Part 3 Teaser
I walked out, one arm about my stomach, the other hand caressing my forehead. It was hot with, most probably, a fever. The pain swirled around, licking at every inch of my brain, sapping out every bit of energy and thought. The white lights above me rained down their blazing light. It lashed against my eyes, deepening my pain. I couldn’t bare anymore of it.
And then, the world blackened and my mind closed.
The next thing I knew, when fluttering my eyes open, was the bright white above me, which caused me to think if I was in heaven; but then the light turned to the shadowy silhouette of him leaning over me, and I realised what a stupid thought that had been.
‘Honey?’ he whispered very lowly.
I moaned, bringing my hands up to cover my eyes. He tried prying them away but I wasn’t giving in.
‘Go away,’ I mumbled through my hands.
‘Haha, no, I ain’t going anywhere. Look at me, darling, do you want me angry?’ I gasped and sat up straight away, dropping my hands to my sides. ‘There we go.’ His hand started stroking my cheek while his other took a hold of my right hand; he sat on the left of me… in a bed? I looked down at my body, confused.
‘Why… why am I in a bed?’
‘Yeh… that’s what I need to tell you. You fainted in the hallway.’
‘Oh, I vaguely remember blacking out.’
‘Hah, yeh.’ He leant across to me again and kissed my forehead. His fingers then brushed through my hair. ‘Why didn’t you tell me you were being sick? I could have got someone to check you over.’
‘Because I didn’t want you to worry.’ I squeezed his hand with mine.
‘Well, I haven’t just got you to worry about.’ He eyed me weirdly, I had never seen this type of admiration emanate from his eyes before.
‘What does that mean?’ I asked, scowling slightly.
He took my other hand in his and pulled them up to his lips where he kissed the back of each. Looking up slowly to stare back into my eyes, he lowered my hands onto my lower belly. At the gesture, I was more confused than ever.
‘Honey, what’s going on? Do they know why I’ve been sick?’
He smiled before answering. ‘Yes, they know but how you don’t I don’t know.’
‘Huh? Craig, stop with the riddles and tell me why I passed out.’
He chuckled, I wasn’t impressed. ‘You passed out because you’ve been sick.’
That wasn’t what I meant. ‘Alright, then do they know why I’ve been sick?’
In reply, his hand slid off mine, under my top and brushed up so his fingers just brushed along the skin of my tummy. I looked down at where our hands lay. But as soon as I realised what he was trying to tell me and my eyes widened, he had already begun to kiss me.
I let him kiss me and just started to fall into it myself when, while his hands moved round my waist, someone coughed next to us. We paused our lips then pulled away. Craig looked up at the white coated doctor; I kept changing where my eyes gazed, from my hands (still on my lower tummy), to Craig, to the doctor then all over again.
‘It’s most probably been around three weeks judging by the growth we can see on the scans,’ I heard the doctor explain. At a thought, I started blushing.
