Chapter 1: A Mysterious Book
Lucky's POV
After the incident at the mall, I returned home. Yet, upon my arrival, I was immediately met with my grandfather, Allan Zivillicuz's, outcry.
“LUCIANNE CKYRINE!” my heart winced as Grandpa bellowed my full name.
What's his problem? Why did he yell my full name like that?
My full name is Lucianne Ckyrine Zivillicuz. The reason I became Lucky is because "Lu" came from Lucianne and "Cky" came from Ckyrine. Therefore, Lucky was formed by combining the two.
My name is beautiful, isn't it?
“Lucianne Ckyrine! Come here, you punk!” because of Grandpa's shouted, I covered my ears.
“Yes, my handsome, Grandfather?” when I entered Grandpa's office, I cautiously bowed because the lampshade he had thrown had nearly hit me in the face.
“Don't make me look like a fool! Lucianne Ckyrine!” I just scratched my head dahil napapangiwi ako sa paraan niya ng pagtawag sa pangalan ko.
“Do you think I'm kidding, Grandpa? It's true that you are indeed handsome.”
“Your Dean just called and said I need to come to his office tomorrow morning because you made another mess again.” I winced because of that.
“Eh! Grandpa, I'm not the one who started that mess!” I defend myself with him, but it's true that I'm not the one who started the mess. Tumulong lang ako, ano bang masama do'n?
“Oh, come on! That's always your reason, young lady!” I closed my eyes because the sound of his screams hurt my ears.
“Your heart, Grandpa,” may pagbabanta na sabi ko. Oo, may sakit sa puso si grandpa, Matagal ko na siyang kinukulit na magpa-opera sa puso pero ayaw niya. He always said that he was old enough and that he didn't need surgery because God would take him at any time.
When I consider the possibility of that happening, I always feel overwhelmed because my grandfather is the only family member I have. I have never known my mother and father since birth. And whenever I ask about their whereabouts, my grandfather always assures me that there must be a significant reason for their absence and that I will understand when the time is right. This leads me to believe that they are still alive.
“I'm not sure what I'm going to do with you, kid. Your Dean said he'll only give you one last chance, and if you mess up again, you'll have no choice but to leave the University, which I assume you probably don't want to do, right?” I thought about it. If I were to move, would that mean I wouldn't have to see Zaphael's ugly face every day? Pero naalala ko na magkatabi lang kami ng bahay, as in magkatapat lang ang bahay namin.
“Well, that's a great idea, Grandpa. Changing schools would mean I wouldn't have to see that ugly man even while I'm at school!” because Grandpa shook his head in response to what I said, I sniffed.
“Why don't you like Zaphael? That boy is so kind.” I rolled my eyes out of nowhere in response to what my grandpa said.
“That's it! He's kind, so I really don't like him.” I smirked at him and then sat on the sofa in grandpa's office.
“You're really a silly kid.” Grandpa stood up from his seat and walked towards the pillar. My eyes widened as Grandpa waved his hand, and a door suddenly appeared. I couldn't help but wonder how that happened.
Even though I was surprised, I simply ignored it, thinking it was a high-tech.
“Come here, apo.”
Woah! So cool!
“Grandpa, what are we doing here?” I asked him when we reached the bottom.
I looked around and noticed a small stage in the middle with a book on it, illuminated by the sole source of light. Grandpa walked over to the small stage and took the book. Curiosity piqued, I followed him, my gaze fixed on the book before me. It was unlike any other book I had seen; thick and adorned with intricate engravings on its cover.
“I'm giving you that book.” I wonder why he gave me this book?
“What kind of book is this, Grandpa? Why does it seem strange?” I asked, but Grandpa remained silent. Nevertheless, he handed me the book, and I furrowed my brow as I realized how weighty it was.
Is this truly a book? Anong klaseng libro ito, bakit sobrang bigat? Parang kasing bigat ng isang sako’ng bigas!
“I want you to keep that book as it holds the answers to all your questions.”
“Grandpa...”
“I have the ability to prevent things from happening, but I choose not to interfere because what is destined to happen will happen, and no one can stop it. I am grateful to be your grandfather—perhaps guiding you is the purpose of my life. But...I sense that your destiny is approaching.”
Is he okay? Maybe my grandpa is going crazy again? Or maybe there's a camera around, and grandpa is pranking me?
“Hey, Grandpa! Do you think you can fool me? Don't me. I'm wise, so where's the camera?” I laughed so hard. My grandpa is incredibly old, yet he's still full of jokes.
“What are you saying there?” Grandpa's face looks serious. Is he not joking?
Woah! Grandpa could be an actor, pretending to know nothing about the prank.
“Grandpa, I already know that gimmick of yours. You're pranking me, aren't you? It was so great when you made the line that ‘I have the ability to prevent things from happening, but I choose not to interfere because what is destined to happen will happen, and no one can stop it. I am grateful to be your grandfather—perhaps guiding you is the purpose of my life. But...I sense that your destiny is approaching.” “You're a great, grandpa! But I'm better than you because you can't fool me HAHAHA!” I stopped laughing because Grandpa was staring at me. His face was serious, and his nose seemed to be smoking with rage.
Hmm, he wasn't serious about what he said earlier, was he?
“Do you think I'm playing with you?!” napaatras ako dahil sa biglaan niyang pagsigaw.
“Isn't it?” napakamot ako sa ulo’t napangiwi. I observed him carefully, trying to determine if he was truly serious, and it turned out that he was indeed being sincere. Grandpa responded by slapping his forehead with the palm of his hand.
“LUCIANNE CKYRINE!” agad akong tumakbo palayo sa underground place ni Grandpa dahil galit na talaga siya .
Damn it!
I realized that I had reached my room after running, so I entered and sat down on the bed. I was so tired!
As I walked in, I glanced at the book in my hand. “Ano’ng meron sa ’yo? Why do you look so important to my Grandfather?” I whispered to myself and opened the book. I was surprised to see that there was nothing written in it. All of the pages were blank. There's nothing important in here, but I'll keep it because grandpa said I should. I still don't like reading books, and since the page is blank, I can't read anything anyway.
I stood up and placed the book into the cabinet. Then, I returned to bed, intending to sleep for a while.
To be continued...
