Chapter Two
Luke's POV
I felt like I hadn't slept in a month. I'd had a hard time sleeping ever since Hope had disappeared, and the not knowing anything didn't help matters. We just wanted to know where she was and we just wanted her to come home. Joel and Moriah took turns sitting beside the phone, hoping that a call with a tip or any kind of demand would come in, but do far, no luck. I was laying on the bed, eyes closed, trying to fall asleep with no luck. Courtney was on her cell phone at the moment, talking with one of Hope's three friends, and he was someone that she met on tour one time, Colton Dixon. He is twenty-five, two years older than her. They had actually started dating, and he was closer to her than any of her other friends.
"No, it will have been ten days tomorrow. I tried to get ahold of you sooner, but you weren't answering....No, we haven't heard anything yet. We'll let you know when we hear anything. Ok. Sure. Are you going to get a hotel room? We have a spare room if you'd be able to do that... hang on, let me ask my husband." She put her hand over the phone, turning to me.
"Colton said he's planning on flying in tonight. Would he be able to use the spare room downstairs?" I yawned, nodding and opening my eyes.
"Tell him if he'd like, we had a band drop out of the tour, and I was planning on seeing if he could come with." I responded, looking at her. She nodded, putting the phone back up to her ear.
"Yeah, we have a spare room you can use, and Luke was wondering if you'd be able to do the tour with them in about a month and a half...Ok, I will let him know. See you tomorrow then. Bye." She hung up the phone, putting it back in her pocket, and coming over onto the bed beside me.
"He'll be here around two o'clock tomorrow afternoon. I'll ask Joel if he can pick him up from the airport." I nodded absently, closing my eyes again. Courtney scooted closer to me.
"I know it's hard not knowing anything, but God knows what he's doing, and he'll take care of her. I'm sure of that. He took care of you when you got sick." I sighed.
"I know, but there are times when all I think of is what could go wrong. It's so easy to do, and those thought take over." She nodded, scooting closer to me.
"I know what that's like. That's how I feel sometimes, thinking about this, and that happened a lot when I think about how sick you were..." Her voice cracked as it trailed off, and I realised that we were both crying. After about twenty minutes, I realised that she was asleep. Gently, l lay her down, and headed down to where Joel was sitting beside the phone, and Moriah was dozing in a chair. My son, Jude, and my nephew, Jaron, were on the couch, playing a game on someone's phone. I sat down beside them, and Jude promptly crawled into my lap.
"Mom's asleep Jude, so if you go upstairs you need to be quiet." He nodded.
"When's Aunt Hope gonna get home?" I winced slightly, looking at Joel, who gave me a sympathetic look, and he answered.
"She'll be back soon. She's going to sing with us this time, remember?" Jude nodded.
"I'm hungry." He whined. Just then, Moriah woke up and heard the whine. She got up, taking the boys hands.
"I'll get these two something to eat. How does hamburgers and french fries sound?" The boys cheered quietly, and followed her upstairs, remembering the warning that Courtney was asleep. Joel gave me a small smile, and I tried to return the smile, but failed.
"Courtney talked to Colton, and he's catching a plane here, and he said he'd be able to do the tour with us. His band lives in or around Nashville, so that won't be a problem." Joel nodded.
"If you want to try to get some sleep, I'll wake you up if anyone calls. So far, nobody's called." I nodded, laying down in the couch and closing my eyes.
"God, please bring her back safely. We just want her to come home." That was the last thought I had before I fell asleep for what felt like the first time in ages.
Devin's POV
I pulled the door shut, and waited a couple minutes. The girl in there, Hope, I think it was, started crying.
"Hmm. Oh well. 'Betcha she's purty scared right now. Heh, she should be." I thought. I headed back out to where Vincent and Joseph, the two guys that hired me were emptying can after can of Coke. I grabbed the tv remote, and turned the tv on for the first time in about ten days. A corny kids tv show theme song came tumbling out of the tv. And now the adventures never end! Dragon tales, Dragon tales, it's almost time for Dragon tales. Come along, take my hand, let's all go to Dragon la-aa-nd! Joseph and Vincent looked up at the tv, and Vincent nearly cursed.
"What kinda junk is that?!" He turned and looked at me.
"Change the channel, and fast!" I fumbled with the remote, and finally found the right button. I flipped through a few channels, finally finding a news station. A blond haired reporter was talking about two chimps that escaped from a zoo in Maryland, and broke into a bank.
"Heh, you think we should hire em sometime?" Joseph snorted. The story changed to another reporter talking about Hope Smallbone's disappearance.
"Police think they may have found a lead, but they are not releasing the information until they know for sure. I snorted.
"Leads? What kinda lead? We didn't leave em no lead! They got nuthin on us!" An interview with her brother, Joel came on.
"None for us understand why this happened. We just want her to come home. She's a wonderful young lady, and she wouldn't have done anything to turn anyone against her like this. If anyone knows where she is, or who has her or anything like that, please, we just want her to come home." By the end, Joel looked like he was about to cry. Joseph screwed his face up in a fake pout, and sniffled like he was about to cry.
"Aww, I'm so sorry your sister is missing. We'll bring her back right away." Then, he sneered.
"Hah! Not! If we were sorry, don't ya think we'd never have done this in the first place? It'll be a long time before you see her face to face again." We all cheered, and toasted each other with coke. Vincent took the remote and turned off the tv.
"Nuthin else on here's gonna be any good. Let's get some sleep. We've got some planning and arranging to do tomorrow. I lay down on the cot I had set up in the corner.
"We've done it. We pulled off the biggest abduction in the country. We're gonna git some big bucks for this job. I doubt her family's gonna sleep as well as we are." That was the last thought I had before I fell asleep.
