The Proclamation

JACKSON FROST III, OR JACK SAT AT THE OUTSIDE BENCH TABLE, NEXT TO HIS COUSIN, ABIGAIL. Across from them sat Benjamin, or Ben, son of King Adam the Beast, and Queen Belle, and his girlfriend Audrey, daughter of Queen Aurora and King Florian. Because his friend was biting his lip excessively, the blonde instantly knew something was wrong.

His cousin seemed to notice the same thing. The daughter of Anna and Kristoff gave the soon to be king a worried look. "What's wrong, Ben?" Her long ginger hair famed over her face and her freckled cheeks helped mask the innocent look she held.

Ben let out a sigh. The brunette pushed his hair from his forehead and gave his friends a small smile. "I've decided to make my first act as king."

Audrey let out a cheery gasp, squeezing Ben's arm. "Bennyboo, that's great." Ben gave her a soft smile.

"Not to be a downer," Jack said, giving his friend a questioning look. "What exactly is your first going to be?"

Instantly, Ben's demeanor dimmed slightly as he pulled at the collar of his polo shirt, swallowing nervously. "I have decided that starting tomorrow, kids from the Isle will attend Auradon."

As if lighting a fuse, everyone around him immediately turned to look at him with looks of outrage and disagreement.

"What?!" Audrey cried, shaking her head. "Bennyboo, everyone on the Isle are villains-"

"Not all of them." Ben cut her off. "Their kids, they didn't do anything. And yet, they're locked away on an island that doesn't even give any benefits at a good life. And for what? Whenever I look over towards the Isle, I felt as I've failed them."

Jack frowned at that. It wasn't that he didn't agree with Ben about how some of the kids, he wasn't sure about all of them, didn't deserve to be trapped on the Isle, as it brought up the question-should children have to pay for the sins of their parents?

As Ben's Coronation was getting closer, and closer, the pressure of becoming king rested heavily on his shoulders, making him a constant worry-worth. But Jack felt, that with this decision, it would hang the balance of whether Ben earned the trust and respect of the kingdom to be their new ruler.

As Ben's second in command, and his best friend, it was his job to lead him in the right direction and try to ease the weight on his shoulders, which meant stirring him away from this idea. But seeing the look in his eyes, seeing how much it meant to him, Jack didn't have the heart to break it to him that it was a bad idea.

"Maybe we should give it a chance, Audrey," Abigail tried to reason, but even she sounded hesitant.

Ben looked up at Jack tentatively, hopefulness residing in his golden-brown eyes. "Jack? What do you think about this?"

Jack cast a look Ben's way, biting the inside of his cheek, trying to think of what best to say. "If this is what you want...what you sure is a good idea, then I'll sport it. Even though I don't fully agree."

Ben gave him a grateful smile.

"Have you already selected those to come to Auradon?"

Ben nodded. "They're parents are Jafar, The Evil Queen, Mother Gothel, Cruella de Vile..." He shifted in his seat. "And Maleficent and the daughter of Queen Narcissa and Hades."

"What!" Audrey and Abigail screeched out loud, drawing attention from onlookers. Jack coughed awkwardly, waving them off as it was nothing to be concerned about.

Audrey looked beyond outraged. "Maleficent! Ben, are you serious? Do you know what she's put my family through? My mom specifically!"

"Audrey-"

"And the daughter of Hades and Queen Narcissa? What about Harrison, Delphina, Ginerva, and Eddie? How will they react to having her here."

Jack knew that Audrey wasn't trying to hurt Ben, as she loved him too much to do that, but being her friend since childhood he could tell when she was scared. Her voice would crack near the end of every sentence, and her eyes would crinkle around the lids. She was fearful for her life and her family's, as no one knew whether or not the daughter of Maleficent would try to get revenge.

And the daughter of Queen Narcissa and Hades had already made a name for herself by just being born to two of the most notorious villains. The girl was part god for crying out loud, and already would have possessed magic from just her mother, but from her father, who knew what she would do when she finally got a sense of her powers.

Ben stood up and wrapped a comforting arm around Audrey. "Audrey, I know you're worried, but we should at least give them a chance."

Audrey bit her lip and sighed. "I need some time to think. See you later, Bennyboo." Pulling away from Ben, she grabbed her back and walked away from the group.

"Audrey," Ben called, getting ready to chase after her.

"Give her some time alone, Ben," Jack said, standing up along with Abigail. "She'll come around, hopefully."

Ben sighed. "They'll be here tomorrow, are you guys prepared?"

Jack and Abigail shared a look. "No one is going to be prepared for this. But, we'll just have to go with the flow." Abigail said.

"Right," Ben muttered. "Go with the flow."
