Caged Tiger

A tiger is a mighty beast,

Not meant to be enslaved.

But what to do when a mighty beast

Itself puts in a cage?

A cage of grief and bitterness,

For cages aren't all the same.

Some are more than physical;

Some are made of pain.

A tiger's slain his species, then

And wrapped in guilt and grief,

He runs away, away from home

And his pain is any but brief.

He loses sight of all he loved,

He loses the light of day.

For how can a tiger see the sun

When he's trapped inside a cage?

Unless the sun itself comes out

And shines inside that cage,

And in doing so, breaks down the walls,

Opening again the cage.

For our tiger is a man, you see,

And his sun a yellow girl.

She brought the light back to his life

And drove the guilt away.

While genocide's a heavy crime,

All shall pass to dust.

And a tiger's not meant to be enslaved,

But instead to roam the universe.

A/N Final entry for ITB Poetry Edition. My quote I was given was 'A tiger in a cage can never see the sun!' - Rent. So, I took the Doctor to be the tiger, and went from there. I hope you all like it :)
