[In the GREAT HALL, students are chattering and laughing. The camera pans from Luna eating pudding to the top of the hall where Dumbledore stood up to make an announcement.]
Alice giggles, "She got her pudding."
Dumbledore: Good evening, children. [chatting dies down] Now, we have two changes in staffing this year. We're pleased to welcome back Professor Grubbly-Plank, who will be taking care of Magical Creatures while Professor Hagrid is on temporary leave. We also wish to welcome our new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, Professor Delores Umbridge. [Umbridge chuckles] And I'm sure you'll all join me in wishing the professor good luck. As usual, our caretaker, Mr. Filch, has asked me to remind you...
"He just hires everyone he sees." Amelia mutters, shaking her head.
[Umbridge clears her throat and interrupts Dumbledore. The staff turns to Umbridge, who stands up and walks to the front.]
Harry: [to his friends] She was at my hearing. She works for Fudge.
Umbridge: Thank you, Headmaster, for those kind words of welcome. And how lovely to see all your bright, happy faces smiling up at me. I'm sure we're all going to be very good friends.
Fred & George: [scoffs, with their head on their hand] That's likely.
Umbridge: The Ministry of Magic has always considered the education of young witches and wizards to be of vital importance. Although each headmaster has been brought something new to this historic school, progress for the sake of progress must be discouraged. Let us preserve what must be preserved, perfect what can be perfected, and prune practices that ought to be [whispers] prohibited.
[Umbridge goes back to take her seat, and the students and staff scatterly applaud.]
Dumbledore: Thank you, Professor Umbridge. That really was most illuminating.
Ron: Illuminating?
Dumbledore: Now, as I was saying...
Ron: What a load of waffles.
"What a crock of shit." Amelia huffs.
Harry: [to Hermione] What's it mean?
Hermione: [ scoffs, shakes her head] It means the Ministry is interfering at Hogwarts.
Dumbledore: And lastly, as you all know, Professor Sinistra has retired. And we have a lovely replacement that hopefully would be permanent. [gestures to Jasmine] Your new professor for Astronomy, Mrs. Jasmine deLay-Lupin. [the hall abruptly applauds, and some whistle] I know you all will treat her with your utmost respect.
Avery: [stands on the table, cheering] THAT'S MY MOM BITCHES! [Jasmine snorts, then covers her mouth] WOO!
Jasmine chuckles, "Ha, deja vu."
"You know, I solemnly swear I heard someone shout milf... Probably Theo." Avery realized then shrugged.
McGonagall: [sternly shouts] Miss Lupin, get down this instant!
Snape: [groans, mutters] This is going to be a long term.
Dumbledore: Oi, I almost forgot. Many years old, you tend to forget some things. We have two transfers. I believe many of you met them all during the Triwizard Tournament. [he gestures to the entrance of the hall, where Peyton and Mateo Rios strut inside, smirking] Please give a warm Hogwarts welcome, again, to Peyton and Mateo Rios. [the twins stop at the front of the hall, in front of Dumbledore] They have already been sorted into their houses. Now, you all have a great night, get some rest, and we will see you ll bright and early.
Mateo smirked, "See that, Potters? That's how you strut."
"Bitch please. I invented the strut." James waved the boy off.
Monty takes off his glasses, "And where do you think you got it from?"
"Mom." James deadpanned.
[The twins walk to separate tables, Mateo to Gryffindor, where he was greeted by Dean and Neville, while Peyton went to the Hufflepuff table, where she was welcomed by Hannah and Susan. The camera then pans from above Peyton, to in front of Avery.]
Avery: [groans] You've got to be bloody kidding me? [her head falls onto the table.]
[LATER, Harry enters the Gryffindor Common Room, and students chatter. Just as Harry walks in, students quiet down and stare at him.]
Harry: [nervously] Dean, Seamus, good holiday?
Dean: [smiles] All right. Better than Seamus's, anyway.
Seamus: [after he puts down the newspapers and walks to Harry] Me mum didn't want me to come back this year.
"Merlin, that kid's accent is thick." Frank whistles.
Harry: Why not?
Seamus: [lightly sneers] Let me see, uh, because of you. The Daily Prophet's been saying a lot of things about you, Harry, and about Dumbledore as well.
Harry: What, and your mum believes them?
Seamus: Well, nobody was there the night Cedric died.
"Eh, wrong. Ten points from Gryffindor." Ginny buzzed.
Harry: Oh, well, I guess you should read the Prophet then, like your stupid mother. It'll tell you everything you need to know.
Avery blushes, "Sassy Harry. I love him the most."
Seamus: Don't you dare talk about my mother like that.
Harry: I'll have a go at anyone that calls me a liar.
[Jasper and Ron walk in just as the tension rises.]
Ron: What's going on?
Seamus: [while pointing] He's mad, is what's going on. Do you believe the rubbish he's come out with about You-Know-Who?
Ron: Yeah, I do. [looks around the room, slightly glaring] Does anyone else got a problem with Harry?
Jasper: [sighs] Seamus, don't go making assumptions about things you don't know. [he sees Alicia and smiles] Alicia, girl, how you been?
"Alicia is so fun." Jasper laughed at himself.
[Harry and Ron walk up the steps to the boys' dormitory. Harry kicks his trunk, frustrated.]
Ron: You all right?
Harry: I'm fine.
Ron: Seamus was bang out of order, mate. But he'll come through, you'll see.
Harry: [rolls his neck, then yells] I said I'm fine, Ron!
"That was lowkey hot." Avery whispered to herself.
Jasper leaned over to her, "You're a freak."
"Takes one to know one." She smirks.
Ron: [lightly nods] Right. I'll just leave you to your thoughts, then.
[Ron walks to his bed as Harry sits down on his bed. Harry sighs and falls backwards onto his bed, as the camera pans to the bed curtains, the scene changes to show the Ministry of Magic. Harry lies down on his bed, twitching.]
Voice: [whispers] Harry...
[It goes inside the Department of Mysteries, showing Voldemort. Harry jumps awake, sweaty, from his dreams, seeing Ron staring at him. MORNING, in DADA, Mateo walks in with the Patil twins trailing behind, fawning over him. He sees Avery sitting with Hermione, he smiles at her, then walks to a desk. Pavarti charms a paper dragon into the ceiling.]
Mateo: [chuckles] Over here. [he blows on the airplane, going towards another group of students.]
Dean: Go on, Seamus. Go on, go on, get it.
[Seamus hits the airplane as it flies over the classroom. Crabbe then hits it towards the Patil twins, then Umbridge casts a spell to burn it as it falls on their desk.]
Regulus rolled his eyes, "Fucking buzzkill."
Umbridge: Good morning, children. [Students turn around. As Umbridge walks to the front of the classroom, she charms the chalk to write on the board] Ordinary Wizarding Level Examinations. O-W-L's. More commonly known as OWLs. Study hard, and you will be rewarded. Fail to do so, and the consequences may be severe. [As the books go to every student] Your previous instruction in this subject has been disturbingly uneven. But you'll be pleased to know from now on, you will be following a carefully structured, Ministry-approved course of defensive magic. [Hermione raises her hand] Yes?
Hermione: [looking through the book] There's nothing in here about using defensive spells.
Umbridge: Using spells? [she laughs] Well, I can't imagine why you need to use spells in my classroom.
Avery: Could have sworn that this is Defense Against the Dart Arts. [shrugs] Using spells is kind of the point of this whole class. [Umbridge slightly glares at her.]
"She literally beat me to it." Diane says.
"It's right in the name." Natalie shakes her head.
Ron: We're not going to use magic?
Umbridge: You will be learning about defensive spells in a secure, risk-free way.
Harry: Well, what use is that? If we're going to be attacked, it won't be risk-free.
Umbridge: [as she walks to the front] Students will raise their hands when they speak in my class. It is the view of the Ministry that theoretical knowledge will be sufficient to get you through your examinations, which, after all, is what school is all about.
Harry: And how's theory supposed to prepare us for what's out there?
Umbridge: There is nothing out there, dear. Who do you imagine would want to attack children like yourself?
"Arguing with a child is crazy work." Barty snorts.
"She doesn't like her job for real." Evan shrugs.
Harry: Oh, I don't know, maybe Lord Voldemort.
[The whole class flinched at the sound of the name. Silence so loud you could hear a pin drop. Avery smirks at Harry's boldness.]
Umbridge: [after silence] Now let me make this quite plain. [while walking to the back] You have been told that a certain dark wizard is at large once again. This is a lie.
Harry: [stands up, enraged] It's not a lie. I saw him! I fought him!
Umbridge: [walking back to the front of the classroom] Detention, Mr. Potter!
Harry: [as Umbridge walks back to the front] So, according to you, Cedric Diggory dropped dead of his own accord?
Umbridge: Cedric Diggory's death was a tragic accident.
"So is your outfit!" A Ravenclaw girl yelled.
Harry: It was murder. Voldemort killed him! You must know that!
Umbridge: [shrieks] Enough! Enough. See me later, Mr. Potter. My office. [she giggles]
Avery: [groans, mutters] This is going to be a long term.
[A WALL OF CATS ON PLATES. Umbridge turned her office into her comfort. PINK, everywhere. Umbridge takes three spoons of powder, puts it in her tea, and mixes it as the cats meow. She puts the spoon down and drinks her tea. Harry knocks on the door. Umbridge puts her tea down.]
Umbridge: Come in. [Harry enters Umbridge's office] Good evening, Mr. Potter. Sit. [Harry closes the office door] You're going to be doing some lines for me today, Mr. Potter. [as he reaches for his bag] No, not with your quill. You're going to be using a rather special one of mine. [She stands up, takes the BLOOD-RED quill, and sets it on Harry's desk] Now, I want you to write "I must not tell lies."
Harry: How many times?
Umbridge: Well, let's say for as long as it takes for the message to sink in.
Harry: [sassily, over his shoulder] You haven't given me any ink.
Umbridge: Oh, you won't need any ink.
[As Umbridge walks away, Harry begins writing the message. Then starts to gasp in pain as the same message comes on his hand. "I WILL NOT TELL LIES". Carved in his handwriting. He feels pain as the message is in the blood. He groans. Umbridge turns around and walks in front of him.]
"What type of shit is that?!" Mia exclaimed.
"Dolores! That is completely ridiculous! That's no way to discipline a child!" Amelia raged, standing over Umbridge.
"Just wait. There's more." Avery stated as her leg began to jump up and down. Her nerves racking, rage boiling, and all.
"Oh, she might kick her ass in person." Dorcas squealed excited to see Avery kick some more ass.
Umbridge: [fake sincere] Yes?
Harry: [after silence, glares] Nothing.
Umbridge: That's right. Because you know, deep down, you deserve to be punished. Don't you, Mr. Potter? [after more silence] Go on.
[Umbridge walks away, as Harry returns to his lines. Gritting his teeth through the pain, forcing himself to go on. TWO HOURS LATER, Harry's shaking, weak hand scratches the final line of the evening, the words on the back of his hand not even healing any longer, but bleeding profusely.]
Umbridge: [clears her throat, smiling] That's enough for this evening. I'm sure we don't want this to happen again, do we, Mr. Potter? No need for that message to sink in a bit deeper, hm?
"I may get sent to Azkaban tonight." Lily fumed, digging her nails into her hands so she doesn't flash.
[Harry staggers to his feet, weak and pale, rushing from the office. He staggers down the hall and around the corner, almost breaks into a run until he bumps into Avery.]
Avery: [grunts] Merlin, watch where you're-- Harry. [notices his pale exterior, concerned] Harry? Are you alright?
"And she still cares." Draco snorts.
Harry: I'm fine. [he hid his hand in the sleeve of his robe, trying to walk around Avery] I just need to douse my face in some water. [As he goes to move around her, Avery looks down and sees some blood splatters on the floor, making her grab him by his injured hand. He groans out in pain.]
Avery: [rolls up his sleeve and sees his scarred hand, gasp] Harry, you're hurt!
[She starts to guide the boy down the corridors, to the infirmary wing. Madam Pomfrey wasn't there, so Avery just sat the boy down on the hospital cot and rushed to grab supplies. She came back with arms filled with gauses, ointments, and wraps.]
Avery: [while cleaning the blood off Harry] That foul bitch! I can't believe Dumbledore got more incompetent staff.
Harry: [winces] I told you I was fine, Avery.
Avery: [wrapping his wound] Tell that to your new scar, Potter. [huffs] This is complete bullshit. And the Order expects us to just lie low with this bitch torturing students. [starts to wrap too tightly and rapidly.]
Harry: [puts his hand over Avery's, stopping her] Avery. [she slowly looks up to him, eye to eye] I am fine. I swear.
"Damn it Harry. You're messing up Havery!" Mary yelled.
"She can also go back to the hot prince of Spain." Dorcas jokes.
"Or the platinum blond pureblood prince." Alice adds.
"Or stay single, practice celibacy and become a prude." Remus suggested.
"I'm good... on all choices." Avery deadpanned.
Avery: [looks away, pulls her hand away, gets up, and starts cleaning] Yeah. Yeah, you're right. If you don't want to make a big deal out of that wound, then just use that dressing over there. [points to a blue jar] And you might want to hurry back to your dorm, Potter. Curfew is slowly creeping up.
Harry: [gets up, stutters out] Wait-- Avery, wait a second--
Avery: [walking to the back] Potter, please just go. [closes the door behind her]
[Harry sighs. He waited a couple of seconds before getting up and finally leaving. Harry forgot to realize that when Avery said she wanted to be just friends, she meant it. The camera pans from Harry's retrieving silhouette to Avery peeking out of the closet door to make sure Harry truly left. The girl simply huffed and slid her back down the wall. Knowing that this school term is just getting started.]
Avery: [groans] Welcome back to Hogwarts, Moon. This term, we have incompetent teachers, love triangles once again, and Steve the squid, who sees everything. [shrugs] At least my mom's here. [eyes widen] Shit! My mom is here! [quickly gets up and runs out of the infirmary before getting caught out after curfew. She definitely didn't want her mother to hear about this; she isn't Malfoy.]
"At least some of your priorities are in order." Remus deadpans.
