*Chapter Three*
"The Battle of Willow Creek took place right at the end of the war in our very own Mystic Falls. How many casualties resulted in this battle? Ms. Bennett?" Tanner, the history teacher, questioned.
"Umm, a lot?" Bonnie said shrugging her shoulders. Alvina glances at her with a small smirk. She could feel the magic radiating off of her but not yet tapped, very close though. "I'm not sure, like a whole lot."
"Cute becomes dumb in an instant, Ms. Bennett," Tanner warns her. It doesn't seem to affect her very much. "Mr. Donovan?" The jock snaps out of his thoughts and looks at Tanner. "Would you like to take this opportunity to overcome your embedded jock stereotype?"
"It's ok, Mr. Tanner, I'm cool with it," Matt said slouching in his seat slightly.
"Hmm, Elena?" Tanner asks. "Surely you can enlighten us about one of the town's most significant historical events?"
"I'm sorry" Elena shifts in her seat. "I-I don't know" Elena muttered.
"I was willing to be lenient last year for obvious reasons, Elena. But the personal excuses ended with summer break" Tanner snipped. Anger flares through Alvina. She knew Elena's situation and wondered who gave Tanner the right to put a time limit on grief.
"There were 346 casualties" Alvina answers his question with the perfect amount of sass. She could see his annoyance yet amazement on his face and in his eyes. "Unless you're counting local civilians"
"That's correct, Ms...?" Tanner drags out not knowing who she is.
"Salvatore" She fills in with a smirk.
"Salvatore" He repeats. "Any relation to the original settlers here at Mystic Falls?" He asks. She shares a glance with Stefan.
"Distant" She shrugs leaning back in her seat. She crosses her legs and chews on the edge of her pen.
"Well, very good. Except, of course, there were no civilian casualties in this battle." He tries to correct her. She scoffs and smirks at him.
"Actually, there were 27, sir," She says. Her eyes glance at Stefan and he nods. The actual Salvatore's had told her all about their true history. Not only the history of the town but the history of their family.
"Confederate soldiers, they fired on the church, believing it to be housing weapons," Stefan spoke up. "They were wrong. It was a night of great loss"
"The founder's archives are stored in civil hall if you'd like to brush up on your facts, Mr. Tanner," Alvina smirks at him. Tanner looks between the two of them before looking down at his paper.
Alvina's smirk deepens before she holds her fist out to Stefan. Stefan glances at it before looking at her. She looks at him and nods to her fist and wiggles her eyebrows.
"Don't embarrass me" She mutters aggressively before smirking and giving him a wink. He rolls his eyes and fist bumps her. She smirks victoriously. "I heard there's a party tonight, you gonna show up?" Alvina asked as the class dismisses. "Woo your girl over with your charms?" She winks at him. Stefan smiles and rolls his eyes.
"I might make an appearance" He shrugs. Alvina snorts as the two of them walk out of the classroom together.
"Bullshit, you'll be there for as long as Elena's there" Alvina grins at him. He gives her a half-grin and rolls his eyes.
"What about you? Anybody catching your eye?" He asked as they rounded the corner. She lights up when she sees him.
"I'm working on it" She mutters to him. "I'll see you there, Salvatore" Alvina winks at him before walking down the hall towards the handsome stranger.
A cliché comes to mind but it's perfect. She strolls down the hall, 'minding her own business'. She fights the urge to look at him but keeps him in her peripheral vision. She grins to herself as she times it perfectly.
"Oh, I'm so sorry!" Alvina grins as she 'accidentally' bumps into the boy. Their hands brush and it's enough.
Alvina's smile deepens as a warm feeling spreads through not only her body but the boys as well. She can feel a tingling feeling on her wrist and knew it was her tattoo changing colors.
She looks up at him with a smile on her face. He frowns his eyebrows and looks at his hand, inspecting it. She knew what he was feeling and felt kind of bad that he didn't understand it but he would, soon.
"It's fine" He mutters before smiling at her.
"Alvina" She holds her hand out to him. "Alvina Salvatore"
"Jeremy Gilbert" He takes a hold of her hand. The confusion returns as he feels the warm feeling again.
"Jeremy" She whispers regaining his attention. "I hope to see you around, handsome" She gives him a wink which warms his cheeks. She reluctantly lets his hand go and walks down the hall. She can feel his gaze on her and fights the urge to turn around. She's only able to fight it for so long before she's turning her head to look at him.
His eyes are watching her with a small, barely noticeable smile on his face. She gives him a small wave. His eyes widen as the realization that he's been caught staring dawns on him. He blushes and looks away. Alvina grins and continues down a different hallway.
She walks over to the bathroom and slips into one of the stalls. She leans against the door with a goofy grin on her face. She looks down at her wrist and pulls the band back. The J.G. that was once in black ink is now golden.
"One down, three to go" She whispers, her eyes glancing at the initials right below Jeremy's. N.M.
Slowly, she covers the marks and walks out of the stall. She checks herself in the mirror before noticing her phone going off in her back. She looks through it and pulls it out. She smirks when she sees who's calling her.
"Damon fucking Salvatore" She answers turning around and leaning against one of the sinks.
"You're still mad aren't you?" Damon asked wincing at her tone.
"No, of course not," She said in an overly sweet voice. "When have I ever been able to hold a grudge against the great Damon Salvatore?"
"Yep, you're mad," He said more to himself than to her. She smirks as a petite girl comes out of one of the stalls. She avoids eye contact as she washes her hands and scurries out of the bathroom. Alvina frowns wondering if she was that intimidating. "Could I make it up to you if I said I have some Honey Necture?"
"You're telling me you have Honey Necture?" Alvina asks doubtfully. He hums in confirmation. "Bullshit"
"I've been saving it for a 'get-me-out-of-jail' card," He said.
"And this is what you choose to use it on?" Alvina asked.
"Let's see if didn't pick you up and I've been ignoring your calls, it's been a day and that's more than enough for you to plan something diabolical so yeah, I'm playing my card," He tells her. She smirks.
"Card accepted, you're off the hook," She said before hanging up. She assumed he had something he wanted her to do but she didn't care, she has her own agenda now and that's to get Jeremy Gilbert's attention.
After school, Alvina hitches a ride with Stefan back to the house. Once they get there, she speeds up to her room and tries to find the best outfit. She knew Jeremy was going to be there. The entire school would be at the party. She wanted to catch his eye and keep it on her.
She knew she must have gone through almost everything in her closet. Her eyes continue to glance at the clock, watching it tick down. She knew she would have to make her decision soon. Eventually, she chooses a red shirt with nice white designs along with a pair of dark skinny jeans.
"You look nice" Alvina looks at Stefan through the mirror as she touches up her makeup. She gives him a wink and turns towards him.
"Not so bad yourself, Stephanie" She teases. He rolls his eyes but smiles. "Ready?" She asked standing up. He nods and the two of them walk out of the house. "Let me guess, you're running?"
"It'll be quicker," He said smirking at her. "Wanna lift?"
"If you ruin my hair..." Alvina points at him. He smirks and lets her hop on his back. He speeds to the party. Once they arrive, he sets her down. He gives her a look as she pets her hair. "Good" She smirks and gives him a wink before walking into the party. He shakes his head with a grin before going in a different way. "Where are you handsome?" She mutters looking around as well as relying on her hearing to find him.
"It seems like you did" Jeremy's voice rings in her ears. Alvina smiles victoriously and begins to head in his direction.
"He was just drunk" Alvina hears a woman reply to him.
"I'm drunk. Am I throwing myself at you?" Jeremy asks as Alvina walks into the woods.
"No, you're worse. You want to talk to me, get to know me, see into my soul and screw and screw and screw until you're done with me." The woman snaps.
"Is that what you think?" Jeremy asked dishearteningly. Alvina's smile starts to drip off of her face especially when she finds Jeremy and the woman. She hides behind a tree and watches them closely.
"That's what I know" The girl snips. Alvina glares at the woman, angry with how close the two were. Eventually, the girl wonders off and Alvina's relieved when Jeremy stays where he's at.
"Friend of yours?" Alvina looks towards the direction of the voice. She sees Damon not far from her. She looks away from him and back towards Jeremy. She watches him stumble back to the party.
"I'm not talking until you hand over the Necture," She tells him before walking towards the party. Damon appears in front of her. She crosses her arms and raises her eyebrows.
"As promised," He said holding up the bag. She smirks and takes it from his hands. "Now, did you know those two? Cause it seemed like you did" He wiggles his eyebrows at her. She rolls her eyes.
"I never met the girl," She shrugs. "But stay away from the boy" She growls her eyes turning to her vibrant blue color. He raises his eyebrows but nods knowing she's serious. "I'll see you around, Dames," She said walking around him. He watches her curiously wondering who the boy was but didn't think too long on it as his head turns towards where the girl wondered off too. Damon smirked and sped after her.
Alvina sighs when she realizes she's lost, Jeremy. Her shoulders sag slightly and she goes towards where the drinks are being served. She grabs a solo cup and fills it. She sips on it and looks around.
"Lost?" Alvina spins around and grins seeing Jeremy. She tilts her head and he moves closer to her. "You're easily the most beautiful girl here, yet you're standing alone. Figured you don't know where you're friends are."
"Haven't been around long enough to make any" She shrugs watching him refill his drink. "Maybe you can help me out?"
"Nah, you don't wanna hang out with me. I don't have many friends" He tells her.
"Why don't you let me figure out who I want to hang around and who I don't, alright?" She winks at him. He grins slightly. "So, Jeremy Gilbert, why don't you show me what you do for fun around here" He grins and motions for her to follow him.
"There's not much to do around here," He tells her honestly. "I normally just hang out with a few people in the woods, there are some good spots out there"
"I've always loved the woods, always felt as if I had a connection with nature," She tells him. He smiles at her.
"Then I have the perfect spot for you," He says leading her into the woods.
"I saw you earlier," Alvina brought up. "On my way here, you were with someone, a girl... She seemed upset"
"Vicki," He tells her. "She's just a friend, she was having some... boy troubles," He said. She relaxes when he assures her the girl is just a friend.
"You're a good friend" She smiles at him. He grins at her and shrugs. "So, where are you taking me, Mr. Gilbert?" She asks tilting her head up to him. He stops and looks around, he starts to laugh.
"I have to tell you, this place looks a lot different in the dark" Alvina laughs and shakes her head.
"Why don't you give me a tour of the woods when you're sober and there's light out?" Alvina suggests grabbing his hand. His face lights up and he instantly intertwines their fingers.
"Why do I feel like this?" He asks stepping towards her. She steps back. He smirks playfully and continues this until her back is against a tree.
She wanted this. She wanted this badly, wanted him badly. But not like this. Not with him intoxicated and unable to think clearly. She wouldn't take advantage of him. She knew the bond would continue to grow and grow until the couldn't ignore it anymore, the alcohol just helped him give into it more than when he's sober.
"Why don't we go back to the party?" She whispers to him. He blinks as if trying to clear his mind before nodding and stepping back.
"I'm sorry, I don't-"
"You have nothing to apologize for," She said instantly. Her hand grips onto his when he tries to pull away. She steps towards him and kisses his cheek. He relaxes and smiles at her again. "Come on" She whispers nodding her head towards the direction everyone else is in.
"Ok" He nods and lets her lead him back to the party. She giggles as he stumbles around. The laughter is music to his ears and he finds himself laughing as well. "Oh, great" He mutters when they finally make it back to the party.
"What?" Alvina asks frowning her eyebrows. They were having a good time together, she wondered what changed his mood so quickly.
"It's my sister" He mutters. She follows his gaze and sees Elena with Stefan. She looked curious but angry. "You should get going or she might just yell at you too"
"I'm sure I can handle it," She said. He smiles at her and with a burst of courage, he kisses her cheek. She grins and blushes.
"I'll see you around?" He asks and she nods.
"You can count on it" He grins before stumbling off into the woods in hopes to escape his sister.
"Jeremy! Jeremy!" Elena shouted marching past Alvina. The two of them share a passing glance before Elena continues after her brother.
"Working on it, huh?" Alvina turns her head and sees Stefan standing there, his eyebrows raised. She smirks and shrugs. She walks closer to him and shows him her mark. Realization covers his face. "Congrats" He smiles at her as she covers it back up.
"Thanks," She tells him and looks towards the woods. "He's human so it'll be interesting" She mutters.
"I'm sure it'll work out" Stefan comforts her. She smiles at him.
"Of course it'll work out," She smirks. "We were meant to be after all"
"Somebody help!" Both of their heads snap to the side seeing Elena and Jeremy carrying a bloody Vicki Donovan.
"Vicki?! Vicki, what the hell?!" Matt, Vicki's brother, shouts racing towards her.
Alvina and Stefan look at each other knowing exactly who did this. Alvina grins slightly and shrugs not caring about the girl nor Damon's display of violence. She's been with Damon for decades, she's used to it before then she practically lived isolated and away from humans. She didn't care about the small town girl but what she did care about was the terrified look on Jeremy's face.
"Hey, she's going to be alright," Alvina said walking up to Jeremy. He turns to her with tears in his eyes and wet cheeks. She sighs softly. "Come here" She mutters opening her arms to him. He instantly falls into them. His arms hug her waist. One of her arms wraps around his shoulder while the other goes around his neck, her fingers combing through his hair comfortingly. "It's alright" She whispers to him. "She's going to be fine, I promise you" He just grips her tighter.
