Chapter 9
As sleep drifts away from me, I open my eyes to be greeted with more of those blue flowers.
They now scattered the room and grass patches had started to form. I get up out of bed, being careful not to step on a flower. I look under my bed to see one patch of the blue flowers. They looked beautiful. The flowers mesmerized me.
I went to the lab and the same thing had happened. I moved to the entrance room and the same thing. I turned to face the way I woke up and the pattern the flowers were in was the same too, size and everything. The flowers were focused in the middle.
I bent down and plucked a flower from the root. And like magic, I watched the flower grow back up in seconds. More patches sprouted up around me in the spaces where there hadn't been. I looked in wonder and amazement.
I don't really think this is a normal thing to happen. Once the growing stopped, I go to the door and open it to reveal that all the snow is gone. It was surprising because it is still freezing out. The flowers grew outside, like normal. This time, the flowers invaded the ruins. It hadn't till now.
I was more freaked out than amazed now. It's kind of weird to have flowers growing in seconds and the snow to be gone in under a couple hours. I looked up towards the sky and it was noon. Why do I do this to myself? Sleep in, I mean.
I turn my gaze at the ashes for the fire that had burned last night. Now I have to clean that! I pick up a pile of ash with my hands. I walk over to a different part of the ruin and throw the ashes in a semicircular motion with my hand, gradually letting the ash go and letting the ash fall around me.I repeat this a couple times till it's really hard to pick up more ash.
It is really cold. I don't know why flowers are growing, I don't know why there is no snow, and I don't know why the leaves on the trees are still here. What is this world?
It was noon, no matter how much I hated that. I decided to walk through the forest to take my mind off of this every growing weird day. I sigh and take a step to start my adventure into the known unknown.
I go farther than I usually do and I even spot the warren of rabbits that all the rabbits come from. Many does, many bucks, many kits. On my way I saw different herds of deer, some had males, some didn't. Many does, many bucks, many fawns. Many animals.
I walked until I was met with a river. The river flowed weirdly. The left side of the river flowed outward from me, while the right side of the river also flowed outward from me. Where the two directions met, there was a meter wide section of water that didn't flow in either direction. In fact, nothing moved.
I looked up and away, but parallel from the non-moving water and saw the trees. The leaves weren't moving and the wind wasn't blowing and suddenly, I saw a rabbit hop in... and it stopped moving. It stopped breathing, it stopped blinking, it stopped chewing, and it's fur stop moving.
The weird part was that I was directly in the middle of this place and I could do everything. I could jump and breath. There was no wind and it was as cold as cold could be, by I was not affected. I could not physically feel it. My finger was as cold as it was and my metal leg was also as cold as it was. It was like nothing moved, including particles. But I can breathe, I can feel. It's not all potential energy because I am the only kinetic energy here. I could still move and everything still worked.
I looked down at the grass and I wasn't standing on the dirt, I was standing up upon the untouched grass. I pick up my foot and slammed it into the untouched grass as much as possible, but it didn't budge. I looked at the water with the ripples forever instilled in it.
What should happen if I touched it? What would happen if I were to put my finger in it and returned movement to it? Would my finger just slide upon the water, going over the frozen waves or would my finger sink in the water and stay like that? Would my finger make the river move again? Would my finger get sucked in? There is only one way to test it.
I bent down to the river that was only a yard wide and decided that I didn't want to put my finger in it. So I took off my boot from the only real foot I had and dipped my toes in it. It felt like water except the water was flowing every-which-way and water rapidly sucking my foot in. I couldn't take it out, the force and grip of the water was unbeatable.
As my body hit the ground, I quickly grabbed onto the grass that was as hard as stone and held on with my life. I felt tugging on my other leg and realized that I was being pulled by both legs. My grip on the grass wasn't hard enough and I slipped. The water quickly consuming me up to my bellybutton. I had quickly latched onto more grass and the tug of the water became increasingly strong.
I started screaming as loud as I can. The tugging became painful and it felt like I was going to be ripped apart. My fingers slipped again and the water pulled me in, my hand grabbing onto one piece of grass that was near the water's edge. My other arm was sucked in along with half of my face. As soon as I grabbed the piece of grass, my hand let go of it. The water consumed all of me, and I closed my eye as it did. It was hard breath and I couldn't swim up. I wasn't going down either.
I looked down and I could not see the river bottom. With one blink of my eye, the river went from a meter wide to possible miles wide. It was all going too fast and I was able to move up again. I swam up, gasping for air and the water was rough. Waves crashed over me and I thrashed around.
"Help! Help!" I repeated over and over again. I could see two women and one man. The woman in the middle had bright blond hair and wore a choker. She ran towards me but could barely move before I was pulled under, closing my eye. I looked under me and the thing pulling me was another woman. Her face was busted in, her skin was coming off her face and I could hear faint laughter. She wore a beautiful, flowing, white dress.
I looked past her into the abyss of the trench. I couldn't see the floor because it was covered with human bodies. Lifeless people sprawled on top of each other. I thrashed around more, trying to get out of the woman's grip. I tried to swim up but down was the only direction my body was going.
I was running out of air and I was starting to suffocate. I let go of bits of air and my body movements get faster and wider, trying my best to get out. Soon enough I gave up and closed my eye. My body lost consciousness as soon as I did.
Everything was still. Everything was calm...
Until I was woken up by the jostling of my body.
