Chapter 5:

Brandon

Corey's going to kill me. I sat staring at the garage door for at least ten minutes before I worked up the courage to go inside.

Axel saw me first, "What took you so long? I was starting to get worried."

Well here goes nothing. "I, um, I gave Mattie a ride home."

Raven's head popped up, "You gave krolik a ride and didn't invite me, I'm hurt." I chuckled as he grinned knowingly, but Corey's look wasn't so forgiving.

"Bran, we talked about this. She's an employee for fucks sake. Not to mention, she's brilliant and if shit goes south, she'd own the fucking firm in about ten minutes flat," he groaned.

I couldn't help the laugh, because he was right. She may not have been to law school, but she's amazing. "I know, I know, and I didn't mean to, but she was sitting out front all alone. We made her miss her taxi with that damn interrogation. I wasn't going to leave her sitting alone in the middle of town waiting for another one."

"Shit," he swore, "I mean, I guess I didn't realize she didn't have a car. Damn, she pays to ride every day from Hahnville? That's got to be costing her a fortune," he groaned.

I nodded, "Yeah, I thought the same thing, and, um, offered to give her a ride in the morning too." He frowned and started to say something, but I decided to go for broke and blurted, "I also kissed her."

Corey groaned in frustration, Raven groaned in envy while Axel and Marc just watched like it was a movie. "Damn, and here I thought working at the aquarium was interesting," Axel joked.

"Yeah, my target hasn't done shit except watch porn for days, and not even good porn," Marc snorted. "Sounds like I should visit the office more often."

"Ahem," Raven cleared his throat. "I need to know one thing. Are krolik's lips as soft and sweet as they look?"

"Raven!" Corey snapped, slapping his chest.

The big Russian wrapped his arms around my brother and kissed him then grinned, "Argue all you want malen'koye solnyshko, but you were fascinated too. We saw how you looked when she was explaining the case." Corey huffed but didn't deny it and Raven turned back to me, "Well?"

With a Chesire grin, I simply nodded.

"Yebat' (Fuck), we need shower," he said and threw Corey over his shoulder heading down the hall.

Axel turned back to me and chuckled, "So, three for dinner?"

Mattie

"Mama look!" Violet squealed as she shoved a slip of blue paper in my face. "Can I go, please? Can you come too, Mama?"

"Woah, Bebe, slow down. Let Mama read it first, please," I laughed as she danced around, nibbling a piece of bacon. I skimmed the permission form and smiled. Her kindergarten class was taking a trip to the local aquarium. She'd love it. I pulled out my planner and checked the date. I think I can go, well that is if Trish doesn't refuse the request. I really have no idea what the fuck that woman's problem is with me. "I'll sign for you to go, love, but I have to talk to work about taking the day off. I'll try my best, Violet."

She frowned for a moment, then smiled, "Okay, Mama. I know you'll try, cause you always try hard." She ran up and pressed a greasy kiss to my cheek before darting upstairs to get dressed with the blue paper firmly gripped in her chubby fingers.

"Did you call for your taxi, Cher?" MawMaw asked as she cleaned up the dishes.

"Um, actually Brandon is giving me a ride this morning," I blushed. She just gave a snort, grinned, and kept washing dishes. I shook my head when I looked at the clock. Oh shoot, he'd be here any minute. I scrambled to grab my bag and tennis shoes. Heels and bikes aren't a good combination. "Violet, Bebe, come give Mama a kiss, my ride is almost here," I hollered up the stairs.

She zoomed around the corner and bounced into my arms. "Bye Mama, have a good day!" She pressed more kisses to my cheeks as I squeezed her.

"Love you, Bebe," I told her as I headed out the front door. Brandon pulled up and I fought the urge to orgasm just at the sight of his bike, not to mention how sexy he looked in his leather jacket and tight jeans. I think my ovaries just exploded.

"Morning, beautiful girl," he said, as he kissed my cheek and handed me a helmet. "Hope you brought a brush," he chuckled.

I winked, "I'm a Cali girl at heart, Brandon. We always carry a brush and a hair tie." He gave a loud laugh and hit the throttle. I scooted close, securing my backpack then wrapped my arms around his stomach as the bike's vibrations shook my body.

By the time we reached the quarter, my legs were numb. I hadn't ridden a bike since before Violet was born, well, not since I rode with Nova, and even then it wasn't much. He didn't have a license, just a mischievous streak a mile wide.

He led me into a small cafe and ordered two coffees, beignets, and boudin stuffed pastries. I chuckled, "For a non-native, you sure have adapted to the cuisine."

Brandon laughed as he took a bite of the boudin and hummed. "I'm a bottomless pit, Mattie. It's a guy thing." I grinned and took a bite of a beignet. His eyes darkened a bit as he reached over and swiped his thumb near my lips. "You had some sugar," he stuttered. I don't know what possessed me, but I darted my tongue out to lick off the sugar on his thumb. He groaned softly, "Fuck, baby. Now I want to kiss you again."

My cheeks were burning hot, but I just blinked innocently. He started to lean across the table when his phone buzzed. "Shit," he muttered and checked the message. "Sorry, beautiful, but we have to get to the office now. Corey's on a tear about some new case. I'll park in the staff garage so you can get changed, okay?"

I nodded, "Sounds good. Thank you for breakfast and the ride, Brandon. I really enjoyed it."

He pulled me closer just as I was about to get on the bike and whispered in my ear, "Thank me when I get to have you for breakfast, Mattie." I have no idea what the squeaking, choking noise was that left my throat, but it made Brandon roar with laughter. I just buried my face in his back as he drove the remainder of the way to the firm.

He gave me a quick kiss once we'd parked and headed up the elevator as I headed into the restrooms to change. I groaned when I saw Trish waiting at my desk.

She looked me up and down. "Don't you look quaint today," she sneered. "I hope your reprimand from the senior partners gave you a reality check, Matilda. You need to step up your game if you want to make it in this field. Now, we have a new client today, and you better not fuck this one up. Mr. Henshaw has requested to have four paralegals sit in on the meeting for notes and such. Grab your stuff and get to the Rose room quickly." She huffed again, flipped her fake blonde hair, and clomped off.

I gathered up my notebooks and supplies. This must be the case Brandon had mentioned. I wonder why Trish picked me since she seems to hate me so much. Oh well, no time to worry about that. I quietly slipped into the room and took a seat near the coffee cart. A few moments later, Mr. Ravenstahl entered and saw me. He shook his head and motioned for me to come to the table. I widened my eyes and shook my head no, but he gave me a 'don't argue' look and I quickly obeyed. He pulled out a seat to his left and leaned in, "You sit here, krolik. Be my eyes and ears when I can't translate fast enough." I gave him a reassuring smile and nodded.

Soon the room was filled with lawyers in thousand-dollar suits, as well as several paralegals including the four from our firm - Trish, Kevin, Raj, and myself. Corey and Brandon sat on the other side of Raven and nodded their greeting to me before beginning the meeting. I saw Trish's eyes slit as she noticed my placement at the table. She walked behind my chair and hissed quietly, "What are you doing? Paralegals don't sit with the lawyers, you idiot. Get to your place."

I started to say something, but Raven interrupted me. He placed a hand on my wrist gently and told her, "She is my interpreter, ty prostitutka (you hooker). She sits where I say." His voice had a finality that even Trish recognized as she paled.

"S...sorry Mr. Ravenstahl, I had no idea." She scurried away but continued to cast daggers at me.

"Sir, you really shouldn't call her a hooker," I whispered, trying to suppress my giggle. "If she figures it out, then you could get sued."

He snorted, "She couldn't figure her way out of a wet t-shirt, krolik. Besides, you like when I call you bunny." My breath hitched and he noticed instantly. "Good girl," he purred quietly then turned back to the meeting. I was fairly certain there was a puddle in between my legs right now. Get a grip, Mattie, these men are your bosses and they're friends - brothers. You can't have your cake and eat it too, girlie.

I let out a breath and started taking notes.
