The Assassin

Heels click on a marble floor,
A long cloak sweeps behind.
Red lips and a pursed face;
Someone will die tonight.

Guards run swift, but are swept aside.
A flick of a hand ensures it.
Armor hits hard against the wall,
Then heads against the floor.

Blood spreads wide, but on she walks.
They were not her targets.
Torches flicker in the night,
But with a breath they cease.

Climbing the stairs calmly,
Her heels still click with menace.
A dagger in her left hand, ready,
And a second in her right.

She reaches the room, the door swings wide,
And gracefully, she steps inside.
The man cowers in the corner, scared,
And she smiles, raising her knife.

A scream, a slice, then nothing more.
The night is silent again.
The swoosh of a cloak sweeping 'round,
And then she's gone in the dark.
