{Chapter 7}

{Previous:  "Once we finish up the house work we will be able to start mining."
"What was that?"
I stopped dead in my tracks and turned around.

Ron was still sitting against the fence next to Star. But... I thought I heard him walking behind me.}

It's been 6 days since me and Ron had met. And I've seem to learn more and more about him. But I've also seem to be noticing how off he's been lately. When I wasn't looking or when it was quiet he would seem to doze off. Even when I'm talking to him. I'll turn from the farm to ask him something and he'll sometimes just be standing there starring off to nothing. I thought maybe he might have some sort of ADHD or something. But it seemed to have gotten worse two days ago when he nearly fell off a abandoned bridge we found. He was lucky that I was there watching him when it happened or else I wouldn't have been able to pull him back before he fell. It got me worried. What if this happens again but this time he falls into a ravine or something? I was sitting on the steps watching him tend to the crops. I couldn't help but wonder if Ron had some mental issue but didn't tell anyone cause he needed the money to help his family. I wouldn't be surprised if that's the case. Lots of people have lied about there physical or mental health to be able to get a little money. But it's also extremely dangerous, especially when your putting others and yourself in danger. I blink as I saw Ron look up into the forest. He slowly stood up and starred into the forest. Just. Like. Before. Like when he said he heard someone in the forest. I stood up from the steps and walked over to Ron. "Ron, everything alright?" His shoulders seemed to tense up before turning to look at me. "Yeah, everything's fine."
"Well we are supposed to start mining today. I just wanted to make sure you knew cause you've been acting a little weird these past few days."
"Have I? Oh my bad. I..." Ron pauses for a moment again. It's so weird when he does that. It's almost like he's being interrupted. "I... I tend to get dozy when I'm not working." I narrow my eyes at him. He's definitely lying. "Look. I don't want to push you or anything but I know you aren't being so truthful with me. We're a team. We're supposed to have each other's back. And I can't do that if you won't tell what's wrong." I said to him. His face quickly shifted to utter guilt. Whatever it is he's hiding seems rather serious. I let out a heavy sigh before grabbing my empty bag and walking back to the house "When your finished tending the crops you need to pack your gear. I'll be waiting."

(Timeskip)

As I wait outside for him to finish packing I look at the chorus fruit. It felt soft like a peach and squishy. I sit there waiting on Ron a little longer before groaning in annoyance at how the sun had just finished rising. He should have finished gearing up by now. I walk over to the door but before I could grab the handle to open it I stopped. And listened. There was a voice speaking. Ron's voice. He sounded like he was talking to someone. But I couldn't hear anyone else in there. I open the door and I hear him let out a light gasp. He was sitting on his bed with his bag in one hand while holding one of the Day Night clocks I got.  "Who are you talking to?" I asked blankly. "W-what? Oh, I was just talking to myself. I was giving myself some motivation." He explained. I starred at him blankly as he awkwardly smiled. I'll buy it... for now. "Alright, well hurry up. We were supposed to leave half an hour ago." I said while walking out of the room. "Y-Yeah. Ok." I should have seen this coming. He's got some mental issues. Should I send a letter to Notch about this? I sigh to myself as I hear Ron walk down the steps. "You ready?" I asked. But when I looked up no one was there at the steps. I blinked in confusion. This is the third time it's happened. Maybe I'm starting to go crazy myself. Just then I hear Ron REALLY come down stairs. "You ready?" I asked again. "Yeah. I brought extra food Incase we decide to stay down longer." Ron said opening his bag to show the extra bread he packed. I nod before turning to the stairs leading down to the abandoned mines. I begin to walk down them while saying "Let's get going." Ron nods before reluctantly following me down stairs.

It was a long walk down. If I were to guess we would probably be deep enough to find gold. Maybe diamonds. Eventually we get to the bottom of the stairs. We were both met with a mineshaft inside a Ravine. If I were to guess right, cause it's pitch dark down here. The only light source down here being the torch in mine and Ron's hand. I aim the torch out. carefully trying to see as much as I could. The only thing out of all of this that bothered me was the fact it was quiet... too quiet. I turn to Ron who was looking in the other direction of the ravine. "Hey Ron." I said. He looks to me with a raised brow. I was about to say something about the how quiet it was before pausing as there was a loud metal on metal shriek that echoed in the ravine. We both looked into the dark with wide eyes. I clenched my fists. No, we aren't going back. I'll light this place up with torches even with skeletons shooting arrows at me! I grabbed a burnt out old torch from the wall and threw it at the floor before sticking my own torch in it. "Come on let's get started."
