Yeosang felt his entire body freeze when he saw Jongho standing in front of them.
This had been what he had feared most. If the Pack had control of Jongho... what if he never got his love back?
"Yeosang, scan him." Hongjoong said, jolting the hacker from his thoughts. His voice was calm and collected, something all of them needed right now.
Right. He had a job to do. He needed to focus.
His fingers danced across his keyboard in his hurry to find out what had happened, but they froze again when his favorite voice filled the air.
"Step out of the vehicle, dismount the bikes, and put your hands up!" Jongho shouted.
San looked at Yunho with concern. The older was still to weak to be moving around. "What do we do?"
"San, can you climb over to make it look like you were driving?" Mingi whispered. His tall frame started to slowly rotate as he slid off the bike below him.
"What won't work, they saw him shooting." Yunho answered quickly. His hands shook in front of him from either fear or adrenaline.
Yeosang swallowed and closed his eyes. "I-I'll do it."
"No, we need you." Yunho rotated a little to look over his shoulder.
"And you can't fight!" San snapped. His eyes narrowed and he pushed his lips out in an angry pout, showing his displeasure and how Yunho was behaving. Yeosang would have normally found it cute and endearing, but eighth now the only thing he could focus on was how Jongho was starting all of them down.
Tensions started to rise in the car and Yeosang felt like he was about to combust. "We can't do this now! If they have control of J-Jongho, then they won't know anything about what's happened since he left. Now move!" He snapped before climbing into the front seat and over Yunho's lap to get out of the car.
Everyone on bikes had already dismounted and had their hands in the air. Yeosang and San approached them slowly, trying to play for time.
"Where's the other one?" Jongho studied them one by one. "Yunho. Where is he?"
"Still injured." Hongjoong answered. He took a small step forward, falling easily into the roll of their leader.
Jongho paused for a moment, then jerked his gun to the side. "Walk." His eyes narrowed into a dark look. It was like there was nothing of the old Jongho left... He was but a shadow of his former self.
The sight destroyed Yeosang. Everything in him was begging him to run forward and either embrace or slap the younger. How could this happen? What was going to happen to Jongho now?
"Don't give up yet." Yunho's soft voice entered their ears. "If I'm reading this scan right, they stole your idea for a headband, Sangie. It's hidden in his hair, they must not have been able to do a full implant.
The hacker's eyes flicked to the younger to try and see what Yunho was talking about as the group started to move toward a door on the side of the tunnel.
There. Right behind his year. The was signs of a metal band resting against his head.
Relief flooded Yeosang's body and he almost collapsed on the spot.
He must have shown enough weakness because a second later there was a gun barrel digging into the small of his back. "I said move!" Jongho hissed.
Everyone was already a few paces in front of him getting ready to walk through the door. There were so many Pack members surrounding them, too. They didn't stand a chance if they tried to fight their way out of here...
"Just stay calm." Yunho whispered. "Once they are gone, I'll work on placing the bombs and finishing that part. You guys do what you can to finish off Mercer."
No one could respond, but the message was taken to heart by the way everyone tensed. For Yunho to place the bombs, he would have to move quickly and be safe, two things his injuries would do everything they could to prevent from happening.
They were taken down a long hallway that curved around slightly like the main tunnel. Several doors lined each side, all made of a rich, deep brown mahogany. Artwork of all styles decorated the walls, all of which were probably stolen from local museums.
If it weren't for the situation, it would be a beautiful place to take in and explore.
At one point, Wooyoung started to slow down. Sweat drenched the back of his neck and he shook his head a little.
Seonghwa immediately took his hand and made eye contact with him. "Deep breath. It's ok, I won't let him hurt you."
Jongho snorted and shoved Yeosang forward so that he stumbled into the couple. Seonghwa caught them both before they hit the ground and glared at Jongho. "Yeah I wouldn't hold your breath." The younger warned. "But your father is looking forward to seeing you again."
Yeosang clung to the sniper's arm, needing all the support he could get. "J-Jong..." He whimpered, glancing at the boy who had stolen his heart years ago.
"Don't." Seonghwa's deep voice rolled over him, making Yeosang close his eyes. "Don't do this to yourself. He's not in there right now."
A sob tore from Yeosang's throat and he tucked himself into Seonghwa's side when they started walking again. Wooyoung took his hand and squeezed it, and Yeosang was sure it was as much of a comfort for Wooyoung as it was for himself.
He wasn't cut out for this. He wasn't a fighter or a warrior... He didn't have a heart of stone... He couldn't put on a strong face in the middle of a battle...
All he wanted was to know Jongho was going to be ok and that they could be happy together again. All the fighting seemed so pointless now. How could he let himself fall into such a trap like that?
Mingi and Hongjoong stayed in the front of their group, acting as a wall to shield the others from Mercer's wraith whenever they were brought before him. It made Yeosang feel even weaker because he would be up there with them, but he just... didn't have the strength.
Wooyoung's grip on his hand grew tighter the further along they walked. San seemed to notice how tense he was as well and moved to walk directly in front of the younger. If he was scared of what was about to happen he wasn't showing it.
Members of the Pack started to break off one by one, disappearing into various doors to return to their duty. This was interesting because it meant that Mercer was relaxed being in his own home. Yeosang took note of it and wished he had a way to communicate with Yunho.
If they were dispersing, then their plan could still be detrimental and take out a lot of the Pack members.
Yeosang chanced a glanced over his shoulder when they rounded a corner and noticed that Jongho was staring straight ahead, as if he were merely a robot. He really was being controlled. His eyes flicked up to Seonghwa next and noticed that his lips were white from how hard they were being forced together.
Suddenly Wooyoung yanked his hand free and yelled at the top of his lungs. He spun in place, pulling out several knives from his suit in a smooth movement, then in the blink of an eye they were imbedded in some of their captors.
Bodies dropped to the floor around them while more ran forward to replace them.
"Woo, no!" Seonghwa shouted, reaching out for him when he ran by.
He had used the corner for to his advantage and managed to kill several men, but he had caught his own team by surprise too. There was a desperation in his eyes that told Yeosang he didn't want to go any further.
Jongho stormed forward, shoving both Yeosang and Seonghwa against the wall. Mingi was quick to act and pulled Hongjoong out of the way by looping an arm around his waist and pressing him against the wall.
They watched as Jongho ran straight for Wooyoung and tackled him to the ground, causing him to drop the remaining knives in his hands.
Seonghwa tensed and made a sound in the back of his throat. His forehead creased with concern, then it looked like he forced himself to turn away. "Yeosang go. Slip away." He cupped the hackers face to gain his attention. "Go try to get to Yunho."
"Wh-What?" Yeosang opened his eyes in shock. "I-I can't!"
"You don't have a choice. Use this to slip away." Seonghwa urged. He pushed Yeosang back down the hall.
The hacker tripped over his own feet and stumbled forward, having to think quick to dodge some of the bodies on the ground.
When he looked behind him, Seonghwa and San were acting as a wall to block him from view. His heart was racing and his confidence, what little he had, was slipping away.
Yet he knew Seonghwa was right.
As the commotion continued behind him, Yeosang took a deep breath and bent down to pull a couple of Wooyoung's knives from the nearest bodies. He quickly wiped them off, feeling his stomach churn at the sight of blood, and ran down the hall.
He could still hear a little bit of what was happening through the ear piece, and the most he could tell was that Wooyoung was doing his best to fight against Jongho.
At one point, a door in front of him opened and Yeosang had to slip behind the door next to him to hide.
His heart pounded in his head and he clapped a hand to his mouth in hopes of muffling his breathing. It struck him just how lucky he was because the room he had been forced to chose was empty.
From what he could tell without a light on, there were a few boxes on shelves, so it must be some kind of a storage room.
"Restrain him!" Jongho's shouts came through the ear piece.
"Wooyoung, please stop!" Seonghwa begged.
"Get off me!"
"Hold him!"
"Quickly!"
More voices joined in and Yeosang felt his mouth trembling behind his hand.
"Yeosang?" Yunho's voice covered it all and the hacker sobbed. "Yeosang focus on me. How do I isolate us?"
The hacker whimpered and took a deep breath before whispering, "F1, three, three, N."
With those four keystrokes, Yeosang knew it would bring up a screen that showed all of their connections. All Yunho had to dow as click on their names to force them into another frequency.
"Are you still with me?"
"Y-Yes."
"Good." Yunho's voice was still barely above a whisper. "There are a few members guarding the vehicles. They tried to get in, but the Illusion only opens for me so they can't. I can take them out easily, but can you get to me?"
"I d-don't know." Yeosang shook his head.
"Yeosang, I need you to focus. We had this all planned out. I know seeing Jongho was hard, but I need you to calm down. It's the only way we are going to help him. Ok?"
Yeosang took a moment to let Yunho's words sink in. "Be strong." He whispered. "Be strong for Jongho, like he always is for you."
He was grateful to Yunho that he never said anything to his personal chant, especially because it helped.
Slowly, he opened the door and peered out of it.
All clear.
Gripping a knife tight in his hand, he jogged out into the hallway. He made sure to keep his feet light, not wanting to draw any attention to himself.
"I'm coming." He said. His hand kept flexing, fingers clenching around the handle repeatedly as a way to ground himself.
"Let me know when you're at the entrance. From what I can see there's no one in your way, they've all headed elsewhere. Which is good for now, but-"
"Bad for later." Yeosang finished. If the Pack was moving, then that meant Mercer was trying to do something.
The thing that worried him the most as that they had infiltrated the area easily enough, but the tables had turned quickly.
It was almost like Mercer had still expected something like this to happen. Which would make sense since he had captured Jongho... and they had no idea what Jongho might have told Mercer about their plans.
All Yeosang knew was that they were teetering on the edge of a canyon, and their ledge was crumbling beneath them.
