Chapter One
"Excuse me, are you Mr Washington, sir?"
"Yes I am, I assume you are..?"
"Oh, Alexander Hamilton. I have been emailing you about the possibilities about staying in your apartment?"
"Ah, yes! Come with me, son!" The tall, bald man walked off and up a few steps to the buildings' door. Alex gripped the large cardboard box tightly and followed, dragging his suitcase behind him. The entrance was large and tidy, with a cute desk against a wall.
Washington pointed a side door. "That is the laundry room. We used to have washing machines in the actual apartments but the electric bill began to stack up. That desk," He added, switching his attentions, "Has the schedules you may need, numbers you may need and the list of every current tenant."
"Cool..." Alex mused, following Washington up the stairs.
Washington glanced back at him apologetically. "Usually we have an elevator working but it's getting a new paint job. And a new floor. And a new lighting system. And a new interior."
Alex laughed nervously, hoping that was a joke as they reached the fourth floor.
There were three doors, all tucked up together at the very, one on each wall. Two faced into each other, and one stared up at them.
The landlord put his hands on his hips brightly. "I'll walk you up and knock for you if you want. Your place is dead ahead."
"I- I would like you to knock if that's okay," Alex asked awkwardly, suddenly feeling the nervousness multiply.
Washington smiled at him understandingly. "It's fine, son. Those boys are great, and you will get along, I'm sure." With a confident nod of his head, he strolled down to the door facing them and knocked bossily.
The door opened to reveal a man the size of his landlord with well-shaved stubble along his jaw. The man had dark, frizzy hair pulled up in a ponytail.
He blinked at Washington and spoke in a surprisingly heavy french accent. "General? What's the matter? Rent isn't due yet."
"Am I not allowed to make sure you aren't burning anything without me?" The french-man snorted at Washington's' comment. "This is your new roommate, Lafayette. His name is Alexander."
Lafayette, Alex assumed, looked down at him and grinned. "Bonjour, mon ami! Let me get your bags for you!" Without Alex being able to protest, he snatched the suitcase from his hands and strolled into the apartment, calling for him to follow.
Alex looked at Washington for help, who just gave him an encouraging smile and whispered, "You'll be great!" Before walking back down the corridor.
Oh god. Don't let here be the end. I'm gonna die here...
And he stepped nervously into the apartment.
