planted a kiss on it, and handed it back.
"Sometimes, I wonder how many of these things you could drink." You laughed and turned to your airbed for your items.

You found yourself sitting in a moving RV, holding a box full of your belongings. It was getting close to the evening and everyone finally got the whole RV set up based on the sleeping arrangement. Alphys had somehow placed some adjustments into the truck, allowing more room for sleep and storage on the sudden trip. The back of the RV had a large bunk bed, where Toriel and Asgore took the bottom and Undyne and Alphys took the top. There were seats that lined both sides of the RV, which let Papyrus sleep on one side, and Frisk at the other. Mettaton had a charging station somewhere near the bunk and Flowey agreed to stay near Frisk. Gaster just said he would stay on the passenger side for the nights. The floor was big enough to fit two people, so with some stuffing, everyone got the floor to feel as comfy as a regular bed. Sans insisted that you and him could share the floor, so that was that.
To be completely honest, you were kind of nervous. Within the last week, you both have never really cuddled or slept together...after all, the whole 'dating' thing was still kind of new to you. The closet either of you got to touching was really just Sans taking naps on your shoulder or lap. Not even hand holding, but he was patient and you were glad for that.
"So, let me get this straight." Flowey grumbled and ruffled his petals. "We're going on a trip to California and we're going to take five days to get there if we stay careful and quiet?"
"Yes, I believe so." Toriel nodded.
"That's incredibly stupid-"
"I agree with the flower." Undyne muttered and had a grin worked upon her lips. "We should just barge through the entire trip! Brute force is key!"
"No, it's not." Flowey muttered and rolled his eyes. You chuckled to yourself and set the box in your hands aside, allowing you to slide to the floor. Sans was already lying down on the cushioned 'bed', sleeping away like it was nobody's business. With a careful eye, you watched him with a smile. So cute.
As if on cue, one of his eyes opened and looked up at you. A smile crept up his lips, causing you to smile down at him. He then reached over, held onto your legs like a pillow, leaned his head against your lap, and smiled up at you sweetly. All you felt was your insides begin to melt into gushy bits. Sans chuckled in amusement and winked.
"Stop." You whined and knocked him lightly in the head. He just let out a cheeky smile and shrugged.
"Stop what?" He teased and poked your stomach.
"Stop it!" You giggled and swatted away his hand.
"Stop what?" He laughed, showing his confusion over your remark. You paused for a moment, unsure of what to say.
"Stop," You bubbled a bit. "Stop being so cute!" You spat and pouted a bit. He raised one of his nonexistent eyebrows with a questioning glance.
"What are you talking about? I'm just being me..." He then placed on a confident grin. "Or maybe you just like me that much?"
"Shut up." You laughed and swatted playfully at the skeleton. Sans just laughed and blocked off your attacks.
"Sorry, Fruitloop. I'm just that charming, aren't I?" The skeleton teased and poked your nose.
"Sans, you're stupid." Undyne butted into the conversation with a toothy grin. "Remember in grade school when you asked out literally everyon-"
"Hey!" Sans wailed and sat up to shut up the fish. She just pushed him aside and sat down in front of you. Everyone started to chuckle at the remark, causing interest to strike you.
"What happened now?" You asked, smiling at the news. Undyne looked down at you and snickered evilly. Sans began to beg her to not say anything, but she just ignored him.
"Just because your his girlfriend, and it's my job to embarrass him, I shall tell you." She laughed and turned to everyone. "You all remember this, right?"
Everyone nodded and started to chuckle to themselves at the past. The only ones that weren't caught up with the news was Flowey and Frisk. You could even hear Gaster from the driver seat; chuckling to himself as he steered the car along the dimming streets.
"Anyways." Undyne turned to you. "This all happened around...what was it? Like maybe 6th grade-"
"And one day," Alphys started to bubble excitedly with tight giggles. "Sans just starts to ask out every girl in this RV, plus a couple of others."
"May I add that when he asked me out, he personally pulled me away from everyone after school and gave me flowers." Undyne added and stole a glance at Sans. His hands covered his face, but his blushing cheeks were easy to see.
"I was being stupid!" He screeched and pouted as he pulled his shirt over his face. Toriel giggled and asked for permission to speak.
"One day, I see this little skeleton, and one of his front teeth are missing, which made him even more adorable. He hands me this single rose and asked me out on a date. It was the oddest thing I've ever seen, but here I am today. Good friends with him." She laughed and rubbed Sans' skull. "I guess you could say it was a very thorny situation."
You could hear a faint, muffled snark from behind his shirt, but the shame was still held over his head.
"You want to know how he asked me?" Alphys asked through her soft tone. "He walked up to me, having absolutely no shame, and stuffs a handwritten note in my hands during lunch. Of course I said no, for obvious reasons, but I think it was quite hilarious now I think back to it."
"Can you all just shut up!?" Sans bawled, now at everyone's mercy. His wide eye sockets peeked out at everyone in humiliation. You just smiled at him in amusement scooted towards him.
"It's okay, fuzzy buddy. I'll still like you the same." You laughed through a wide grin and leaned your head against him, causing him to shudder in embarrassment.
~~~~~~~~~~Time Skip~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was now night time and the RV was completely hidden away. Everyone fell asleep about two hours ago, but you were awake with the small box in your hands. The small cardboard box that your father had left behind at the house and addressed specifically for you. You sat alone on the floor of the RV, just staring down at the box. Even to this moment, you were hesitant to open it. Why you were, that was beyond you, but something just didn't settle right.
I need to open this.
You had your mind set to it, so with a shaky hand, you brought yourself to remove the index card and open the small box. Within it was a folded piece of paper and two odd looking charms. You first handled the note, reading it carefully.
My dearest, (y/n).
How do I start? There is so much I need to explain to you, especially about your 'defect'. But, let me start with, I'm sorry. I'm sorry for putting you through all the stress of the divorce between your mother and me. Your mother is very hard headed and I should have seen her decision coming. But, I still have you and I wish everyday to have you back.
But, there are things in this world that I've worked to keep from you and I believe this is the time to say it. You deserve to know the truth behind your identity. If you haven't figured out yet, you are one of the lasting magicians in this crooked world.
You blinked away from the message with a disappointed vibe. Really? As if I didn't figure out already.
You returned to the letter.
The origin behind you is my fault entirely. There is too much to explain right now so I won't write it down, but those charm that came with this letter is very important. Those are the key to your full potential and capacity. The way they work is by being latched onto the back of your hands, which would help regulate and intensify the magic you use so you won't end up with any physical defects. (The most common defects are normally discoloration in eye color and skin tone...others are more severe.)
Please be aware of what you are capable of when you place them on. You will become more dangerous and powerful...needless to say, one of the strongest alive. I must also mention, when these are placed on, you can never take them off. They are permanent.
Allow me to backtrack to you being "one of the strongest". I am not lying.
Somebody out there wants you and your power. I don't know why. I don't know who. But I want you to get away, regardless of what happens. I hope you listen to me.
The rest of the words were unreadable due to the scribbled words. You could tell he was in a rush to get these words on the paper. But the news stuck to you. Me? One of the strongest? That's...unbelievable.
The pressure of stress and responsibility began to frustrate you, looping around your head and fogging up your mind. Immediate regret hit you for reading anything, causing you to slam down the box and the letter against the floor. You heard the light 'plop' of the impact and the stirring of the nestled Sans.
"Fruitloop? You okay?" He asked through a hoarse voice and sleepily looked up at you. You sighed and handed him the letter so he can read it himself. He finished it quite quickly and looked up at you in sudden concern. "You don't think he's serious?"
You shot him a dirty look and groaned lightly.
"You think he's serious. Okay then. Where are the charms?"
"Here." You murmured and lifted up the box to show him the charms. At this point, you never really looked at them clearly enough to see the detail, so you took advantage of the moment to glance at them. Both were identical with a very glossy orb, about the size of golf ball. They both had a detailed golden rim secured around them, adding a little 'bling' to the dead ball. The odd thing was, the orbs were a milky grey color, making them seem lifeless.
"Are you going to put them on?" Sans asked, rubbing his eyes and ruining your analysis on the charms.
"No." You mumbled and stuffed the note inside the box. "No need to."
"You sure? I mean, he seems serious about you not getting capture and whatnot." Sans said quietly and secured the box tightly. You nodded in assurance and placed the box away with your belongings.
"Maybe because we're in a war." You paused. "And there are magicians on the humans' side."
"Look, everything will be fine. I'll be here and there to help you."
"Right. It's just so much...why does someone like me deserve such responsibility? It's..it's not fair."
"Not fair?"
"Think about it. I can't handle something as big as this. If there are really people coming after me, I'm going to get captured because of how stupid I am. I mean, for God's sake, I almost got you kill, Sans."
"Don't say that!" Sans immediately scooted himself next to you and slipped an arm over your shoulder. "First of all, you are not stupid. Second, I almost died from my own stupidity. I literally could have teleported to Frisk and then teleport away with her. Third, if you do get lost somehow, I'll do anything to find you. Kay?"
He then pecked your cheek, causing you to blush and smile at him. You both were silent for a bit, just listening to the faint sound of rustling leaves and the wind. It wasn't long until you spoke up.
"You have no idea how lucky I am to have you." You told him, causing him to blush.
"Fruitloop. If anything, I'm the lucky one." He said and nuzzled his head against your cheek, causing them to flare even more. Somehow, he manage to get you both laying on the floor and facing each other. Again, no one said a word as you stared into his white pupils and him into your eyes. It took another short bit until he spoke up. "Go to sleep now, kay? You're gonna need it."
With a smile, you nodded. There was that tingy feeling within you though. So badly it wanted you to roll over and fall into his arms, and couldn't help but do just that. With a quick roll, you found yourself bundled up in his embrace, causing warmth to fill your body.
"Eh-" Sans let out in surprise and then cooled down into a smirk. With a grateful smile, he wrapped himself tightly around you, again nuzzling your head with his. "You're really warm."
"I am human." You lightly chuckled and clutched onto his shirt. He just responded with a smile. But there was that tight, annoying compression in your heart.
No, I'm not. I'm suppose to be more than human. I'm suppose to be better.
I'm suppose to be a fucking magician.
A/N: Okay. Okay. For those that live in, near, or farther than a five days worth of driving to California, please bear with me as I go through the next four parts or so, because a lot of stuff goes down (like always). I'm just really glad to get this part in! But that's all I wanted to say. Anyways, thank you guys so much for reading! Love y'all! <3
